    I love the song abide with me fast because it comforts me when I am sad. I like the sound of organ because it gives pleasant and energetic sense when we play melody with addition of more notes to make chords. Barrel organ helps the learners to listen and practice playing music on organ.

    First time I heard Abide with me, my late partner mentioned how the song had deep meaning for him, as it was the hymn played at his mother's funeral.
    It was less than two years on, when I chose it for the hymn to be played at my partner's funeral in 1992.
    He was a beautiful soul,- that is all that needs to be said.

    This hymn always makes me cry- my mother sung it to me every time I went to bed, and it brings back memories of being safe and warm in bed and then tears happen. Beautiful.

    nice to see the details of the organ; Does the crank pressurize the air as well, and the pattern on the drum open up holes to the pipes?

    • @arburo1
      @arburo1 3 года назад +4

      The crank operates the bellows which are below the barrel. The pins and bridges on the barrel operate the pallets in the windchest, which allow air through the reeds.

    Is there a builder's name anywhere? Is it English, perhaps by Varetto? You appear to be missing the front panel and lid. The central keyframe spring is wrong and should be two, one at each end.

      Obviously the missing pieces were just for the eye. It plays well without having them.

    Fascinating. The spacing of the keys suggest it's a dumb organist but there's no sign of a keyboard for it to sit on. Have you made some means of coupling it to an electronic sound generator of some sort? It looks to have been made by someone who also made barrel movements for building into organs as there is clearly an unused bellows operating crank on the drive shaft. Are there any details in English?

      +Marcel Glover From what I can tell, this must have been fabricated in the late 19th Century to Early 20th Century. After all the hymn "Abide with Me" was composed in 1861. It was most likely made in England as not only is this hymn pretty exclusively used in Anglican churches but also very few countries had the manufacturing capacity to make such a device at the time and England was one of them. Again considering the amount of time it would take to make such a machine it would most likely be used for Anglican services only. Of course the machine itself (not counting the grooves that indicate the melody) may be older than 1861 but the finesse of the machine work does seem to put it in the second half of the 19th Century. I know that doesn't answer your question 100% but it's what I can tell from my experience of antiques and antique musical instruments and music history.

      +Marcel Glover This is a reed barrel organ, the two arms attatched to the crankshaft operate a set of bellows in the bottom of the organ case. The air is forced through reeds, controlled by the pins on the barrel. No electronics involved whatsoever!

    • @michaelbauers8800
      @michaelbauers8800 6 лет назад

      Thanks for the detail on the reeds. I think we use to own a cheap electric reed organ when I was a kid. Sounded a bit crap, but music is music :) I thought some of the street organs used pipes though?

    • @theorganguy
      @theorganguy 3 года назад

      @@michaelbauers8800 most of them actually, yes, but reed organs were also quite common. A common name for them is "Meloton", but also most organettes are reed based.
