What's happening at the Wedge? That's a question I get asked on a daily basis and the answer is pretty simple, show up and find out. The conditions at the Wedge are pretty fickle and believing the forecasts that really that aren't that reliable is a good way to waste your gas money.
This day was a perfect example of how the waves at the Wedge work. Stroll up at first light expecting to see waves crashing on the beach since the forecast was a solid 6' to 8'. The first sign the forecast was off was the fact that I didn't hear any the waves crashing from the street, a normal characteristic on a solid day. As I walked up the sand, there were a few people standing on the berm with no intentions of getting suited up, another bad sign. Sure enough, the Wedge was lake pacific at first light and remained that way for a couple hours.
The first signs of the Wedge waking up was a couple hours after first light and within 30 minutes some of the best skimboarders in the world and some of the best local surfers where in the water catching some of the best sider waves I've seen at the wedge in years! Here's a look at what happened that day with special thanks to the following athletes for putting on one heck of a show for the couple people that stuck around long enough to see the wedge come alive.
Johnny Weber
Chad Wadsworth
Dane Cameron
Dawson Tyler
That was super impressive, I had to watch it twice. That is one amazing break and to watch those pros making it look easy is a real treat. Thanks for sharing this!
Glad you enjoyed it and thank you for the feedback!
From SA.This is really spectacular some really hot wave skim boarding on another level.Shout out to all you skimmers.Rad!
A few of the top skimboarders in the world!!!!
You know that we say this every year. Best and biggest swell in ten years. Every year we say this. Or , best session of my life .
We have short memories :)
Those are some odd breakers! It's very interesting how they start off knee-level and rise to skyscraper size heights!!! They also look extremely dangerous. I have never seen breakers so tall crashing directly onto the sand with limb-breaking force!!!
That's the perfect description for the wedge and why people come from all over the world to surf it.
I haven’t seen anybody push it that hard in a long time. Good job.
Def some chargers!!!!
You have to upload more. This is insane.
TY!
Falling from the lip to sand makes my Tant hurt
