Just came across this on June 3, 2022. This is the best arrangement I have ever heard. I love the tempo, the instrumentation and the vocals. Thank you so much. I found this b/c I was a little emotional/sentimental b/c my dad's b-day is coming up and I was just reminiscing about my Appalachian family roots from Georgia. He's in heaven now. They are leaving this earth pretty quickly. I miss them all so much and our family reunions we had every year since the early 60's until covid. Finally, after the covid mess we're having another reunion in Cordele. But it will be small, maybe 25. There aren't many left. We used to have 100 or more show up. But the young ones don't want to keep it going. Oh, how I miss those good ole days from the 50's and on.
Once again...thanks for recteating this traditonal song in so unique a way! I've heard a few versions and also sang a choral arrangement in a choir where I used to sing but yours definitely beats all the existing ones!
Ecellent Version. My favorite movie scene EVER is the NCO Ball at Ft, Apachie, the Grand March then Henry Fonda with Shirley Temple to Golden Slippers!!! Have talked personally to Tom as I did my Master's Thesis on "Stephen Foster and the Rise of Popular Music in America" . Have ALL his CDs. He ranks righ up with Tom Glazer in these songs!!!
Thanks, Tom. This was great. We used to sing this at RA (Royal Ambassadors of God) camp back in the late 50' and early 60's. (sorry posted this to the next song on list by mistake earlier).
I will forever associate this classic minstrel song with Golden Grahams cereal because of its use as a commercial jingle when I was a kid. Back then I didn't know that the jingle was an adaptation of an old song.
@@harryzhang4660 Although it is a minstrel song and not a "cowboy song" per se, it does seem to be in the soundtracks of a lot of classic western films.
Oddly this is a frequent tune for The Mummers Parade every new years day here in Philadelphia. However, the mummers were very racist and did not allow African Americans in the parade until the Civil rights fight really took hold. I am told however mummers did wear the theatrical no no and strut in "black face". I just find it insulting that they could use his song and forbid/discriminate against him if he wanted to March to his own song. His other work of note is a state song , "My Old Kentucky Home". Just some sad and warped trivia but awful truth
We miss you, Tom. You left us a great musical legacy. RIP, Tom.
Mummers strut every New Years day at Philly mummers parade. Love this. Reminds me of home.

My Mom used to play this when I was young. It was one of our favorites. Thanks for this great memory

I'd ever thought it was only the soundtrack's of Little Lord movie 😆🤣😆 THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SHARING
Nicely done. This was sung by my great grandmother to my grandmother as a lullaby in the 1890's.

Now that's a thesis I might actually enjoy reading! (I'd never get around to it, though)
This song's author is James A. Bland, not Stephen C. Foster.
That was fantastic! Thanks so much
Dan Rydell's gonna sing this for my birthday.
Love it!
The best Song i've ever heard! Thank You!
Very nice! Thanks for this.

Very cool. I heard that song on Disney's 'That's Where the Music Comes From'.
I love that version of that song. Another song we square dance to.
One of the Pokemon soundtrack definitely took some type of inspiration from this song.
Thanks a lot. Love it.

Golden grams cereal commercial
Unofficial theme song of The Mummers!!!
Golden Grahams Cereal Commercial (1976)
Heard it sing on Roots next generation “that’s the cereal song!”

I t was played on Roots the next generation
First time I heard it. Couldn’t believe it wasn’t just a commercial song
that's what brought me here

This song should be the official anthem of the Old West
Actually this is a minstrel song supposed to be performed by blacks or whites in blackface, its theme has nothing to do with the West.
I just did some research also and this song is definitely out of my repertoire. It's a lousy song anyway.

This video is making me hungry for cereal
🤣🤣😂😂😭😭
Oh, dem golden slippers, and the cow as white as milk, and the cape as red as blood, and the hair as yellow as corn :)
And into the woods...
