    Mountain biking means a lot of different things to people- but to me, this ride encompasses what the sport truly is, at its most raw element. Simply put- big rides in big mountains on big bikes! I first read about this ride in an issue of Freehub Magazine. Since then, I’ve wanted to ride it- but the 6k vertical stat had me a little concerned. After a full 6 hours on the trail, I can confirm that despite the big vert, the ride isn’t crazy difficult.
    This is the type of riding I hope to do more as the year finishes out- see the full playlist here: • Backcountry Bangers

    Jumps, drops, berms, and wooden features are all really awesome, and the bmxer in me still loves them. But this kind of riding is what mountain biking is all about to me, and what I love most about it.

    This was on my PNW tour list we did last summer, cut it out at the last minute since we couldn't figure out a way to hook it into the road trip without a massive detour. I regret that decision immensely after this video, this is the kind of ride that "make" mountain biking for me. Sick video, Jeff!

    Good Lord! Beautiful country presented with by a wide eyed and unsuspicous, aw shucks demeanor not only sets the setting, it makes much of your over-all approach to not just downhill but your entire riding skillset/technique seem approachable. At 61 I've only gotten into mtbr in the last year or so having spent decades hunched on the drops, in Pat Benatar shorts and dancing shoes, mindful of traffic and any pebble that might find its way beneath my sew-ups. Wholenutherworld now and as passionate about learning and riding as I've ever been. Due in no small part to you and your efforts to share the experience. I just wanted wanted to say thanks.

    I celebrated both my 37th and 38th birthdays by doing this ride with friends a number of years back now. It will always be one of the greats in WA state. Like you, I just can't get enough of the views at the top. I could sit there and just gape for hours on a nice day. Really enjoyed this video since I have only a handful of pictures from my two trips on this epic. Very fun to re-live it with you via this video. Looks exactly the same!

    I love how you made the 7 mile climb to Cooney Lake look like it was downhill. I missed going to the Methow to visit family this year. Thanks for this and the Sun Mountain show. If you're still in the Methow - Lightning creek to Starvation Mountain and down Blue Buck trail is another backcountry loop to explore.

    So glad to see a high quality video of Angel's Staircase. It's on my bucket list but I don't have the endurance yet. A short but fun sub-alpine ride is Alpine Baldy but save that for late June, early July next year when the flowers are blooming. A longer one if you don't already have a video of it is Ape Canyon -> Plains of Abraham -> Smith Creek on Mt St Helens.

    • @brendan3863
      @brendan3863 3 года назад

      I'll add that you might prefer returning on Ape Canyon over Smith Creek. Ape is flowy and fun vs Smith which is loose and technical.

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  3 года назад +1

      E bikes are not allowed on a key section of this trail- they can do parts of it, but not the whole loop. Once ebikes are legal in more places I might ride them again, for now I got bored of my ebikes and sent them all back. A big part of that is because they aren't allowed on most trails here, but another part is that the 50 lb bikes aren't nearly as fun on all the jumpy flow trails we have in town here.

I'm going between Hill City and Keystone and Climbing these Mountains, and going down Any Trail I find, Well I did just that, I was on a Mission and Didin't care if I got hurt, Well i made it down No problems at a high rated speed, My buddy on the other hand was going to crash and almost went off a cliff but grabbed a tree and ripped his muscles and a tendon in his arm cause he grabbed a tree, I also beat a semi- pro rider to the bottom and took him 3 minutes longer than me lol, I guess when your heart is Broken and your mind is in a bad place, you can pull off some fearless shit lol
