Personally I’m only against summons because I like to learn the bosses moveset, windows etc, the summon distracts him and even if I beat him I haven’t learned a thing. That being said you can play the game however you want you don’t have to play it at lvl.1 and no hit hit or something😂

@@user-ww1gk5ku1w Some bosses deserve mimic tear because the entire fight is such dogwater that you aren't missing much by doing it that way. Such lovely examples include Commander Gaius and the final boss of the dlc. My bullshit meter usually lets me know after like 10 deaths tops whether or not a fight is actual cancer. Fuck those two fights in particular.
Also that interview with Miyazaki where he says he uses every resource in his games because he couldn't beat them otherwise. He even said he uses his insider knowledge of the level and enemy design to help him out. If anything the devs probably use him as base level to know if they can make it harder or not. I can just imagine Miyazaki dying over and over to Bayle and the Promised Consort.
Toxic souls players be like: no you can’t use spells, summons, or ash of war even though the creators put them in the game for you to use them. It’s unfair and not Miyazaki’s vision.

the man put those in there for people that are struggling. Since people complain so much he had to do something instead of putting an easy mode, because he doesn’t want to. Summons is a perfect way to make it easy without spoiling the game for others that likes the way it is. No shame in it.

Not so much purists, I could care less about how you play the game but I don't like summoning because I like beating the bosses. I summoned the first time I beat Malenia and I felt zero accomplishment, so now I never summon.

Same dudes are the ones who make it almost impossible to get a friend into a souls game. Right out of the tutorial on DS3, you get end-game builds invading you and rarely see a friendly summon sign. "Why don't you just play offline", then they say I'm playing the game wrong.
Fromsoft: "We made our bosses harder so people will multiplayer and use summons and ashes." Fans: "😭😭😭 why are people playing with all the tools built into the game." Me: "Why are you like this?"

I went outside after I died, killed the knights and summoned me up 2 homies. And we killed Pontiff. I'm not bad, or a skill issue cuz' the rest of the game wasn't very notable, I just used what I had to get past a speed bump. Or in this case a speed wall. I don't know anything about Elden yet, very poor cannot afford it yet. Do not spoil please.

The fact these discussions even exist is such a testament to the genius game design of fromsoft. The gigantic range of difficulty available to the player simply through choices in game makes for such a wide range of experiences. There is genuinely a path for every type of player. Ranging from runs naked, no weapons with a dance pad... to farming max rune level, getting all the most op shit before fighting margit, using the boss shackles, using npc AND player summons, looking up all the cheese strats for every boss and respeccing to use the most meta strats vs every boss,.. And then a whole bunch of space in between

I have a friend who never played a souls game, and really loved how spectacular the magic in Elden Ring looked, so he bought the game and it's playing it, full mage, spells and summons, we always jokes to him naaaah you're playing easy mooode, but one day a guy came out and started trashing on him and insulting him for real, we all just jumped like, man you just can't go around insulting people like this for playing the game, let him do whatever he wants, before that point we thought it was a big joke the "real gamers" shit, but we quickly realised there's people that actually think like that man wtf

My biggest achievement in Elden Ring is beating Malenia on my FIRST ATTEMPT, I even got it on video and uploaded it to RUclips, but some people downplayed it because "you used a bleed build and the Mimic Tear" 🙃

I actually beat her 2nd try. I was killed by Waterfowl Dance about 40 times in Calid beforehand, at like lv10. So meeting Malenia at >lv150 with +25 weapons was a breeze.

Thank you for bringing this to everyone's attention. This actually happened to me. You bringing awareness to this topic makes me happy and I appreciate it. I had to play with no Arms. Use my teeth with my eyes gouged out. Every experience slightly differs though.
Thing is, everyone should play however they want and that's cool! But there is something special about learning a bosses patterns until you are a good at dodging, spacing, and killing them. Ashes, Summons, and Certain Spells and Weapon Arts distract from that, makes it unnecessary. However, that is only one way to approach the game. Nuking shit with well synergized/overpowered builds can be hella fun as well.

@@Phoenix-qv9hg Agree, personnaly i am from softwere veteran but during my first playthrough istill did used bleed build and summons :D (bleed build was accident, just wanted to make samurai build) on secong though i will go strength faith build and most likely no summons, but its so cool mechanic so i am not sure about that, its fun becuase you can make thematic builds with it.
Ya Elden ring is easy though, the older souls games are better cuz they don't got short cuts that hold ur hand like Elden ring.

Nah some people are just good at the game. Others need practice and others blame everything but, themselves.
If you need to set arbitrary rules and restrictions on what you can and can't use in order to make the game challenging, maybe it's just not that difficult in the first place lol. Most annoying thing about Souls fans is them centering their whole gaming identity around being good at Souls games as if it's some monumental accomplishment. Souls games are not and never were that difficult. They're just unforgiving. There's a big difference.
This made for a nice pallet cleanser after watching a guy bitch about how hard the DLC bosses were while simultaneously saying that you didn’t beat the game if you used summons.
I'm an old Morrowind vet. My favorite thing about that game, and now these games, is just how thoroughly you can break the balancing within the confines of the games.

Honestly I gotta be honest my first play through felt too easy for my own liking as I went from a fire katana flame knight build to a god slayers great sword build and ended with a Bolt of gransax build which let me clear bosses with relative ease like Malenia and Mohg. Malenia it took my 6 times because I was also trying to use other weapons before going Bolt of Gransax. As for mohg I actually messed the poor fellow up with the god slayers great sword he was killed in the first attempt. So now I’ve got a new run. Where I decided to get a little silly. The only weapon I can use this run I’ve decided is this dinky ass pickaxe I obtained from killing a miner. But apparently this pickaxe un-ironically fucks people up. I’m trying to use spirit ashes less in the fights but more so is I’m gonna avoid using the mimic tear spirit ash this run cause I found it to be too good for my liking. So I wanna try out the other spirit ashes. 1 pickaxe with multiple ways to use it. Yes I put holy slash on it to help against royal revenants. Anyway I’m having a fucking blast with this run.
Its funnier now cuz in a recent interview Miyazaki reveals he also struggles with his games especially Elden Ring so he uses every tools available in the game.

There is nothing wrong of using anything the game gives you, summons, bleed, spells do make the game easier, but at the end of the day, who cares? Just have fun. If you decide to not use it for the challenge, that's also completely fine, but please don't force people to do that too. - coming from a souls veteran who platinumed all the FromSoftware games available on PC.

It's an action rpg, problems (the enemies) can be solved by either an action solution (getting really good at dodging and understanding timings of when to attack and stuff) or an rpg solution (changing gear, using summons and/or various spells strategically, etc) For some reason some people get real mad when you take the rpg solution, but the game very clearly offers both as potential options.

It's kinda like when Bioshock was popular and people were just focusing on gun play, but salts were like super broken in comparison. If it's in the game, it's in the game. I'm gonna use that shit unless I personally hate the playstyle.
It’s even worse when they complain about a game being too hard but they refuse to use the buffs and items the game gives you (e. g. status effects, summons, etc)
I'll admit I'm guilty, but I only complained about bosses just doing too much damage at the endgame with 40+ vigor. Older games never could one shot you in the base game and even bloodborne only had one boss do that and that boss couldn't do it with every attack.

Well it affects me when people spam broken spells and ashes of war in pvp. A lot of the time I pretty much only lose duels when that happens. Also when invasions are always a 3 vs 1. As for pve people are ruining the game for themselves and ER gains a bad reputation for being unbalanced. I really hope they severely limit magic and summons in the future like in sekiro and kind of bloodborne. ER was a huge step back in that regard

I've come across a lot of strange gamer cliques in my time, but FromSoftware "purists" climbed to the top of the heap so fast its hilarious.
And the funny thing is, most of the people who act like that seem to have jumped onto the game later because they heard it was hard and that’s the only appeal they see to it, meanwhile plenty of people who started with DS1 because they just though it looked cool will generally tell you play in whatever way is most fun to you.

There’s generally two types of fans of these games: the ones playing it entirely for the pride of being a god gamer, and the ones enjoying how well-designed the levels, bosses, worlds, and lore are. The latter tend to have a lot more fun, while the former tend to gatekeep and do SL1 no weapon no fun playthroughs where they grind for 40 hours to beat a boss.
The latter approach would be fine if they didn’t gatekeep like crazy. The worst thing is how if you complain about any mechanic that you deem to be unfair, they WILL always defend it by saying “get good.”
I personally love to 1 v 1 bosses without summons and have since the early games, but play the game in whichever way is fun for you. Part of appeal of the formula is all the gameplay variety that it offers.

I like the fact there's no easy difficulty setting though, it means whoever gets through actually worked really hard to win. Easy modes might make the game accessible, but a necessary challenge always makes it rewarding to win rather than masochistic. Like "Why am I playing on hard mode, I should just switch to easy mode" haunting your mind.
Keyword: Necessary, throwing away op stuff is pointless.
I'd rather not have busted as sh spells and summons if it means the late game bosses don't move like Sekiro bosses.
Old From Software players know creating the cheesiest of builds is tradition. Creating over powered builds that one shot bosses is what some strive for.
I still remember a Dark Souls video where this guy beat one of the games under the special condition that he must 1-shot every boss, using every single mechanic and glitch possible to get what he needs to do it.
Wrong. Old Fromsoft fans know what challenge runs are and that they are the bread and butter of from games. Real men won by their own skill we didnt have filthy 1 shot mages doing kamehamehas at bosses. If we had something close we had chad pvp invaders ready to slap them with vow of silence real fast.

I grew up on souls games and I will never understand those who criticize others for playing the game in the way they find most enjoyable. Like yeah these are difficult games which mean they can be very frustrating to play. That’s why the devs put in tools too make the game less frustrating for those who don’t want that kinda difficulty

It's sad that discourse around Elden Ring short-comings has devolved into "toxic From players" vs "people how just want to have fun". Really, anybody can play the game however they like, but the problem is that Elden Ring make it very convenient to optimize out of the game, what really was the essence of previous games. You can "beat the boss" by summoning mimic, but you also effectively skipping entire processes of learning bosses moves and engaging with their mechanics, which was the best part of previous games.
This is also covers the problem of end game being overly difficult to the point of being unfair. Of course you can slip through it, by using any means necessary, but really, what is really the point?
The funniest part is that many of the sweaties cant actually play the way they tell you to. Ive beaten the game without leveling using only the short spear with quickstep. Ive also powerleveled to 200 and pvped. Ive played soulsborn games since evergrace back in 2000, and there is only one way to play.... and its to just play the game.

Literally no right or wrong way to play a game, it’s all about having fun. My brother was appalled that I cheese and use summons and prefer to just explore the map and get deep into the lore instead of PVP and being “good” at the game. But hey, I like the way I play it. there’s so much artistry and depth put into these games, what’s wrong with wanting to really appreciate it and take your time? I’d rather have fun and be shitty at the game than be miserable trying to prove myself to others.
Honestly, i think the worst part is they try to force this onto people on their first playthrough, as someone whos first souls game was elden ring ( i recently beat sekiro as my second) what i did was play blind and use whatever i found fun on my first playthrough, but now im replaying the game with my own made challange of no op weapon and no summon

I didnt watch the video but the title of it is what made me relax my Elden Ring gameplay to allow myself to use summons, rot, and other, easier ways to play the game.

Because making the playthrough as difficult as possible is the main appeal of the game for the FS fanbase. Ask any fan to explain why they think the game is great. Most, if not all of their points will circle back to “The game is hard, everyone can’t beat it.”
