    Omg, this is my favorite movie, I loved Lauryn Hill so much in this! She introduced me to runs when I was a little kid, the run on "awaaaaaay" 8:22 made me rewind the VHS-tape for hrs and hrs I was soo in love with her entire tone, vibrato and agility. Just sad that she never again right out sang like this ever again. The songs on her album were all more mellow.. it was a great album, but I missed epic uptempo songs like this one where she could adlib over

    Love this analysis, the choir sounded amazing. The vocal quartet section at @5:39 has always been my favorite part of the movie. You sounded great singing that section. For years I've been trying to find out which woman sang which harmony part.
    I saw that Monica Calhoun (3rd from the left) wrote on an IG post that the producer/arranger of this, Mervyn Warren (from the group Take 6), had her sing the 1st soprano part with Tonya Blount (2nd from the left).
    I asked Dionna online (1st from the left) and she didn't remember what part she sung lol.
    I even asked Mervyn Warren online and he showed me the original sheet music for that section but it just had the notes & he didn't remember who sung what.
    Lastly, some guy online wrote that it's actually Tonya Blount singing that whole 3 part harmony section alone. Tbh, I'm thinking he might be right 'cause the vocal tones for that section all sound like her. So who knows😤😂.

    • @Justbest85

      If you listen closely, you can hear individual voices (not just Tonya). You can even hear Lauryn mid.

    • @JamaicanFlava
      @JamaicanFlava Год назад +2

      @@Justbest85 Actually, I think that whole section was done by Tanya alone. I listened closely & the vocal tones for each harmony part sounded like Tanya. If anybody else sung the parts than I think the engineers turned their vocals all the way down lol.

    You can't imagine me as a young kid who just lost his grandmother. I was devastated beyond console, and I go to see the movie with my mom Sister Act 2 a long with my uncle. I tell you this when I heard Mrs. Lauryn Hill sing Eyes on The Sparrow I fell in love with her instantaneously. The most beautiful voice I had ever heard. The rest is history. Lauryn is absolutely stunning she's the whole package with immense talent to boot. Regardless of her tarnished; and yes I say tarnished because she said it herself in her music, name and reputation. I believe to this day my grandmother sent her to me as a gift of guiding hope in the midst of my sadness. Thank you Jaron 😊 I may be a gay man destined for eternal doom. But Lauryn Hill saved me from eternal misery and through his work God sent me an angel. Amen

    People forget and kids born in the 90s probably don't know that Lauryn Hill had one of the most effortless voices ever, almost Whitney Houston-like, which for me is the benchmark for female vocalists. She could belt out a perfect, incredible range of vocals without looking like she was straining or working hard to achieve them. I'm a bass, so I was screwed from the get go. As a guy, I knew male vocalists had to at best be low tenors or they weren't getting anywhere. Freddie Mercury I seem to remember was a baritone naturally, but he had such a ridiculous range that it didn't matter. Elvis as well, but again, same story. I remember in choir one day, the teacher had us in the bass section do a song entirely in false. It was brutal. I'm pretty sure we cracked some glass windows that day. It's so sad what happened to Ms. Hill. Used by a lot of guys in the industry, and for very understandable reasons, disappeared. If I went through all that, I wouldn't want to remember that time in my life either. I've heard her recently, and while I'm sure her vocal chords have been damaged by various things, she still sounded good. Tanya Blount and Ryan Toby are exceptional too. When I saw City High in 2000, I immediately recognized the voice.

    I know this is like random, AF, but do you do reviews of others that perform Classical music. I love hearing about the breakdown for these classical pieces as they have always resonated with with so many people and made them feel something. So I was wondering if they made you feel anything while they were played?
