I can get behind that. Something like "30min Motherboard Ultrasonic Clean [ASMR]" with a really dirty board where you can see the dirt floating away every now and then.
I had Face ID issues with my XS 5 months after buying it brand new, took it to the Apple store thinking my manufacturer warranty would get them to help me. They said it was water damage and charged me $700 to fix it. I took it to my local Best Buy and they said the indicators were white and replaced my phone for free...thanks Apple
pretty much like samsung does too on phones they'r buyers swear it newer saw water not even near a glass, so not blaming x or y. but I'm curious how all this water damage occurs, maybe it took it on the ship from taiwan/china? maybe normal vapour while kept in the pocket?
Does Apple do *any* component level repairs? It sounds like they just swap boards with totally new ones, and make sure their supply chain (and schematics) are locked down enough to prevent others from making component level repairs. Why? Good fix Louis... I did the same to a washing machine board that got wet over time and started forming "dendrites" of corrosion on the high-power half of the board. I cleaned it with 99% isopropanol, let it dry and worked a charm!
Just found your channel...it's really awesome how you explain things and show real repairs of your customers. I'm able to follow your explanations even though I'm not English and I also appreciate your jokes lol. Nice equipment btw. Keep up the good work and informative videos
Hi my 2020 Macbook air had something to drink, but after a I cleaned it and put it back together everything works except the keyboard back-light any ideas 💡 🙃. thanks
Yesterday my dad sent his iPhone X not activating after reset to an authorised Apple store quoting that it will cost 1k as it’s an hardware issue but I fix the iPhone with a firmware update and some software tools
WOW Apple has gone off the flipping deepend now $6,000 for a Mac Pro and upwards to $53,000 Yeah i know there is some brain dead idiot out there going MUST HAVE TAKE MY MONEY.. gotta love Apples Greed and brainwashing
Sort of. The zener IS a path to ground, just one that only conducts when the voltage across it reaches a particular level. At that point current flows through it and the current flow is what turns the transistor on or off. I think the corrosion shorted the zener to ground so the transistor was getting current all the time. Why that kept the system from powering up I don't know... I have to rewind the video and look at the schematic to figure that out.
Yeah, but that's an important point is that the zener will try to do its best to keep the voltage constant assuming minimal required current is reached. I.e. that particular gate doesn't really ever see ground. What the gate sees, however, is the voltage on C7012 which is propped up by the zener to 6.8V while conducting in reverse.
@@Bassotronics He may have known but didn't want to over complicate things by then having to explain the nuances between a regular diode and a zener diode.
hi, i have macbook air 2017 and i spilled water by mistake, it turns on fine however no display. Works perfectly fine with external monitor. i have tested my screen with different macbook air , screen works fine. Is there any software diagnostic tool i can run to know what is the problem ?
My MacBook Air 13 inch was water damaged and I can’t afford to go get it fixed by Apple or Geeksquad at Best Buy. Any recommendations on where to get it fixed?
All the way from the UK. Love the videos and information you give, you're one of a kind and sharing your knowledge to others to learn is the best medicine. Big fan.. just had to comment because of the fact apple tried to tip that person off. Unbelievable.....
i came to this video thinking differently, like air water is a new kind of water to damage your computer, but then I realized it's CALLEd a macbook air.

Dud, i had some light water damage to my mac book air and it wasn't charging, I was super bumbed out. but I decided to look for an answer and I came across this video. I opened up the computer and looked got corrosion. Once removed, it began charging. Apple charged me more than the computer is worth to fix. Thanks brother!!!
I wonder why Apple don't just apply conformal coating to their boards; It wouldn't cost much, and their premium priced products would have corrosion resistance. Also, the conformal coating would make repairs even more difficult.🤔
Ok so this may be a dumb question so sorry ahead of time. What are some of the brands or models of computers/laptops/phones that you stand by as a product? Asking as someone who just stumbled upon your channel today and is now cringing at not only my iPhone but my microsoft surface as well.
I have the exact same issue , laptop was standing on one end ; don't recall which in a room that took on water from a fire and it won't show green or amber on the magsafe connector. Worked perfectly fine before fire. Not seeing that corrosion but will reinspect. Wish I had my oscilloscope . I did spray with circuit cleaner to no success. Great video
Louis that was a fantastic repair no swearing, slow and deliberate comments that will appeal to all your followers with the exception of Apple who should be ashamed of themselves.

@7:40 that's a Zener and it's not quite a "path to ground", it's a voltage regulator.
@ *Arcadiy Ivanov*

Hey Louis !
Did you ever repair a MacBook air being oil cooled ?
Maybe not because the oil can not corrod the components. ;)
Waiting for work at a temp agency and watching this was good. Ty for the good demeanor.
if it is possible without copyright, then the Bob Ross intro needs to be used!
How the hell is Musk going to get to Mars if a little bit of corrosion stops shit turning on ? I know I am old , but am I getting paranoid ?

I don't think Apple quite understands, you may need to explain it to them again. Perhaps use crayon.
I would suggest that high humidity droplets from a warm room & human breath gathers on the circuit board, rather than something spilled.
Air Water damage? What is this? Final Fantasy 9?
ever heard about condensation?
Not knowing that much, how do you get the flux back off the board? I think of flux as highly corrosive, so that's why I ask.

Under 15 minutes ! Why?.... Say it isn't so..... LoL...... Very nice....
Maybe you should explain reason for that p-channel MOSFET. It is pretty common technique for a reverse voltage protection with very low voltage drop.
