  • A very brief look around Gary Britton's 1973 MX360 Yamaha. This is a bike that Gary purchased some time back which was basically a bunch of parts in various boxes and through time Gary has built this very nice little Twinshock racer out of the collection of bits and pieces.

    A beautifull model from 1973 the silver red and alloy tank is a valuable vintage two stroke dirt bike that run on racing fuel from racing oils that smelt so good to watch the bikes perform they are a great kreation back in 73 the 1970s were fun and exiting times of reliable bikes from japan that caused a lot entertainment on the grass tracks of europe

    I have a low hour original MX360 that is matching numbers and still on its original bore from 1973. It's a fun ride once or twice a year 🇦🇺

    Mx 360 I have never seen one or heard of one ! I raced the Yamaha's back in the day All the MX range MX125 ,MX250 , looks like the motor out of the Later DT360 or it was put into the DT around the same time , Interesting , Australia

      The MX 360 engines were definitely different that the DT Enduro engines because they had lighter flywheels and the piston use was a piston ported piston with the 2 ports in the intake side of the piston that changed how the transfer ports timing worked while the DT 360 engines didn't have this . Also the MX 360 engines pistons were a 1 ring piston to help reduce friction and it helps reduce the weight of the piston while the DT 360 used a 2 ring piston . All of this stuff used on the MX 360 engine made the engine rev quicker and pull harder. The MX 360 engine also had a close ratio transmission so the engine RPM wouldn't drop nearly as much between shifts to help keep the engine in its power band while the DT 360 Enduro had none of this . The frames were chrome molly on the MX so it was lighter but stronger while the DT Enduro used a mild steel frame that weighed more and had a tendency to crack and bend . Even the exhaust tuner pipe was different that the Enduro and was tuned specifically for the power band the MX engine had . I had a 74 MX 360 many years ago and that bike hauled the mail . I gave a kid I knew a ride home one day on it when he got off the school bus being he got let off about a 1/2 mile away from his parents house and back then our roads were all dirt gravel roads and I asked if he wanted a ride home and he said sure so I told him to jump on and hang on but take your cap off because it's not going to stay on which he did stuffing it under his t shirt and we took off and I fanned the clutch banging through the first 3 gears with the front wheel off the ground then hitting 4th & 5th and by the time we were at his parents house his eyes were beat red and his hair straight back and he said damn this bike is friking fast lol . A few years later I sold the bike to buy a car and hadn't seen him in 20 years until I seen him one day at a bar his girlfriend was bartending at and after talking to him he mentioned that ride I gave him home that day all those years later which surprised me being it was so long ago . Wish I still had the bike because they are rare now and go for quite a bit of money restored and in perfectly running condition. I have a 81 Honda XR 500R 4 stroke 4 valve head with a super trapp exhaust on it that has better suspension but that MX 360 would spank that 500s ass on acceleration and if I could swap the 500 for the 360 I would in a heart beat . The Honda has a more plush ride but it's heavier and sits higher so it's harder to flick it around or actually dig it low in tight corners compared to the MX 360 I noticed when riding the 500 .

    Thanks for the video, I remember one of my friends had this bike and he raced it in the open class and won a lot, it wasn’t anything special just always went fast he loved it and didn’t change much on it, he used to make so many people mad because everyone was always get the newest and best bikes sold and he just kept on winning with this, I was running the 125 class on a Bultaco so I got to watch his race a lot and it was funny

    Nothing like finding out your oil injection doesn’t work by your piston
    Seizing up. It much better to premix your fuel and be sure of the ratio and
    Your engines dependability. I have owned a 360 Mx and they were faster than 95 percent of the other comparable Mx s

    if he could find the stock alm rims. they got a rib thats odd looking but it would be the way to go. every mx 360 i got has those rims.. and i know they are hard to find now. and getting a over priced.....

    • @peteloomis8456
      @peteloomis8456 8 месяцев назад +1

      Those were Anckront high shoulder rims or a version of them of them made by Yamaha back then . They were lighter than the steel rims used at the time and super strong as long as you kept the spokes tightened up and the rim trued. My 74 MX 360 had them many years ago when I had mine and I have a 75 Yamaha XS650 that's built as a street tacker that has the same rims on it . A street tacker is basically a flat track race bike that's legal to ride on the street that's stripped down and lightened up as much as possible but has a headlight and tail light and either just a speedometer or a tach to use to gauge you speeds plus it has Dot tires that look like flat track dirt racing tire but are legal to use on the street .

    Hi, nice video. Forgive my ignorance here but I recently saw what I thought was 1970s Yamaha dirtbike and there was a plastic tank under the seat. I thought these were air cooled but that suggests to me they are liquid cool, can you give me some insight on this please

    Properly ridden, your hands could be separated from the bars. You'd soon come to grips with it, or not?

    I guess he just put the 250 decals on it to run in the 250 class and hope he didn't get protested. Cheater...
