Plus this is quite a competitive area of business. Though sales margin has been relatively high. It is like EV drivers would not care about gas being $12 per gallon (if they would use gas).

In the UK, 30% of households don’t have the ability to charge at home, so the market here will never be as big as the petrol station market. It will always be a mix of home, destination (work etc.) and public charging and Tesla Superchargers will only be a percentage of that last category, even if they open all of them to non-Teslas.
It may be different in other countries, but I think we’re over-egging the profits this will generate, there will be lots of competition, certainly in Europe.

@@ISuperTedit is actually higher then that. pro EV people will bang on about 70% of people have off road parking. Well I have off road parking, a designated parking bay the other side of the road from my 1st floor flat. However as I have off road parking then I am part of that 70% that have off road parking even though no access to home charging.
What is the worst thing is that nobody is working on how to overcome this and is only 11 years away, with the less well off people having to pay more for there EV mileage as only access commercial charging vs home charging.
Is one of the reason why get the charge against them of being rich peoples toys. Yes the purchase price of the EV is coming down but not at the commercial charging points.
Local superstore is 44p a kWh on a 7kw charger. Octopus EV tariff current,y 7.5p or 6 times cheaper.
Renault austral self charging hybrid 600mile range (yes I do get that not the claimed 680) at 39995 vs 54k for a model y long range. That 14k pays a lot of fuel and servicing.
If I could home charge then 95% of motoring could do from home and back without needing to charge away from home amd would have an EV now rather then. Self charging hybrid.
If someone comes up with a solution to allow apartments/flats to home charge that will be the real breakthrough in EV adoption.

@@mikapeltokorpi7671 plus manufacturing chargers can be scaled and automated like cars but building a charging network means also buying/ leasing, maintaining.
it's a longer term business since you need years to get ROI vs pumping cars from a factory, that are already reserved with near 100% to deliver cars within weeks after manufacturing (with tesla lean management).
when it comes to covering loosely populated areas land is not expensive but they are still building chargers at a loss to allow Teslas to drive anywhere.
once Tesla considers all major roads are covered they may start to think about the quality of the locations rather than pure quantity. ideally a charge is located on cheap land, with easy access to high power lines, cheap electricity, a lot of EV traffic but spread as evenly as possible over time. locations that r'have high peaks of usage on rare occasions (holiday seasons) but very low occupancy the rest of the year are not the best investment.

Keep in mind a gas car at 30 miles per gallon and $3 per gallon is 10 cents per mile. An EV paying more than 40 cents per KWH is equal to this. Hopefully they understand this when pricing per KWH. ( even charging at home, Duke energy claims we are paying 13.4 cents per KWH but in actuality we are paying about 18 cents per KWH when you add in the basic customer charge, the energy charge, the renewable energy rider, and sales tax. ) ( That equals about $5K savings of using an EV over 100000 miles, not including extra tax paid on EV during yearly registration ) Maybe a little more savings on EV if you consider oil changes on the ICE car.

To be honest I have only used a public charger once in ten years and it was a free charger which is also the case for the majority of EV owners I know since most charge at their homes/apartments using the free courtesy charger that comes with the car. Tesla won't be earning that 10 billion from most of the folks I know driving EV's.
Joe and Jane Average will find most of the time they won't need to use a Public Charger with many having no need for years to come so these charging network fears many hype up aren't that real for that large a crowd of drivers.
I tend to take some analysts reports with a grain of salt since many say outrageous things. Just today one analyst put out that Fisker's problems are due to lack of price parity between EV's, Hybrids and ICE vehicles resulting in EV sales declines which has been well proven to be untrue yet that is what the investment community is being told by these "Analysts"
Tesla turning on the switch is indeed good news for drivers venturing out of range of home along with good business for Tesla though not every EV driver will need it very often.
    Best!

additional revenue will speed up charging network expansion, so having few extra cars there will not be as big an issue as people think. The most we've ever had to wait has been 3 to 4 minutes, and that's only been twice in 6 years.
