I agree, CCE on Saturn is awesome even if its not faithful to the orignal Arcade, and honestly fun gameplay and decent graphics are more important than accuracy, look at the first Daytona port on the Saturn for proof. The arcade version of this game is the only one I've played first time i played it was a Bill Bob's in Ft. Worth Texas. Now i play the PS3 version when i want a retro racing game kick. Great soundtrack too.
The USA version (IDK about PAL, but definitively not on the Japanese version) of Daytona USA 2001/DC haves the option to adjust the sensitivity, and with that the controls can really get improved.
Wonderful video. Daytona USA brings back a lot of great memories. Waiting in line to play at the local arcade was exciting in itself. When I think of great Sega titles, this is one of the first games that comes to mind. Roooooooooooooolling Staaaaaaaaaaaart!
I was lucky enough to play the big 8 player simulated version that had you sitting in life size car cabins. They would tilt and turn as you raced around the track and shook like mad if you crashed :)
The now-defunct local arcade that I used to play at in San Francisco (Fun Center) had those AFAIR, but I only remember them having 4 hooked up. The lines were so long that you could be waiting well over an hour for a chance to plunk down $1+. I only got a chance to play a few times. Daytona USA was the first game that actually gave Street Fighter 2/CE/TE a run for its quarters at that arcade. It was quite a scene to take in, as you had games like T2: The Arcade Game at the front to catch people's attention, then rows of fighting games, and an opposite row of Daytona USA. The second room had all the "other" games that weren't as profitable, but were kept because the arcade actually owned those. If I were ever to come into a large amount of money, a few of those units would likely be on the list. :-)
Someinterweb guy Oh yes, I remember the heydays of arcades well. To be fair there are still quite a few good real gamer arcades around here but I don't visit them as much as I should. That arcade you talked about sounds like a true classic.
I really don't know why sega didn't make a port of Daytona 2 even though the dreamcast was surely powerful enough to bring Daytona 2 to the living room
As far as know, 8 player linked system arcade consists of 8 different colors of hornet. Player 1 (Red), Player 2 (Blue), Player 3 (Yellow), Player 4 (Green), Player 5 (Black), Player 6 (Pink), Player 7 (Light Blue), & Player 8 (Orange).
The Japanese Circuit Edition but the best version to play is the original release. The best version of Daytona USA out of all versions is the 360 version.
The 360 version looks very nice. I downloaded the trial version and wasn't that impressed with it (not bad - just though it was OK) but maybe I'll give it another go..... Using the steering wheel with the Dreamcast version gives you great control - makes me feel like they designed it that way. If you are stuck with the default pad you can still improve things by turning the sensitivity way down in the options.
Exactly- the DC version needs to be played with a wheel as they originally wanted us to. Shame that most people don’t and assume the controls are too sensitive. Even though I played with a pad for years and got used to the controls even able to pull off drifts round corners with ease.
As soon as I got my xbox 360 a few years ago, this was one of the first XBLA games I got. Just wish the online community was much bigger than it is, but it's nice to still get some awesome multiplayer games in!
hey yall the guy who sang like pretty much alot of the songs in daytona is the same man who sang the FZERO MEDLEY! and i am talking the smash bros fans only lol
I agree about the Saturn port being amazing in the playability department. I must have played that port more than anything else ever! Saying that the Xbox 360 version is also fantastic. In fact it controls just as well as the Saturn but looks better than the arcade since it's based upon the arcade rel-release in HD.
Correct. It's the only racing game apart from Out Run and the original Ridge Racer that I keep coming back to however Daytona is the one I come back to the most. It's just such a great game.
Retro Core I love the 360 version most because the dreamcast version was a good looking but it was a big let down with the control. Out Run love the original xbox the 2SP and the coast 2 coast. But is real, Daytona is a game that never dies.
Sega racing games are heaven, that's why there is still many fans. Power drift, super hang on, outrun, cool riders, virtua racing, daytona usa, sega rally, manx tt, initial d, sega race tv, scud race, le Mans 24h, crazy taxi, outrun 2 etc...
I might track down a Japanese version of CCE but I tell you man, my friends spent many Friday night rocking CCE back in our high school days so we adore the new theme AM3 made for that version! haha come on man, IT ROCKS!! :-D
I wasn't aware it was still o the PS3 store. I remember someone saying it was removed along with Afterburner Climax. It's good to know it's still up there.
Fun Fact: On the back cover of the European version of Daytona USA for the Saturn (not the Circuit/Champion Circuit Edition), they had the nerve of calling it a "pixel perfect" conversion
I have to say it: I don't understand complaining over controls in Daytona USA for the Dreamcast. Once you set sensitivity to a proper level the car controls very well. It is suited well for analog stick and triggers and you can do very smooth turns. I love everything about this version, except a version of Sky high. The original is much better.
Another great Battle! What upcoming battles do we have to look forward too, I wonder? (Probably top-secret). A bit of trivia, but the beloved Hornet was a downloadable for that awful RR Vita game.
There's a few more Model 2 games on the way which I own various originals of :) Then I also have a list so long that it contains enough games for 2 years of videos with a release each week :) But what will be next? More model 2 I'm thinking :) Yeah, I know about the Hornet in RR on the vita. Pretty cool but a sad game.
Retro Core That's probably, Dead or Alive, in the bag then? (That will be very interesting, in terms of cross-platforms). Anyway, you are producing a truly great, fascinating and original series here. Many Thanks!
Dreamcast version is not running through vga. In order to have any fun in this game you must select manual. On sharp corners (any coreners you are hitting the wall) A few meters before one of those turns (do not let go of gas, do not brake) Shift down 2 gears (at this point the drift will start) after 1 second shift up 1 second later shift up again This should result in a clean drift around most corners There are better tutorials, but that is what it basically comes down to, I think..
I actually prefer circuit edition on the Saturn over the original Saturn version. I hear many people say the controls are worse but I don't think they're worse just different. In fact I do better in some areas with the different controlls compared to the original. Pair that with the increased framerate, inreased draw distance, new tracks, more cars, multiplayer and choice of music makes it my favourite racing game on the Saturn.
I always wondered what did they smoke when putting the horse as a playable car... ... the same when they did actually put Grasshopper in Fighter's Mega Mix too! The game (Arcade) is a bit misterious and curious, which adds replayability. Like the roulette in track one, the seagulls getting larger if you constantly press start button on track 2! And that Jeffrey's statue...... Sega Model 2 emulator by ElSemi at version 1.0 fully supports 360 pads (I haven't tried a 360 racing controller though, I got a cheap one for PC and it's awful... but 360 pads are just good enough!).
Recent port aside, my favorite was the first Saturn one, and yeah had the PAL version too. Wish they would have released Daytona USA 2 for DC and not just another version of the first one, especially with those kind of controls. Did hear it worked great with the wheel though.
I am so happy you did this BOTP but man.. watching this play was somewhat painful. I know it's hard with modern controllers but at least you have to play on manual transmission to do some powersliding! That's half the fun of the game is figuring out the powersliding mechanic. This is one of my favorite games of all time and i adore the medium track. I have played it hundreds of times trying to perfect the racing line and get the most speed out of the turns.. The way the power sliding mechanic interacts with the downshifting and slamming from brakes to gas and the force feedback of the arcade version's steering is like no other game. I urge you to watch and read about higher level daytona USA play if you are not familiar with powersliding or why to use manual transmission as it will open up a whole new world to you with this classic game. To make a metaphor - playing the game in automatic and simply braking to take the turns is like playing street fighter and only using the attack buttons. Learning how and when to use the shifter, brake, and throttle to powerslide is like learning how to do combos and mixups in street fighter.
Oh make no mistake I was the God of Daytona back in 1994. I played the Saturn game to death as well. I just haven't played the game properly for many years so I've lost my touch. The PC versions were played with a keyboard too which didn't help. The DC version has awful controls plus kept dropping frames as did the arcade emulation making it hard to control. All excuses I know but true :)
Retro Core I remember picking up the DC version of Daytona and after a couple of goes thought I had bought a stinker. But I discovered by being really light on the analog stick and not pushing hard left and right it played like a treat. Despite it's ugliness I still think my favourite home version is the original Saturn version for sheer playability. Never had a 360 but that does look nice.
Wilton NineSixNine You're right. The Saturn original is or should I say was the best home version. The ultimate version not is the 360 port without a doubt :)
I'm so happy I was able to alert you in time about RUclips's new 60fps support so this comparison could be done as such. And what a game to start releasing 60fps videos on........Thanks for all your effort. One minor nitpick, in an effort to help you get as good a video as you can make it, the scrolling of your text is very jumpy, despite it being 60fps. In fact, its more apparent now than before at 30. Is there anything you can do about that?
Ah, the scrolling text is jumpy only if your computer is skipping frames. I check the videos via my 360, XBOX One, Desk Top and laptop. On the laptop and the 360 the text can be a little jumpy (more so on the laptop) but on the other systems it's silky smooth. If you have a XBox One or maybe a PS4, try streaming the video through that to see if that fixes the choppy scrolling text.
I was able to use a script to download the video and check it, and play it directly on my PC. I'm not dropping any frames, and the effect s still there..
Hmm, very off. I'll take another look at it tonight when I get home. How bad is it? Is it constantly jerking or is it like every now and then a frame is dropped?
Woaah, i ve never noticed the graphic différences between the original saturn version and the championship circuit edition. There are less textures and polygones in the CCE, lower resolution too... It's a "light" edition.
Hi Retro Core, greetings from Medellin, Colombia. A question for you, since you seem to be quite knowlegable about Sega: since Sega re-released a lot of ports of their games for the PS2 and even the Gamecube, then how come there was never a Daytona USA port for the PS2? These platforms that you mention here got it, yet Sega never bothered with the 6th generation consoles (apart from the Dreamcast, obiously). It's something I have always wondered. Great job with your videos, I enjoy them quite a lot. Keep it up.
Hi Carlos, The reason Sega never did a PS2 port of Daytona was mostly due to the Daytona license. After the Dreamcast game Sega's license to use the Daytona name has ran out. They couldn't even use it in the arcades. So when they released a HD version of Daytona in the Arcade they had to call it Sega Classic Racing. This is the version of the game which was ported to the Xbox 360. Luckily for us Sega was able to require the Daytona license for the 360 port.
What a shame! But then again, at that time Sega was facing lots and lots of hardships. Porting games to non native systems of them was very hard, I guess. Nevertheless, Daytona USA for PS2 could have been a killer app for Sega back then. So sad, really :(
7MGTESupraTurboA it's a possibility for sure but one we'll never know since as far as thepublic has known this game it has always been Daytona since the early screen shots.
Woudn't it be lovely if it's ported to the newest generation of consoles regardless of whatever name it's called? Well, that's a possibility all of us, Daytona USA fans, would love.
Hmm, it's a little different than real driving, that's for sure. Without actually playing the game it's tough to remember but I'm sure what I do is break sharply (stab the break) and turn in to the corner at the same time. From here I accelerate once the drift starts. This keeps the car under control. You also should stear the car as well to keep control. When you want to come out of the drft, you must turn in to it.
i come back after almost a year later to sadly break some bad news, Daytona USA on XBOX Marketplace is being sadly delisted after February 7th 2023 😢glad i got it when i got it
I can't say I know if that's true or not. It's been a long time since I saw Sega Racing Classic. I would make sense to improve the home ports though since they are running on more powerful hardware.
😂 Still remember my old forum days, Jag fanboys swore blind if you used X game engine and the Jaguar CD, the Jaguar could pull off a component conversion of this. The hardware couldn't process as much complex geometry as the Saturn, let alone being built with Texture-Mapping in mind. If this had come to the Jaguar as part of the Sega deal, it would of been an abomination. Atari couldn't even get a solid Virtua Racing style game on the system 🤣
Yeah, I have no doubt the PC games will work once I start changing drivers and so on but that all takes time which I don't have :( I really did want to have them running correctly on the laptop but I have to move on to another project.
I dont actually recall the PC version of Daytona USA Deluxe looking any bad. Sure, there is the pop-up, but everything else looks fine to me. You may try using High polygon mode if you haven't. Also, weirdly you can choose the music of each track, with most of them being listed as (remix) even if the original isnt present (On my CD apparently). I dont remember either the weather/ambience selectable, and I dont know how to enable it.
+TheArcadeStriker It's possible that Japan saw a different release than the west. maybe that's why you didn't have the weather option and your version looked different?
+TheArcadeStriker Just worth mentioning, now you can play the original PC version of Daytona USA with no graphic glitches if you use dxwnd to make the game windowed and Borderless Gaming to make it fullscreen without screwing up the graphics. (You must have loaded the game through dxwnd)
That's pretty cool but now that we have a better than arcade version available on the 360 and PS3 (I think) it's nothing more than a curiosity. That is unless you don't have access to the 360 or PS3 versions.
Well, it at least works for me. (I dont have access to HD versions due to lacking the needed consoles) It definitively plays better than Saturn version (No sound on SSF and input lag).
Yes, I was using a ripped version of that. I don't own the original of that release I'm afraid. I guess the ISO was ripped wrongly which is wh the music track wasn't playing. I should have dubbed something over it I guess.
Retro Core Search for the full disc image of Daytona USA Deluxe here www.old-games.ru/ Use your browser's whole page translator if you can't read Russian. The archived image is about 406.88MB because of the Redbook music tracks. After installing, you can either use the original software renderer that the game shipped with or apply the Direct3D patch that you can find here www.patches-scrolls.com/ Then listen to the music for that PC exclusive track because it a unique medley music track that's only found on the PC version.
+Gregz0r They're all running at 720p in this video due to the way they are captured but I guess you want to know the native resolution? I'm afraid that's too much work as these videos are done in what very little spare time I have. Sorry.
I'll just write it here: Arcade: 512x384 Saturn (both versions): 320x240 PC (both versions): 640x480 (I think? If not, then 320x240) Dreamcast: 640x480 Xbox 360: 1280x720 All of them are 4:3 except the Xbox 360 version
+Marcel Weber The Japanese version does have better controls than the US release because it came much later but even then it's still not as good as the original.
I use the software that came with the capture card in conjunction with MP4 H246 encoders from the K-Lite codec pack. I'll give OBS a try and see what results I can get. maybe smaller file sizes could be possible.
Retro Core OBS is good for recording games from you PC (emulators) for recording stuff from actual consoles i use AmaRec its really good and can encode on the fly if using x264vfw codec, i can record 1080p videos about and hour long and they only come out around 30GB and are more or less loseless quality. Theres a guide here if your interested....blz.la/rgb/guide.html Hope its of help
The best version overall is Playstation 3, why? Its the same as the 360 version but logitech gt logitech g25 and g27 force feedback wheel work great with the playstation 3 version. Also if you use a M2 emulator on Pc and know how to change options in the game, not emulator options you can get the original arcade force feedback using a Pc compatible force feedback wheel like logitech and Thrustmaster.
I would give you a million thumps up for this video if I could! Fantastic video, minus a couple spelling errors (ridiculous not ridicules) ;-) Love your show.
It does play like a dream. They fixed the controls to work within the limitations of the frame rate. Everything feels just right. It isn't like gaming today where controls are made for 60fps and if your game doesn't reach that, we'll tough. Back then limitation had to be worked around.
I think the reason people talk about the original so much is because it was lightyears ahead of anything else around at the time. The 2nd game is also very good but its not as iconic as the original.
@@RetroCore True. I bet when this game first came out, it looked and felt next gen compared to everything else. I just wish that Daytona USA 2 got more attention by both SEGA, AM2, and fans alike, as it never got a home port. By the way, did you know that Daytona USA 2 was planned to get a port on the Dreamcast, but due to time constraints, I guess, Daytona USA 2001 took its place, borrowing elements from the sequel?
I live in the UK. I got a few questions that I need answering for Daytona USA Championship Edition: 1. Does the game share the US name or the Japanese name 2. Does it share the same soundtrack as the US release or the Japanese release? I'll add more question if I need to when I get more curious until I give in and bought the game.
For the Saturn re-release the names do different and only the Japanese version features the original music while the US and UK version only have the nasty remade music tracks. The US version is the worst though. The UK version had the controls tweaked a little with the Japanese version being tweaked even more. Overall the Japanese release is the diffinative version. Same with Sega Rally too.
I've always want to see Daytona USA 2 BOTE/PE on PSN and Xbox Live Arcade. But we have emulation. We all can play Daytona USA 2 and SCUD Race on the Supermodel 3(SEGA Model 3) emulator.
SEGA handed Sony such a win with this one on Saturn, when people saw it running in high street stores next to the Playstation running Ridge Racer.. Game over man Game over
That 360 port is a thing of beauty.
Andrew Vrba It sure is.
If only people still played it online. It’s certainly a fun time.
before I bought it, i tried emulation but it did thus thing where the start button was held down so it never stopped playing... glad I gave up

I really don't know why sega didn't make a port of Daytona 2 even though the dreamcast was surely powerful enough to bring Daytona 2 to the living room
I love Dreamcast Daytona. The handling is more like Scud Race than Daytona which I actually enjoy. Makes for an extra challenge.
Classic. I can never get enough of this and Daytona 2. I constantly drive with this music on my cd player.
If only Daytona 2 would get a home conversion.
Retro Core Agreed. So frustrating they tease it in Outrun 2 on Xbox.
@@RetroCoreIt’s finally happening.
Forgot how ugly the saturn port was. I still played a ton of it because it played like the arcade even if it looked like a 32x game, lol.
The Saturn may not be much of a 3D machine, but the 32X can't do that much texture mapped polygons that are on display in Saturn Daytona USA
The first Saturn Daytona was rushed. Sega Rally, while lower-res than the arcade, was a very close conversion for a home console at the time
As far as know, 8 player linked system arcade consists of 8 different colors of hornet.
Player 1 (Red), Player 2 (Blue), Player 3 (Yellow), Player 4 (Green), Player 5 (Black), Player 6 (Pink), Player 7 (Light Blue), & Player 8 (Orange).
I used to have the PC version of Deluxe. It just didn't scratch the itch.
It took a while to happen but the 360 port finally came to the rescue.
Indeed. The 360 release is the ultimate way to play Daytona at home. Still, the first Saturn version with it's awful graphics still plays really well.
The Japanese Circuit Edition but the best version to play is the original release. The best version of Daytona USA out of all versions is the 360 version.
No worries :)
The best version of Saturn Sega Rally is the Japanese only Sega Rally Championship Plus!
Binging the port playlist and so sick of that song by midway through this video!
This is my childhood right there. In the arcades playing outrun and daytona
UPDATE : 360 port is great! :) I still love the DC port with the wheel too and it has more tracks.
Good call. Back in the day the online community was good but it kind of dropped of by a year later.
hey yall the guy who sang like pretty much alot of the songs in daytona is the same man who sang the FZERO MEDLEY! and i am talking the smash bros fans only lol
one of the best arcade game ever, but on the real cabinet
Me playing this 10 years ago: Wow! So realistic!
Me today: Wow! 3D graphics improved so well!
You'll have to revise this with the new Daytona!
The original AM2 Saturn port is still the most fun to this day.
I agree about the Saturn port being amazing in the playability department. I must have played that port more than anything else ever! Saying that the Xbox 360 version is also fantastic. In fact it controls just as well as the Saturn but looks better than the arcade since it's based upon the arcade rel-release in HD.
Love this game even to this day.
Daytona on the 360 is by far the ultimate version of the game. It looks fantastic, handles great and has online multiplay (sadly no longer working).
Sega racing games are heaven, that's why there is still many fans. Power drift, super hang on, outrun, cool riders, virtua racing, daytona usa, sega rally, manx tt, initial d, sega race tv, scud race, le Mans 24h, crazy taxi, outrun 2 etc...
nice extensive comparison of the classic!
Thanks.
gimme the ps3 version on my switch right this instant!!!
I really like this game, especially the arcade version with the steering wheel and all that crud.
Awesome comment
excellent video, subscribed
+alex ling cheers man!
What triggers me about this was there was NO PORT OF DAYTONA 2
That is a shame. Daytona 2 should have came to the Dreamcast
I might track down a Japanese version of CCE but I tell you man, my friends spent many Friday night rocking CCE back in our high school days so we adore the new theme AM3 made for that version! haha come on man, IT ROCKS!! :-D
Just watching this made me go and purchase the ps3 download one, thanks nostalgia overload.
I wasn't aware it was still o the PS3 store. I remember someone saying it was removed along with Afterburner Climax. It's good to know it's still up there.
Retro Core you're kinda correct. But Daytona didn't get removed, Outrun Online Arcade did. After burner got removed aswell.
Man that "sky high" song makes me think of PSO ver 2 on Dreamcast
That's odd. Still, both great games 👍
Fun Fact: On the back cover of the European version of Daytona USA for the Saturn (not the Circuit/Champion Circuit Edition), they had the nerve of calling it a "pixel perfect" conversion
Seriously? Man, that's some nerve.
Dreamcast is Best no competition, wish we got part 2
I have to say it: I don't understand complaining over controls in Daytona USA for the Dreamcast. Once you set sensitivity to a proper level the car controls very well. It is suited well for analog stick and triggers and you can do very smooth turns. I love everything about this version, except a version of Sky high. The original is much better.
He's from Japan, and thus, he didn't have that option while making this video.
Rolling Staaaaaaaaaaaaaart... another nostalgic trip with a classic
Glad you liked it.
Yess thanks! I had the pc version
Very good mate!
Thanks. Daytona is a true classic.
More model 2 I'm thinking :)
Yeah, I know about the Hornet in RR on the vita. Pretty cool but a sad game.
Retro Core
That's probably, Dead or Alive, in the bag then? (That will be very interesting, in terms of cross-platforms). Anyway, you are producing a truly great, fascinating and original series here. Many Thanks!
Nice comparison man!
decayedmatter Thanks. Glad you liked it.
Dreamcast version is not running through vga.
In order to have any fun in this game you must select manual.
On sharp corners (any coreners you are hitting the wall)
A few meters before one of those turns (do not let go of gas, do not brake)
Shift down 2 gears (at this point the drift will start)
after 1 second shift up
1 second later shift up again
This should result in a clean drift around most corners
There are better tutorials, but that is what it basically comes down to, I think..
It way probably running through RGB for this video.
I'd recommend getting the PC version of Circuit Edition if you have a PC from the early 00's lying around.
Will it look better than it does on my video? I have a feeling the textures look so bad because of the graphic drivers in modern PCs.
Retro Core It looks quite a bit better, yes. I'd say it's slightly better looking than the Saturn version.
NIce to hear. The original PC version also looks nicer than the original Saturn version.
I do have such a PC, might be worth a go!
custardo Definitely, mate.
We played this game on Saturn like nuts, until SEGA Rally Championship came out and Daytona USA CE.
You and me both! I still play it from time to time.
Both the updated CE and CCE are better ports than the orignal Saturn game IMO.
Here lies the most popular arcade in my entire country
(Well atleast until 2014)
Your country has good taste 👍
I'm also a very big fan of the Saturn game. It looks like crap but plays so well. Not so much a fan of the DC version mind you.
Feel the exact same way.
The PAL version is the worst version in sega saturn port and i wouldn't recommend playing that version.
Heh, there is more popup on the 360 than Dreamcast. Wasn't expecting that.
Ah, that's because it's based upon the Arcade code where as the Dreamcast version was completely remade which also explains its crappy controls.
@@RetroCore which can be adjusted on tha US version
Wilton NineSixNine
You're right. The Saturn original is or should I say was the best home version. The ultimate version not is the 360 port without a doubt :)
Is there any differences regarding the graphic, gameplay and in game content from 360 to PS3 version?
I couldn't say as I've never played the PS3 version. They're probably the same I would imagine.
Retro Core Consistently. Like when you're watching a 24fps panning scene on a 60hz TV. Hopefully you know what I'm talking about.
rd1979 I'm looking at it a bit more, and it seems better, but I still see it at times, but the framerate counter says its not dropping any frames.
Amazing soundtrack.
that freaking song... DAYTONNAAAA
Woaah, i ve never noticed the graphic différences between the original saturn version and the championship circuit edition. There are less textures and polygones in the CCE, lower resolution too... It's a "light" edition.
Actually the CCE is higher resolution by a long shot. It may just be hard to notice on the video. Not sure about the polygon count though.
I'm not sure too, that's the impression i had when i saw the two games.
Keep it up.
Hi Carlos,
The reason Sega never did a PS2 port of Daytona was mostly due to the Daytona license.
7MGTESupraTurboA
And now you can't even download it any more :( I hope my 360 HD doesn't die.
9:25 How to initiate a controlled drift in daytona? I can only place 11th, 12th or so in that course.
Music be driving me crazy
Ok, hypothetical..
On the Saturn original, you can fix either the frame rate to 30fps (not 60.. sorry lol) or the pop in... which do you chose?
Framerate as long as the handling stays the same.
Great video :)
Dreamcast u can pick from 10 cars and some of them are crazy
Joguei muito isto quando cheguei no Japão kkk muito bom!!
i come back after almost a year later to sadly break some bad news, Daytona USA on XBOX Marketplace is being sadly delisted after February 7th 2023 😢glad i got it when i got it
Yep, all 360 games are going. Get them while you can!
@@RetroCore i might make a spare account just to have a backup with Daytona USA
From the looks of it the PS3 and 360 port has better draw distance than SEGA Racing Classic (2009).
I can't say I know if that's true or not. It's been a long time since I saw Sega Racing Classic. I would make sense to improve the home ports though since they are running on more powerful hardware.
There is a new Ringedge/Ringwide emulator out that plays SEGA Racing Classic. Its called TeknoParrot if you want to have a look for you self.
Thanks, I wasn't aware of that.
Atari couldn't even get a solid Virtua Racing style game on the system 🤣
anyone know where to download the arcade rom???
I have the Deluxe version with the D3D. It runs fine on my older PC when I downgrade the GeForce drivers.
Nevermind, the D3D patch enables the weather option. I still see it the same, though.
It's weird that the Dreamcast version has zero draw-in, but the PS3/360 version has pop-up objects in a few places
David Curry That's because it's based upon the arcade code where as the Dreamcast game is an all new title.
at 26:00 what was up with that thing flying? It looked like a flying wing of a seagull with out the seagull body. Maybe it was a stealth Seagull.
Were you playing a rip of the Windows 95 version of Deluxe Edition? When you were showing the PC exclusive track, the music is missing.
Yes, I was using a ripped version of that. I don't own the original of that release I'm afraid. I guess the ISO was ripped wrongly which is wh the music track wasn't playing. I should have dubbed something over it I guess.
Retro Core Search for the full disc image of Daytona USA Deluxe here www.old-games.ru/
Use your browser's whole page translator if you can't read Russian.
The archived image is about 406.88MB because of the Redbook music tracks.
After installing, you can either use the original software renderer that the game shipped with or apply the Direct3D patch that you can find here www.patches-scrolls.com/
Then listen to the music for that PC exclusive track because it a unique medley music track that's only found on the PC version.
Tempora158 Thanks ! I'll download that and have a look and listen to the PC music.
7:17
What happend to the sky? Why the graphics are so glitched?
Now this is weird since this game works fine on my Win 10.
Very old video. I was probably using a crappy PC at that point.
Daytona USA 2 console port coming next month!
Sadly it's hidden within another game. If only Sega would release a Model 2 collection disc.
Would be cool if you could show what resolution each game is running at.
+Gregz0r They're all running at 720p in this video due to the way they are captured but I guess you want to know the native resolution? I'm afraid that's too much work as these videos are done in what very little spare time I have. Sorry.
I'll just write it here:
Arcade: 512x384
Saturn (both versions): 320x240
PC (both versions): 640x480 (I think? If not, then 320x240)
Dreamcast: 640x480
Xbox 360: 1280x720
All of them are 4:3 except the Xbox 360 version
Circuit Edition was a missed opportunity, it had better frame-rate and graphics, but worse controls than the first port.
+Marcel Weber The Japanese version does have better controls than the US release because it came much later but even then it's still not as good as the original.
Mark what capture software do you use, have you given OBS a go?
I use the software that came with the capture card in conjunction with MP4 H246 encoders from the K-Lite codec pack. I'll give OBS a try and see what results I can get. maybe smaller file sizes could be possible.
Retro Core OBS is good for recording games from you PC (emulators) for recording stuff from actual consoles i use AmaRec its really good and can encode on the fly if using x264vfw codec, i can record 1080p videos about and hour long and they only come out around 30GB and are more or less loseless quality. Theres a guide here if your interested....blz.la/rgb/guide.html
Hope its of help
Is it possible to run any of these on a emulator on the psp?
I don't think so. But then again I'm not very familiar with PSP emulation.
Oops, missed that error :(
ROOOO-LING STAAAAAAAART!!!! I have the PS3 version! WOOHOO!!!!
20-60fps Lol, the Saturn version just got an instant upgrade.
Yep, it sure did.
If the 360 had lan play.....
neozeed1984 Wouldn't that be the shit? I don't think it's PS3 counterpart does either sadly.
That’s the main thing why did they not include local multiplayer?
Ótimo video!!! Parabéns!!!!
The Sega Saturn version played like a dream
then you say it ran at 20-24fps
well which is it?
It does play like a dream. They fixed the controls to work within the limitations of the frame rate. Everything feels just right.
It isn't like gaming today where controls are made for 60fps and if your game doesn't reach that, we'll tough. Back then limitation had to be worked around.
Found the frame whore
60 fps or not, if the controls are good, then it plays well, something the Dreamcast port couldn't do despite muh 60 fps
I want that 360/PS3 perfect port for my Switch Right. Fucking. Now.
I hear so much good stuff about Daytona USA, but what about it's sequel? Any opinions?
Surprised Daytona USA 2 didn't get much attention, as it was my first arcade game I've ever played
Rorring start!
I live in the UK. I got a few questions that I need answering for Daytona USA Championship Edition:
1. Does the game share the US name or the Japanese name
Yes we can but super model isn't perfect with Daytona 2 unfortunately.
SEGA handed Sony such a win with this one on Saturn, when people saw it running in high street stores next to the Playstation running Ridge Racer.. Game over man Game over
Yep, the Saturn version looked crap but it was such a playable game.
