Sadly, many people are armchair experts… Like me, they probably live in the north, mowing cool season grasses, and know nothing about warm season grasses. No matter how many times I’ve heard you say, this is the way I do it, the armchair experts always asking; Johnny, why don’t you weed eat first, why electric, why do you cut so low… I’ve heard you say many times, I cut at this height because that’s what the customer wants. I think your tenure in the industry speaks for itself. You’ve got to be doing something right! You’re a good man Johnny! Even though I live in a different area of the country I’ve learned a lot from you! Keep it up and thank you!

Great video and thanks for your time!!! It wasn't until I started watching your vids that I realized that I was mowing some of my properties way too high, I was nervous about dropping that deck down but the outcome left me and my clients with huge smiles!!!💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿💚💚💚

Good to see you using your gas mowers. People that’s not in the south like us don’t understand everybody like there grass low. If we cut 4 or 5 inches people would think we didn’t even mow. Good work Johnny

Depends on the grass you can hit bermuda and centipede at 1.5" no problem, but you need to mow tall fescue at no less than 4"

I personally mow most yards at 1.75 and generally never more than 2.25 but around here its either bermuda or centipede and 1 yard that is zoysia that get mowed between 2.25 and 2.75. depends on how hot it is.

I don't like mowing of the grass at a low setting but it is the type of grass cutting you are doing scalping the grass can cause it to not keep the water drying out

No lower than 2.50 inches for me Mr. Johnny. We already frustrated with all the homes being on clay base foundations which makes the root penetration difficult in Savannah/Pooler areas. So we have to let the grass get some height to shaded the roots man.

Great video, I am in Indiana cutting cool season lawns. I have a customer who request for me to cut her lawn lower than the recommended 3 inches for cool Season grass. I don’t want to go lower than 2.75 but she still want it lower. I think 2.5 will be the lowest I'll go, I’ve already told her that it is harmful to her lawn to go any lower. Do you have any suggestions?

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare

    • @Bladesofgrasslawncare

I've been doing this for 13 years and had zero request to stripe a lawn. Striping is not a thing in my area, you don't see it and no one does it or try to because this type of grass does not hold strips.

Here in eastern North Carolina most residential lawns look good at 2.5 inches. It stimulates root growth and helps the grass to survive stress during dry spells. Fortunately we have been getting some rain in the past week or so.

Johnnie me and my co worker (bosses brother) has been in the landscaping world for about 6 years while I've been in it for about 3 years now and we are mowing in piping-hot Tampa Fl.
We have been discussing about using neck fans to keep ourselves cool this summer as the previous years were just a brutal and we're trying to relieve ourselves of the scorching temperatures this time around!
Do you have any thoughts on neck fans or cooling devices while mowing or servicing a yard?
Do you think they are silly or do you think they are very helpful?
