When I divorced my boys’ father, they had just turned 2 and 1. They are now 19 & 18. I’ve stayed single the entire time to protect them. I must say, I’ve done an incredible job raising them. They are sweet, kind, caring, and very intelligent young men. Oldest is studying electrical engineering and my youngest will study software engineering.

I’m 100% confident that sexual relationship between the stepfather and the stepson started way before he was 19. There has to be a reason why he started to take drugs, and he was in and out of rehab. I don’t think his parents protected him.. The stepfather was in a position of authority over him, taking advantage of him. I believe this child had been raped and abused sexually for quite a while before he became an adult.

That's what I think as well. I believe his drug use was caused by betraying his own mother and having been betrayed by Richard. Then his pig of a mother!!! NO excuse for her. Nobody was there for Harrison. I believe that the murder was not premeditated but a crime of passion.

I was abused by my stepfather and I found out some 50 years years later that my mother never believed he had done anything. That's when I told her a small bit of what he had done. It was still too hard for me to tell her exactly what had happened! She had believed the lies he told her. She had not asked me for any details when I told her that he had 'bothered' me. I was about 16 then and had no idea how to tell her what he had done. There was no sex, just a lot of inappropriate touching. She was upset when finally told her part of what happened. So I totally agree that every mother should be very open to the possibility of abuse by a stepfather.

      That’s terrible!
The same thing happened to me with my uncle (my mom’s sister’s husband).. I was 12 and flew to visit my aunt and uncle for the summer.. I was very naive and was still in grade school.. the whole time I was there, my uncle was grooming me.. giving me beer behind my aunt’s back - talking about boys/sex etc… I was very uncomfortable around him and made sure we were never alone together - the night before I was leaving he came into my bedroom asking for a “goodbye kiss” (as he was only wearing underwear!) I said something about needing to use the bathroom and locked myself in until I heard him go to bed.. when I got home I told my grandma and begged her not to tell anyone because I was embarrassed.. she ended up telling my aunt. She told my grandma it was “my fault” and that I had “led him on”! I was a f*cking CHILD! I’ve never forgave my aunt - never saw him again but they ended up divorcing.. there’s millions of stories- unfortunately- like ours… so damn sad!

The very concept of our relationship being based on anything else fills me with horror, also rage and sadness for the stepkids who don't get that type of love.

My mom married him when I was 14, & ALL of the relationships- between he & I, my mom & his son, his son & I- were never anything but familial & loving in all the appropriate ways. The very thought of anything sexual in nature would have made us all physically ill. I honestly never even thought of that as something that went on until I became an adult, started hearing true crime stories, & just was more knowledgeable about the world in general. It's just disgusting & I'm so sick to see that people do not have the same experience with step-parents who are twisted deviants.

I look back at when I was 19 and how not mature I was and most will agree. The only ones that argue a person is an adult at age 18 are teenagers. When I married my second husband I had three kids under 12. Two boys and a girl. My new husband told me that under no circumstances would he ever enter the kid’s bedrooms alone or play wrestle with the boys. This served to avoid any discomfort for the kids and also to avoid any misunderstanding of his actions. That was 35 years ago. All the kids view him as much their father as their biological father is. They all have kids now and they all love their Grandad. Not all stepfather stories are dark. It’s important to have clearly defined boundaries from the start and to communicate those boundaries to everyone involved. And I agree that the word “affair” has no place in this story. It’s abuse.

Consider that a pedo could be a friend's parent or even a relative. It could be a teacher, church leader or coach. Thinking that you can keep your kids safe by never having a partner is overkill. What arebyou going to do? Keep them from every activity and shelter them at home 24/7? So many of you folks seem to think that every potential partner is a pedo. That's absolutely ridiculous. Manslaughter would have been a more appropriate charge. He was 19 when his step-father began the relationship with him. He was vulnerable, having had issues with substance abuse. Richard was a terribly unsavory character, putting his sexual desires over his own family and the families of the men he was intimate with. Harrison's mother was also unsavory, putting her career over the wellbeing of her own son. Ultimately, Harrison was a victim of his parental figures.

It was a beautiful photo but totally unprofessional. She got a phone call from me. I complimented her on the photo but in my best mom way explained it was not appropriate, looked like she was selling her body along with her services and if I was the wife of a buyer that photo would raise some concerns. Harrison the stepson was ABUSED by Richard the stepfather. Even if Harrison was consenting to such a relationship, we have to accept that it was an abusing attitude from a "fatherly figure" toward an "adopted son". Richard should have respected Harrison the young fellow. Harrison is the first and real "victim" in this crime. Sending him to 25 years in jail is unfair. Harrison should appeal that conviction.

In Europe, Harrison would not have received a prison sentence, given his young age, emotional instability, substance abuse, emotional abuse by his parents, rape, manipulation and betrayal by his stepfather over a prolonged period of time. He would have been considered a victim more than a perpetrator. Possibly a year or so in a psychiatric institution, then rehabilitation followed by release and support by social workers, reintegration into society a couple of years later.

This! What kind of mother not only refuses to act when her husband molests her son, but actively encourages her son to participate?! It is clear that Harrison's prior problems with substances were most likely due to his toxic home life - that she was responsible for... And she also ran a school?! At the very least, she should never be trusted around children again... I agree with you - she deserves to be behind bars.
The law and the justice system are there to protect the public, and the public are far more at risk from a child ab-se enabler than they are from someone who took out a predator because he couldn't take the ab-se any longer. He performed a public service, whilst she misused a position of trust and authority, knowingly causing immense harm to a troubled teen (her own teen!), to further her own career. She pretended to be a public servant, but only served herself, and sacrificed her own child in pursuit of her goals. That level of calm, calculating, callousness is far more terrifying than someone snapping and taking out a predator.

I had a mom like her, I went to her because my half-brother, her son prior to marry my dad was 14 years older than me and he molested me for years I told my mom two different occasions. The first time she said well Bill's always been weird. No joke I remember I was in first grade when I said that to her and that was her reply
When I was 11 I went to her again and she said that Dad would put us all out on the street if I say anything to him.
My dad would never do that. But I was a kid and I kept the secret. Thankfully my brother went off to the army. And I was able to relax and live. All my memories of my childhood prior to 12 are consumed with all the sex I had to perform for him.
I even had to go to doctors over the years because I would have such a bad UTIs in yeast infections. And I remember them always telling me when I wipe after I go poop to wipe from front to back. And just not knowing that the reason I had all these problems was because I was being raped.
Anyway there's a lot of mothers like that out there. As a matter of fact we lived in Columbine valley in Littleton colorado. Not sure what part of Littleton these people lived in. But I'm sure I'm not the only person out there with the similar story.

I do not agree with what aspired in this video:
      However a few facts:
      1. The age of consent in Colorado is 17, according to Colorado law. (Paedophile ???)
Stepson was of legal age to know right from wrong.
      2. If the wife knew the husband had affairs, and she knew her husband had sex with her son,
why did she not protect the son?
      3. the wife was just as manipulative as the husband.
Sadly, in our society many men & women are married and have extra-marital affairs, (male & female)
The stigma should be addressed, adults should be honest enough to say what they feel,
Secrecy have become a tool of convenience as well as a false sense of "power"
(What we tolerate we authorise to exist)
What I take from this video, sadness that consenting adults (including the son) could not and was not honest with each other and driven by greed... (sexual/ ambition/ lust for more)
Affecting others (the community) that trusted them.
