*Excellent selection especially for the newer angler. **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it’s entire assortment looks to be tied well. Looking forward to getting them wet...*
i love adding a couple pieces of crystal flash at the head and tail of the griffiths Nats! just adds that little bit of extra flash and looks like antenna or legs =) Great video Jim!
Jim, this is a great fishing combo... I started fishing it last summer after watching your vids and it was a killer in Yellowstone NP..... I'll be tuning into this series for more fishing tips and flies. TL, DK...
Your GSS Emerger is an awesome Fly, I always have some in my box! And the Gnat, like you said, a great Fish catcher! Haven't had a chance to use them in tandem, but can't wait too. Truly awesome Flies Jim, Thanks! ~Dan
My GSS dubbing came in Tuesday and I couldn't wait to try it out I tied up a dozen of both and went to the river which is about 2 foot higher than normal and we caught several fish none of them were as big as the ones you show in your videos but none the less those flies really do work good.
Hi Chad, Thanks for the kind words and feedback. That GSS is some fantastic material. I see more and more guy's using it and proclaiming its catchability.
Great Job again Jim and like the new series. Yes they look like winners to me and I will get the material. What GSS colors do you suggest. Thanks again for sharing
I watched and tied both flies and have caught some wild brown trout in a small stream when they are chasing caddis emergers The trout don't stay in one place and rise like a mayfly hatch ,they cruise around in the slow pools and pick them off . The hardest part is the water is clear with little current so it's hard to not spook them and then put the fly far enough away that they don't see it hit the water but close enough that you can control the drag. Easiest time is when you can see 2 or3 fish cruising together. Dropping the fly in the right place often has each fish racing to get it before the others can. I caught my best fish there that way. PS according to the state the trout shouldn't be there the stream was never stocked with browns only brookies and that was 20 years ago. Maybe they went up there to spawn and decided to stay.
Hey Jim, have you had a chance to check out the new color of the GSS? I bought some yesterday and can't wait to get it. I don't have a camera though I am not so fond of an audience anyway. All the best to you, Sean
I haven't seen it yet but if it is true to form it will have chartruese and other colors just like the olive does. I hope it is really nice. This material seems to breed in the bag. The more I use the more I seem to have! I know it sounds crazy but I have had the first two bags for over a year now and they still look full. I bet a mixture of olive and chartruese could be deadly. I'll let you know what I think All the best, Sean
Great channel, Yours and Chris's are my top 2 from the 100's I'm subscribed to. Question do you ever substitute the peacock Herl for UV ice dubbing or anything else?
Jim, Thanks for all the work on your channel. This is a an older video. Are you still fishing the GSS emerger? Do you use the peacock GSS or Green GSS?
Question about your GSS do you cut it into leghths mine that I go is really long and boy is there a lot of it it looks great but was just wondering if you cut the long strips down some before you use them?
I don't cut it always do nothing but break it off. You are right about the amount it jusy shows that the other companies are being... shall we say greedy. Everything in modern fly tying is a by-product of another industry. With the exception of feathers and hair or fur. The rest is just how much can we profit from this. it may sound harsh but it is true. The late great Lefty Kreh once said 90% of the fly fishing Industy is bull****.
I like the Cortland tippet, it turns over nicely with no memory. As to the size tippet the proper way to determine that is to take the size of the hook and divide by three. The closest number would be the proper tippet size. If you have a #20 fly then divided by threeclosest number would be 7X. 3x7=21. A #14 would be 5X 3x5=15. #12 is 4x 3x4=12.
+Morgan Jones The only place to get it is JackGartside dot com make sure you get the Olive. It is worth the price of postage. You won't be disappointed.
Great channel, Yours and Chris's are my top 2 from the 100's I'm subscribed to. Question do you ever substitute the peacock Herl for UV ice dubbing or anything else?
I do use Gartside Secret Stuff which is close to ice dubbing. But yo ucan uae the ice dub in place of peacock herl, although you may find it a bit brite for some situations.
Cheers from Peter in Maine USA.I am glad I found your channel; great content with your instruction and a wonderful tone to your voice. Thank you!
Thanks very much

Jim, Thanks for all the work on your channel. This is a an older video. Are you still fishing the GSS emerger? Do you use the peacock GSS or Green GSS?
Yes I do! The color you want is Olive, I'll always be using the GSS Emerger it is also good with a beadhead on the bottom.
Question about your GSS do you cut it into leghths mine that I go is really long and boy is there a lot of it it looks great but was just wondering if you cut the long strips down some before you use them?

Like Oreos and milk. I was doing the same thing today.
great! 👌
Jim what color GSS are you using there if I have missed it I am sorry but would like to know
thanks
How do you keep a tippet from tangling twisting up on your dry fly
Using the right size tippet is the key. Size of fly divide by 3
Thanks, what type tippet material do you use with these?
What brand do you prefer?
I like the Cortland tippet, it turns over nicely with no memory. As to the size tippet the proper way to determine that is to take the size of the hook and divide by three.
