- Boys and Girls,
For those that didn't take my advice to pick up a now discontinued Fe$tool VAC$Y$, here is a POC (Proof Of Concept) using a much cheaper GRABO.
Just to rub it in, the leader of the video is to demonstrate what you will be missing out on.
Amongst many other uses for a GRABO, with a bit of engineering this could become a handy addition to your daily workshop use. It is irreplaceable for holding odd shaped pieces with a flat side(s).
The main downside I can see is that it's not much good for less than 19mm MDF... it's too porous... though HDF and other thin ply materials are OK.
Maybe, jes maybe it’s the suit yer wearing?!!?
But seriously, hellofa good demo/idea. Dude - right on!
Thanks for the video. I’ve been wondering what others have done with grabbo.
I use it with a suction plate made out of doubled up Perspex which is airtight. And use hoses attached to festo and Schmalz suction cups of various sizes which I’ve attached to modified Ujk/tso bench dogs with the m8 thread. Allowing me to connect the hoses from beneath my bench. Really is a game changer.
Thanks Sunshine... Been trying to make my own with limited success... Didn't know about Festo or Schmaltz products... I'm just an ignorant "schmaltz'.
Sent email to supplier about connecting to a Nitto air system... their add didn't say much.
First of all, I enjoy your videos! 2nd I haven't purchased a Festool product since they abandoned the Vac Sys customers! I invested heavily in the Vac Sys and love it, but Festool didn't care about the Vac Sys customers at least in the USA. I would guess they are done worldwide when inventory is gone. AND what is really frustrating is I can't get a straight answer from Festool as to why they discontinued. I won't support companies that leave me stuck with high priced obsolescence! And won't give me straight answers as to why. If it was volume, well they could have expanded the market by coming up with a vacuum bag clamping that could be added to the system. Then could be used two ways!
The word I got from our local Fe$tool guy was that because of the price, there just wasn't the demand for it. It is good but I don't believe there was enough promotion as there are many that just didn't know about them and people that own one just swear by it. One good thing the rep said was that they will continue to support it (spares).
Basically here in Australia the two clamps and the pump don't give much change out of $4.5K and when you add the extra heads it does become a tad out of the reach of the frugal and the sane.
At least for those that missed out, you can fabricate your own if you're mechanically inclined or use a GRABO to at least simulate... Furthermore, the GRABO has many other uses.... I use it extensively for moving sheet goods around and even pavers that are hard to grab hold of.
I'm used to this as I love hot food... as soon as it's introduced to a supermarket I usually get hooked... however, if it's really hot, I get addicted, but others can't stand the heat so they get dropped off the shelf. Unfortunately its a world of supply meets demand rather than the other way around.
Nice demo and a much cheaper system than Festool.
Yes cheaper, but only a poor substitute... For those that didn't get a VAC-SYS while available might promote the poor substitute to a tad better than poor substitute.
