Not a son, but a daughter. My father died when I was 17. He bravely fought pancreatic cancer for three short months. It was so quick. That was thirty years ago and I miss him and mourn for him like it was just yesterday. "I know your mistakes, and you know mine." omg that hits so hard.
I also lost my father to pancreatic cancer when I was 19. He was diagnosed my senior year in high school and given 4 months to live. He survived almost a full year after being diagnosed. I know my family was one of the fortunate ones when it comes to pancreatic cancer. I’ve heard so many stories of how quick it is for other families. Breaks my heart that you (and others) didn’t get more time. I’m 41 now and hearing this song for the first time. It’s simply fantastic and embodies every emotion I felt at that time in my life. It was his goodbye song to his father, who was dying from kidney disease and they could not find a donor who matched his father. Because of this video, a distant relative came forward to be tested and matched. James's father is alive because of this goodbye song, so there are so many more emotions added to the ones we felt during the song.
DAMN! I shouldn't have watched this today. I lost my dad to Alzheimer's 7 years ago. Today was (would have been) his birthday. As his main caregiver I chased many monsters away and there were many moments that seemed like good-bye. A very long good-bye.

Iam Tongi won American Idol last night based on this song,he sung it for his auditions and sang it with James Blunt last night when he won American Idol,18 year old teenager from Hawaii,his dad did die,in my opinion sings it better

When my dad died I just went straight to work and tried to act as if nothing was different, then one day in the warehouse this song came on and I broke down.. I don't care how hard, brave or cool people think they are this song should get you emotional everytime.
