Wow what a beautiful collection of vintage moto-cross bikes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ............................................just sayin ......................:)
I had the 72 100 mx also mine had a dark green tank, it was a screamer revved out at 10,000 rpm. I used to smoke Yam,DTI 250'S On a small track without any long straightaways.
Just amazing! It's like having the test pages of the original Dirt Bike Magazine come to life! Thank you so much for sharing this collection for all to see.
Dave, you are a man after my own heart. I could appreciate the YZ in the background. I had a '78 YZ250 when I was 16. Thanks for preserving the sport for future generations to appreciate.
I just bought a 1973 185cc suzuki endro for $50 dollars need gas line and it will run I'm 43 I leared to ride on a bike just like it when I was 15 now my son will do the same yes.
As a manufacturing expert back in 2000, (or 2001?), I drove from Michigan to Bedford PA. to interview for a job at Cannondale. I got offered a job, but it was not enough money for me and I turned it down. about 2 months later, I read a test on it in MXA, and they tore that bike apart like I have never seen before in my decades of reading that magazine. About 6 months later, they stopped making MX bikes, (and quads). Too bad. I really wanted to see a high production American made bike that was competitive. A big factor of why they did not make it IMO is the area they were in, and how hard it must have been to find qualified people both in management and floor people. I could tell, the automotive guy they hired to run the motorcycle factory, (who I interviewed with), was not the right person for the job. Even though California is a terrible state to have a manufacturing business in, they might have had a better chance there because of it being central to the MX industry in the USA.
Awesome bikes, brings back old mx memories. My first dirt bike was 1970 Kawasaki 100 Trail Boss, then my first racing bike a 1972 CZ 250, then raced for years.
Damn that's so awesome man. My life and job are shit. It's been almost five years and I lost my job of sixteen years due to it shutting down. Had to sell everything and can only afford a roof over my head and barley food. My life was dedicated to riding. The bike I had kept out of all seven was my totally restored cr480 had to sell anyway four years ago to servive was my everything. My whole life I rode and collected. Now I'm just use to the fact I guess this is my destiny and how I was suppose to end up. Poor with nothing. Even just to have a bike to go through the trails to work and to look for a better job would be a dream come true. Your so lucky man!!! Very nice collection!!!!
Hi Gary. My mom's brother's name is Art. He had a son named David. We were at the family reunion a week ago and I saw the collection 'tis amazing. I want to trade D.C. a couple of 7 draw parts cubes for a rebuildable Honda Elsinore. Tom
Oh my god!!!! can i come over and walk that collection some time. You sound like your in california, im up in tahoe. Ill bring beer. Workin on a 79' XR250 right now, but im going more custom. My dad gave away 3 ossa's in like 88' i was in 5th grade and had no pull. My gramps gave away 2 old hondas and a yamaha that same year. Man! those guys I'd love to have those bikes today.
I decided to watch this expecting to see huge vintage motorcycles. Then the video started and to my amazement and utter disappointment the bikes were just normal sized.
@Pakn206bones, you could probably come and see the collection. I would have to arrange it with Dave (owner). Let me know. @Maico1975 - yes livin' in Nor Cal. But, from So Cal... @paintball644- no, sorry no Kawy MC1.. @sscarcello - of course! @69homohater - yes Dave does accept donations. If you want to, let me know.
my new favorite channel i grew up east side SJ late 60's early 70's dad bought all boys motorcycles my 1st was the family Honda 50 then 125 Yamaha as an 18 year old had all 3 of 1977 YZ 400, TT 500 and RD 400 i was in heaven thanks again for the channel
Wow!! My dad bought me one of those Yamaha 100MX dirt bikes. I raced it a few times at Carlsbad raceway when they had CMC races there. Have not seen one of these in almost 45 years. thanks for posting this.
Very cool. I remember racing with you in Northern California in the mid to late 70’s. I was an AMA National number from 1975-1979 when I got hurt and had a spinal injury. I still enjoy bikes from that era. Nice to run into a familiar name....Kim Blackseth
Neat, down-swept expansion chamber with fiberglass arrestor on the stinger. Those old Elsinore gas tanks laying on the parts rack there are aluminum - no rust, it think.
Maaco is my favorite by erase them my whole life I have a garage full of makos my nickname is Michael Bill I'm from Simi valley how to make a shot for 18 years we sponsored five guys that were number one number to Irma pro riders 73 440 makos for my shop Idaho was the top writer love mako bikes
Love the Maaco 490 - I was there when it was first "prophesied" to come out - about 1980, in one of the bike mags. I was 15 and I used to just stare at that bike, every inch of it. My mom thought I was looking at porn - nope, just this pisser red bike that will be here within the year.
Beautiful Collection ! TY for sharing, perhaps you can make a part 2 showing more of the bikes ? Though I'd try to sell you on making a series, where each episode is dedicated to 1 make, maybe 15-20min long . Dirtbiking was my way into street riding & unfortunately I havn;t been in the dirt in yrs ( last time was on my '87 suzuki 450 GL w/a few psi out of the tires & NO jumping,LOL ) TY again & hope to see more from you.
You probably can id this. It says Suzuki on the engine and tank, but I cannot read anything else. I am guessing it is homemade mono shock. I need motor parts. Thanks, Tony evansville.craigslist.org/mcy/d/1975-suzuki-250cc-runs-and/6459961113.html
Great interview, Dave... and an awesome collection! My brother and I really miss watching your excellent skills on the motocross track... and of course miss racing ourselves. Whenever I make my way back to California I should stop by for a visit. Hey, do you have any PowerBar stickers on any of the bikes? Take good care ;-)
Nice collection! I have 10 bikes im fixin up but not the money n time for perfection. I just like to see all my bikes running n close to original. If someone wants to do after i sell em go for it.
I loved the cannondale bikes and atv's. its sad they never got them sorted. my brother had the 440 speed atv that thing was a monster the intake valves were huge
its crazy i had a 1980 maico that was in very very good condition someone took the engine apart and took the piston out and left all the head bolts out its like it was neesingbits first rebuild but the person that ownd it never had the money to fix it and it set in his basement for years
do you have an 86 KX 500? or a 73 Yamaha MX 360 this KX is too tall for me to get on, Its in good cond, and it need's to be started and ridden, Id like to have a bike like a 360 Yammie i can get on and ride and touch my feet on ground, woulld you consider leting go of any of your unredone rider's ,or trade something for this KX? it need's a good home and a caring owner,
Got a new 73 yamaha mx 80 for $325.00 when I was 11 yrs. old. Then it was on to the 73 mx 100 exactly like yours the next year. Bought it used for $275.00 from a neighbor who raced and had gotten into the new (at the time) yz class. Wish I still had it or the 75 Honda CR125 I bought a couple years later.
mark carpenter I was going to ask if his first Yamaha was a MX series. A friend had a 76 MX-175 and the engine looked close to that one. It had a high pipe though
Iam fixing a cr250m elsinore 1978 at this moment Iwill send u the video when I finish it do you have any xr 250?pictures Imean 1979 or 1980 thank u amigo I mean pictures
Why do all these RUclips video's have crappy music? Half the video is looking at this 100 Yamaha while were all salivating to see the good stuff? What about video of the guy restoring the bikes? We all can't be artists.
Hello .I love your collection. .. if you or anyone on here has a honda rc 500 preferably a 86 hrc500 plz email me ide love to at least have some more pictures or even come see it and if its for sell consider it sold .... my dad was given the bike from honda he rode for them back in the 80"s sadly my dad sold the bike years ago... his particular rc500 had gold excell rims and the stator cap was off a stock 500 because he broke his factory one also had procircuit pipe with serial# less then 10 ...
Let’s see your collection. Amateur MXer from 73’ to 81’. Raced Suzuki’s and Maico’s. Road CZ’s, Rotax, Rickman’s, Yamaha’s, Honda’s. Husky’s, Bultaco’s, AJS, Ossa’s, to name a few.
My neighbor had a AJS, I think it was a 360 ? It was fast though, Those were the Days, I rode with all those you mentioned except for the Rickman don't remember that one ?
Love your collection. The Yamaha you show at first is also the same bike I raced as a kid. Wow that takes me back some great times. The second bike, the CZ looks exactly like the one my brother had at the time. Thanks.
Lol I've asked this same question many times lol and there's more things I can't believe were sold ...he just doesn't get attached to things ...he lived knows it and remembers it ...now he's moved on doesnt look back ...on the other hand I get very attached lol I would be buried with that bike if I could
Joy to see so many machines taken care of and displayed. What a treat...!!!
Dave, you are an inspiration to us all. You do amazing work.
Thanks for sharing!! How about another more detailed video of the bikes. Walk around tour maybe?
i keep telling my wife to make space in our living room so I can do this same thing!
Wow what a beautiful collection of vintage moto-cross bikes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ............................................just sayin ......................:)
I had the '72 version of that Yamaha 100, i raced the heck out of it! Was 15yrs old. My friend ran out and bought that '73 version. Back in the day..
I had the 72 100 mx also mine had a dark green tank, it was a screamer revved out at 10,000 rpm. I used to smoke Yam,DTI 250'S On a small track without any long straightaways.

Wonderful collection motocross bikes , only furious machines, !!!!
I'm also working on my father's Yamaha enduro 125. It's running now but not that good.

One of my favorite bikes was a CZ 400 I had in the late 70's that was a beast. Great collection ...
You needed to say a pray when you climbed on that CZ.. Nothing had power like that monster.
You had to go easy when grabbing a handful of throttle for sure. It was the torqueist bike I have ever ridden.
Damn that's so awesome man. My life and job are shit. It's been almost five years and I lost my job of sixteen years due to it shutting down.
