I think censorship today is more prominent than any time in world history. It's kind of sad that people don't realize that. However, I think the vast majority of people can see what's going on.
It's being weaponized by social media users to target people with right wing beliefs. And it's illegal. And we need to utilized United States Code Section 1983 to sue the site moderators. Furthermore, the government needs to re-write seciton 230 and take away protection from site owners who knowingly push an agenda through their terms of service.

Yeah, here there is a Judge from Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, that is basically censoring people, saying that is for "democracy protection". He is banning social media of journalists, influencers and even congressperson that say anything that he considers wrong. I got a hate speech warning on facebook because my wife posted something about dinner ideas. I said "Crazy Mexican" which is an actual name of a Mexican restaurant in my area!! Certain words can get you in trouble on social media whether you mean it in bad way or not.

Unfortunately the powers that be have degraded society, right to the point that a whole lot of people are offended by absolutely anything and everything. Freedom of speech should be just that, you may not agree with people on certain subjects but no one should be virtually castrated for words alone. The content of your character is and always has been what people should be judged upon!
The first thing we need to understand is that the First Amendment Right of Free speech does NOT apply in the private sector. In other words the Government can't infringe on your right to free speech but private citizens or businesses (like RUclips, Twitter, etc) can. Try telling your boss he sucks and then try to invoke your 1st Amendment right of free speech and see how that works out for you. Simply put we have no right of free speech on YT, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

The thing about it is the sheep love the shepherd and hate the butcher because in all appearance to the sheep the shepherd loves the sheep, feeding them, caring for them, housing them and the butcher only kills them. I don't understand the laws involved or what can actually be done about it. I believe the only ramification is the courts telling the government to stop it. I don't think government officials will actually be held to any kind of legal ramifications for doing it. However, they should. We will have to wait and see what happens. Glad I liked this video before it gets taken down. I fired both parties in 2004 when Bush and Kerry were the absolute best they could bring to the table. I'm fiercely unaffiliated with any party cause they all failed. I strongly believe, as you do, that free speech must be protected, even if I disagree with what is said. I have friends who are "proud" to have chosen either side, but I don't require my friends to agree with me.
I got bullied in school about 30 years ago and nowadays kids get bullied online and i just don't get it. I couldn't block my bullies but if someone online talks shit i can easily block that person.
I got bullied and was a foot taller and usually stronger and heavier than my bullies. Weird I know. It was all about perceived power. Once I realized I always won the fight it stopped. Granted I had to get in trouble a lot, but it worked. People today have a different mindset than we do. They perceive others have more power than they really do and that is why it happens. If they block the bully then maybe the bully will find them, or swat them. The participation trophies definitely caused that.

The social media censorship isn't about what you can or can't say. It's about WHERE you are saying it. As long as social media companies are not owned by the government, your 1st Amendment rights do not apply. Google/Facebook/X/whatever have the full authority to block whatever they see fit, in order to maximize their profit.
Private companies are considered state actors when they are acting in accordance with state directives. The government cannot use social media companies as third parties and claim their private companies. Because technically their government contractors at that point. The government cannot collude with private companies in order to perform actions they cannot perform themselves. This has nothing to do with social media companies choosing to censor some people and not others. This is about the government colluding with social media companies to censor people they want silenced.

RUclips often auto-deletes them on the spot without informing anyone - if video creators set YT to flag potential spam for review, it ignores the setting and deletes it without telling them. One thing pertaining to our freedom I think also needs to be clarified is our adversarial justice system: Innocent until proven guilty. I think the issue is AI is unable to differentiate between "Indiana Jones fighting NAZIs" and a call to action for NAZIs which isn't just immoral but also illegal if it is a violent call to action. The other issue for companies is advertising is targeted. Does say an alcohol company want to target advertising next to a post that talks about how the Irish lets say enjoying alcohol too much and make a good portion of their customers angry? And I read the Twitter documents and they seemed to me to be a big nothing burger. Much of the request got overridden because the Twitter ethics board decided it should not be repressed. Of course since the whole twitter ethics board got fired I guess they won't be there to worry about ethics. So now Twitter is free to suppress anything that Musk wants suppressed and I am sure not what the other side wants suppressed. According to Musk 50% of the advertisers left Twitter and I doubt the reason is they are too woke as he claims. More like they didn't want their advertising associated with negative things. As sucky as the adpocalypse here on youtube was lets be honest it was because of a NY Times article that was critical of some companies ads being on racist videos. If you live by advertisers you die by advertisers and I can't blame RUclips or anyone for wanting to protect their own interests. I disagree. I think the Twitter files uncovers the worst scandal this country has ever had. I think we're just so used to it happening that we're not shocked by it. All it was was confirmation for everything we already knew was taking place. In regards to advertisers on Twitter, many of them have already returned. It was mostly fueled by a few loud voices using fear mongering to try to get advertisers to leave the platform. I do believe that social media companies are motivated by power. They want to censor people they disagree with because they think they can get away with it. View from europe we always see the US freedom of speech and expression as a very limited right blocked by corporation and limited by "religious value". I'm from Poland, my goverment is now creating the law to control all electronic communication by just forcing internet providers and social media companies to give all communication data to goverment agencies... Nobody is protesting against this... I'm so afraid of my future.

That's the part that gets me. Who is on the side of the government silencing them? That doesn't even make sense. However, it's probably because the government is currently silencing things they disagree with. I got a hate speech warning on facebook because my wife posted something about dinner ideas. I said "Crazy Mexican" which is an actual name of a Mexican restaurant in my area!! Certain words can get you in trouble on social media whether you mean it in bad way or not.
Yeap, I got banned for hate speech on Facebook once for posting a picture of a gallon of milk. It's ridiculous.

Honestly yeah, I agree. Things back in the day were different and I've noticed it in more areas than just social media. My opinion is people have become way too sensitive over time (or a least that's what the echo chamber effect has created).
You might have a very valid point there. I never considered the effect that echo Chambers would have on someone's sensibilities. But yeah, if people aren't used to defending their position then I could see where censorship would be important to them.

The first thing we need to understand is that the First Amendment Right of Free speech does NOT apply in the private sector. In other words the Government can't infringe on your right to free speech but private citizens or businesses (like RUclips, Twitter, etc) can. Try telling your boss he sucks and then try to invoke your 1st Amendment right of free speech and see how that works out for you. Simply put we have no right of free speech on YT, Twitter, Instagram, etc.
The government colluding with private businesses is the government censoring free speech.

The thing about it is the sheep love the shepherd and hate the butcher because in all appearance to the sheep the shepherd loves the sheep, feeding them, caring for them, housing them and the butcher only kills them. I don't understand the laws involved or what can actually be done about it. I believe the only ramification is the courts telling the government to stop it. I don't think government officials will actually be held to any kind of legal ramifications for doing it. However, they should. We will have to wait and see what happens. Glad I liked this video before it gets taken down. I fired both parties in 2004 when Bush and Kerry were the absolute best they could bring to the table. I'm fiercely unaffiliated with any party cause they all failed. I strongly believe, as you do, that free speech must be protected, even if I disagree with what is said. I have friends who are "proud" to have chosen either side, but I don't require my friends to agree with me.

I got bullied and was a foot taller and usually stronger and heavier than my bullies. Weird I know. It was all about perceived power. Once I realized I always won the fight it stopped. Granted I had to get in trouble a lot, but it worked. People today have a different mindset than we do. They perceive others have more power than they really do and that is why it happens. If they block the bully then maybe the bully will find them, or swat them. The participation trophies definitely caused that.

I fought back once and got expelled and had to go to a different school. Pretty fucked up but I turned me into the man I am today so I'm kind of thankful.

The social media censorship isn't about what you can or can't say. It's about WHERE you are saying it. As long as social media companies are not owned by the government, your 1st Amendment rights do not apply. Google/Facebook/X/whatever have the full authority to block whatever they see fit, in order to maximize their profit.
Private companies are considered state actors when they are acting in accordance with state directives. The government cannot use social media companies as third parties and claim their private companies. Because technically their government contractors at that point. The government cannot collude with private companies in order to perform actions they cannot perform themselves.
This has nothing to do with social media companies choosing to censor some people and not others. This is about the government colluding with social media companies to censor people they want silenced.

But I also think that, in addition to this, private companies are indeed contributing to the censorship problem. For example, it's getting harder to link to sources that support our points of view in a discussion, becuase social media algorithms tend to demote or delete posts that contain links. RUclips often auto-deletes them on the spot without informing anyone - if video creators set YT to flag potential spam for review, it ignores the setting and deletes it without telling them. It's argued that this is necessary to stop spam, but really, it's to censor content that could erode big tech's profits (by taking users to other sites, thus reducing engagement metrics), even if it's useful and relevant.

One thing pertaining to our freedom I think also needs to be clarified is our adversarial justice system: Innocent until proven guilty. It's nearly impossible to prove a negative, therefor our system requires factual evidence be presented to bring something to trial. Without that protection, anyone could make false accusations and force the accused to prove their innocence. This is how the Colonies were governed under British rule and much of why our Constitution, and Nation, are framed the way they are today.
I think the issue is AI is unable to differentiate between "Indiana Jones fighting NAZIs" and a call to action for NAZIs which isn't just immoral but also illegal if it is a violent call to action. The other issue for companies is advertising is targeted. Does say an alcohol company want to target advertising next to a post that talks about how the Irish lets say enjoying alcohol too much and make a good portion of their customers angry? And I read the Twitter documents and they seemed to me to be a big nothing burger. Much of the request got overridden because the Twitter ethics board decided it should not be repressed. Of course since the whole twitter ethics board got fired I guess they won't be there to worry about ethics. So now Twitter is free to suppress anything that Musk wants suppressed and I am sure not what the other side wants suppressed. According to Musk 50% of the advertisers left Twitter and I doubt the reason is they are too woke as he claims. More like they didn't want their advertising associated with negative things. As sucky as the adpocalypse here on youtube was lets be honest it was because of a NY Times article that was critical of some companies ads being on racist videos. If you live by advertisers you die by advertisers and I can't blame RUclips or anyone for wanting to protect their own interests. I think it is very short sighted to put the blame on these companies wanting to censor these people. I think RUclips doesn't give a rats ass as long as it brings in views and ad revenue. They would allow you to live stream KKK meetings if it increased revenue.
I disagree. I think the Twitter files uncovers the worst scandal this country has ever had. I think we're just so used to it happening that we're not shocked by it. All it was was confirmation for everything we already knew was taking place.
In regards to advertisers on Twitter, many of them have already returned. It was mostly fueled by a few loud voices using fear mongering to try to get advertisers to leave the platform.
I do believe that social media companies are motivated by power. They want to censor people they disagree with because they think they can get away with it. Just reading the comments from Twitter employees in the Twitter files shows that they definitely had a God complex. They were literally banning people for jokes at the governments request.

View from europe we always see the US freedom of speech and expression as a very limited right blocked by corporation and limited by "religious value". For example many paint and art has been blocked on facebook becaus eof nipple, in art and statue in Europe it is very common to see them and have naked statue, nothing sexual at all but block by the "politicaly corectness US version".
You can even find role playing game not translated because of the lack or freedom rights in US. especially the Dark eye adult extension.
