As a carnivore I eat no fiber. I only eat ribeye steak 90% of the time (lamb, salmon and bacon 10%) butter and eggs. Salt and water. It got rid of my diabetes in two months as well as my high blue pressure.
@@barrysieg Insulin resistance causes diabetes and other symptoms of metabolic syndrome. That is caused by chronic high sugar (so long term). This is an extreme. The body is using only carbs as fuel and overloading your body with carbs makes the pancreas unable to cope with all that blood sugar. So this extreme (only carbs for fuel) is "treated" by the other extreme (no carbs at all). This reverses insulin resistance very effectively but in time it leads to leptin resistance. Leptin is the satiety hormone released by the fat cells when they got enough fuel. But eat only meat (so only fat as fuel) and you transition from one extreme (insulin resistance) to the other (leptin resistance) . So short term, carnivore is ideal to reverse insulin resistance, eliminate all the excess sugar from the body. Glucose is hydrophilic, so getting rid of the excess glucose will reduce blood pressure by releasing the extra water trapped inside the blood vessels. Long term carnivore (years) is not great - nutritional deficiencies (potassium, vit C, maybe magnesium and high protein overloads the kidneys with work and uric acid resulted from high purines breakdown. Long story short eat carbs too, just make sure those carbs are natural, full of fiber like most vegetables are and low glycemic index fruits. The carbs to eat shouldn't be refined (pizza, pasta, bread, cereals, biscuits etc) as they have no fiber and no nutrients. Those carbs are the cause of diabetes, not natural carbs.
A carnivore diet won't suit everyone. Also, many of the benefits carnivore dieters claim, can be achieved by having a diet high in protein and fibre, and low in carbs, sugar, and eliminating harmful, processed foods.

Best lecture about metabolism, hands down! I finally have managed to get myself a CGM and it was eye opening, wore it for 2 weeks a month ago. I was asking all these questions i couldn't find answers to: how high of a spike is too much. What exactly should the daily baseline be, etc. Now hearing him say the numbers, finally somebody! (at the very end of the video) I'm thinking yikes, I was far from any of these numbers regarding glucose, more like somewhere in between half way to prediabetic. Kinda shocking for a person who was very athletic and mostly lean through life, except gaining some weight since covid, but still a moderate amount. I can see now that a lot of things slowly started to add up which would have become worse over time. However, I finally pulled the break, motivated to loose some weight, and have started new life and eating habits since a month ago. It was not all that bad before I think, but i have leaky gut, risk for Auto, and the glucose was not as low as it should be (but since it was always just under 100 and with the "normal ranges" i always assumed everything is totally ok!) I've been eating healthy without problem and extended my intermittent fasting window from 14h dramatically to 18, 20, 24 (omad) and even did a 48h last week. And that finally kicked in some weight loss results for me, and i really needed that success boost after a month of patience. I'm a total believer of fasting now and think it might be the only way to sustainably loose weight (female 50, muscular but several pounds too many since covid). I even managed to wean off the damn coke zero and don't crave sweets any more. I'm looking forward to doing another blood test soon and then also want to do another round of cgm monitor and hope that my glucose baseline has improved over last time. 🤞 They should make cmg accessible to everybody in regular stores without the prescription jail and I don't understand why its so challenging to get a fasting insulin test done, it should be a standard parameter in everyone's blood test.

I'm currently wearing a cgm again, 2nd time (it goes for 2 weeks), and it was eye opening again. I had expected better results honestly. If i ate too many carbs it would basically hangover into the next day increasing the baseline, with lots of ups and downs after the meal. I was already having 18+ hr fasts and clean eating and it showed me it's not enough, i need to eat more keto like, reduce the carb load

Based on the info and various podcasts by Dr Lustig I have reduced my carbs significantly and it feels great. Bloodmarkers like Triglyceride are great and further reduced since last year. I'm now 66 and looking forward to continue like this. I discussed the info by Dr, Lustig with my doctor during the annual check and I hope this info will be advertised more and more. There's a long way to go.

As a carnivore I don't eat fibre. DR Berry, Zoe harcombe, and others have said we don't need fibre and veg have little nutritional value and you can't digest it. I had IBS when eating a standard diet eating fibre since going carnivore. I've not had IBS and other health issues have resolved themselves
Yes, 2-3 weeks into mostly carnivore and IBS is gone, been doing it for a year. I eat a small quantity of pineapple or berries so yes some fiber+ 2-3 pieces of homemade chocolate with raw honey after my 2 meals and feeling good. This way of eating is very satisfactory.

No. What is important is the HDL and triglycerides. HDL over 50, triglycerides less than 100. You meet both of these criteria. you're doing well. No to statens
According to a few giant studies that have come out recently, you have a lower mortality risk than someone with "desireable" LDL. The study also showed that people with a better HDL to triglyceride ratio also had a lower mortality risk. My father in his 70s is an animal with hiking, blasts out 1000 calories a day on a stair mill/spin classes. He listened to his doctor and started taking statins 2 years ago. I have never seen him age so much than the last 2 years(which he even admits).. loss of muscle... also he now seems to be prone to blacking out when exercising like he normally does.. or even when spending a day at Disney with the grandchildren in the hot sun. Never had that before he started taking statins.. just food for thought. Also probably unrelated, but he out of nowhere became allergic to bees in the last 2 years too. That one is probably a coincidence though.

A great lecture!!! But! Re saturated fats and dietary fats being “neutral” for cardiovascular health: liponephrotoxicity (aka renal lipotoxicity) is a very important factor. You can’t preserve CV health without healthy kidneys. So, not neutral at all.
Grateful & thankful for your informative teachings, Dr Lustiq. I’ve a question on ingesting fibre as fibre will cause me intestinal obstruction. I’ve had 5 abdominal surgeries over the years and the scar tissues is the cause. Surgeon asked that I avoid fibre. What can I do?
How old is this video? There are a number of things that he talks about that have long since been proven different, wrong or limited in scope. For example fiber. There is no amount of fiber that is essential. It's either not digested, or digested into something that isn't good for humans. It is one of the contributing factors in IBS and colon cancer.
Love anything by Dr. Lustig! I am completely confused though about the low leucine foods. When I look up low leucine foods it lists fruits and that’s about it. Would love some thoughts on this!

As a carnivore I don't eat fibre. DR Berry, Zoe harcombe, and others have said we don't need fibre and veg have little nutritional value and you can't digest it. I had IBS when eating a standard diet eating fibre since going carnivore. I've not had IBS and other health issues have resolved themselves
Yes, 2-3 weeks into mostly carnivore and IBS is gone, been doing it for a year. I eat a small quantity of pineapple or berries so yes some fiber+ 2-3 pieces of homemade chocolate with raw honey after my 2 meals and feeling good. This way of eating is very satisfactory.

No. What is important is the HDL and triglycerides. HDL over 50, triglycerides less than 100. You meet both of these criteria. you're doing well. No to statens
According to a few giant studies that have come out recently, you have a lower mortality risk than someone with "desireable" LDL. The study also showed that people with a better HDL to triglyceride ratio also had a lower mortality risk.
My father in his 70s is an animal with hiking, blasts out 1000 calories a day on a stair mill/spin classes. He listened to his doctor and started taking statins 2 years ago. I have never seen him age so much than the last 2 years(which he even admits).. loss of muscle... also he now seems to be prone to blacking out when exercising like he normally does.. or even when spending a day at Disney with the grandchildren in the hot sun. Never had that before he started taking statins.. just food for thought. Also probably unrelated, but he out of nowhere became allergic to bees in the last 2 years too. That one is probably a coincidence though.

I've been battling reactive hypoglycemia since I was a young teenager, doctor told me I had it when I was 16. I am now 59 (60 in February). I'd really like to get this under control. A great lecture!!! But! Re saturated fats and dietary fats being “neutral” for cardiovascular health: liponephrotoxicity (aka renal lipotoxicity) is a very important factor. You can’t preserve CV health without healthy kidneys. So, not neutral at all.
Grateful & thankful for your informative teachings, Dr Lustiq. I’ve a question on ingesting fibre as fibre will cause me intestinal obstruction. I’ve had 5 abdominal surgeries over the years and the scar tissues is the cause. Surgeon asked that I avoid fibre. What can I do?
How old is this video? There are a number of things that he talks about that have long since been proven different, wrong or limited in scope. For example fiber. There is no amount of fiber that is essential. It's either not digested, or digested into something that isn't good for humans. It is one of the contributing factors in IBS and colon cancer.

Love anything by Dr. Lustig! I am completely confused though about the low leucine foods. When I look up low leucine foods it lists fruits and that’s about it. Would love some thoughts on this!
