We put disk brakes on as soon as we bought our fifth wheel. We used Performance Brake. We went to one of their install sites, this one in Oklahoma.they installed in one day at the trailer site.put on the brakes and changed out the lugs to a larger size on the wheels. Big difference in stopping power.we feel much more safe. They did a great job.
I have found a very interesting correlation between watching your vlogs and spending money, especially when it comes to updating our Solitude. Hydraulic Disc Brakes, another must-have. Thanks, Mark!!!
I’m from Cochrane AB, I worked in Medicine Hat AB for two years. Three and a half years ago I moved to San Diego to get married. Through that process I had a trailer that ended up getting left behind. After it being in storage for nearly four years I have finally retrieved it and while it’s a little worse for wear I am so excited to get back to using it. I’ve been following your channel for awhile and it’s really the reason I never gave up on getting back to RVing.
True story on the sports! We stayed 3 days in the worlds of fun park for a swim meet! My wife said it had the friendliest staff of any park we have stayed at!
Definitely a worthwhile upgrade! I like the fact that Tricia let you video her in the bathroom getting ready. Shows that you guys are very real people. Liked you guys before, now I really do! Also, really like that we can watch you keep the camping going all year while we up north sit with our rigs in storage. Hope to meet you someday when you are back in Michigan. We have a new Grand Design Reflection waiting to get going in the spring!
Laughter is good, and I couldn't help but laugh and laugh and laugh when you put the drill on the magnet holder in the bathroom cabinet. That was soooo fun. Your a good hubby for being willing to take it all down and move it for Trish. My hubby was like that, course it may have taken him a few days to get back to it; but it's the thought that counts. haha
I also like the oil filled hubs. I converted my last two trailers to oil. I already have the Dexter disc brakes so all I needed to do was to clean out the hubs and bearings of grease and install clear dust caps. The caps have a circular line that indicates the fill level. If you look closely you can see the line in the video. I know some folks fill to the bottom of the fill hole but that risks a leak due to a high oil level. In this video at 4:22 the hub clearly appears over-filled. The level may go down a bit as the oil settles into the bearings but you may want to check the levels after the trailer sits for a few hours. Love your videos by the way.
Actually watched the etrailer video before this. Figured I'd click on this video just to give you a thumbs up credit. 👍But decided to watch the whole video. So glad I did. Always great watching you guys. Such an awesome couple!
We have been touting the luxury of our Dutch Star for 2 -1/2 years. It is the perfect residence...or 2nd residence if you live in Paradise the rest of the year.
Another awesome adventure. Trish I hope your Mom is recovering well from her medical procedure. I like the new upgrade to the braking system on your 5th wheel. Thanks for sharing Mark and Trish. Safe travels KYD.
So nice to watch you back up as a TEAM. After 2 days of straight travel, my wife forgot I know how to back up and just yelled at lung pitch non stop as we backed into our spot, we were "a show" I'm sure. we probably should have taken a break after two days of driving before trying to set up our campsite, lesson learned...
Made the Kodiak conversion on my Toy Hauler last year. I tow with a half ton and what a difference in stopping distance these made. Best money I’ve spent.
The break stuff was really cool to watch, I've only seen the old style breaks so that is why it was so neat to watch. Love seeing the inside of the other motor home, those bunks from the couch was really cool. So fun watching all the fun and not so fun stuff that happens on this channel. You guys rock! Hugs, Brenda
People are ALWAYS so impatient on the pickup ramp at lambert. I was born and raised around the corner from that airport and we always had airport pickup/drop off duty for friends and family. It made me chuckle at my hometown that folks are still so pushy about that. Somethings never change lol.
I always look forward to your videos on Sundays, I live in Surprise Arizona so seeing fellow Arizonan travel the country makes me happy and smile, your family always brightens my day every Sunday! Thanks 😊
Love watching your channel. Watching made me smile and take my mind off of missing our sweet boarder collie Maggie for a few minutes. She was almost 14 and suddenly collapsed on friday and passed away. My heart is broken!
We use our RV to follow grandsons sports. Went to Myrtle Beach this last summer, for baseball. Then wore your KYD shirts to Bar Harbor, Maine. Thanks for sharing brake info, even though we own a Class A RV. Loved the tour of neighbor RV.
Love the tip about checking the break away switch. Did it when I first bought the trailer 5 years ago. Guess I'm a little delinquent with not doing it at the start of each season. Will be pulling the drums for break inspection and bearing packing this spring, will be adding check break away switch to the list. Only problem with watching these videos is my to do list and wants keep growing. 😃

Newmar Dutch Star is the number one selling class a coach for Newmar. Prayers for Trisha's mother and for a speedy recovery. Keep the rubber on the road. God bless you and your family.
You did the best upgrade with the disc brake conversion kit. I did mine myself. Wow, the stopping power is fantastic. This should be done from the factory. TST 507 tire pressure monitoring system is a must too. Happy Camping
I am so glad you introduced both Missy and Dean. Thanks to them for all they do for us all. I made Duane rewind it so he could find out and see who they were!! Duane and Deana Floro
I have the Kodiak electric over hydraulic system on my 15K trailer. I installed it when I swapped the trailer axles. It's excellent. The trailer stops the truck. No issues in 10 years and 30,000 miles of mountain towing. These brakes should be standard on all trailer over 8K or so. These brakes once stopped me from rear ending a car in city traffic.
Happy Belated Birthday Marc! Trish, I hope surgery went well for your family member, and wish them a speedy recovery! That caprese salad looked to die for.....so did the steaks! Having the new brakes installed on your big rig is a good thing. You'll see a difference!!
The disk brakes conversion is a great informative video. I have been thinking about it for a really long time. I am going to contact E trailer and see if I can get the parts to swap my drum brakes over. Keep livin the dream!!! Thank you!

So, think getting rid of suspension shackles would be good. Maybe better than disk breaks. Breaking with independent suspension keep all 6 trailer wheels in better contact with pavement ( regardless whether drum brakes or disc brakes).
