  • Being a salesman is the ultimate career. Especially when you get to deal with bosses like this one. (If you are in sales, or have ever been in sales, you will get this. If you've never been in sales, probably won't get it...and consider yourself very lucky.)

I am in corporate sales for a Forbes Top 100 company. Its a huge faceless publically traded American company.
This video really hits the nail on the head.
There is something wrong with corporate culture in North America if this is the norm.
I mean really, I thought I just worked for a porrly managed money hungry company, but seeing this video and reading these posts makes me realize there is a serious problem with how we run our companies and how our economy is managed.

this....is hilariously spot on. If you can believe it, in pharmaceutical sales, the level of ridiculousness is even more extreme than depicted in this video. The bit about the ipods, the starbucks gift cards and the gold stars is just classic.

You know what I love most? When you receive a $250 gift card to Best Buy for being sales person of the month only to find out that the gift card counts as taxable income. So not only are you stuck with money that's only useful in one place, but you get more taken off of your paycheck. That's why I went full time musician. Yes, it's been tough making ends meet, but at least I can run an honest business.

No bonus of any sort was discussed in it, but they were very "grateful for my above and beyond efforts". It hurts my soul that this comment is actually true.

Quotas are set unrealistically high. They think workers will strive harder to reach that unattainable goal rather than a realistic one. They think if someone hits quota they'll be satisfied and not try for more. What they don't understand is that by having unrealistic goals, it demoralizes the employees and they do less. Once they realize they can't reach quota, they just give up.
All bosses pretend like they excelled at the job that their underlings are doing, but this is rarely the case. The bosses are generally the brownnosers that couldn't cut it, so they were promoted up as a higher boss's pet.
