For whoever doesnt get the clue yet, I'm pretty sure the name of this song being "Venus" (roman goddess of love) is enough to connect the fact that she's dancing with girls only, and the gestures she's making make me think of a religious ritual in honor to venus. So basically, the performance is based on the idea of the song being the offering to the goddess of love, her being the priestess.
I'm thinking it's more than that, and while that is the basis, I think there are more layers. I think it's also developing a story about someone being crazy in love, emphasis on crazy. They're obsessed and wondering "could this be love" and throughout the performance Gaga changes her facial expressions and really everything about the performance to be weirder and freakier. Venus being a symbol of that obsession of course

I love how after all the dancing and singing, she still finds time to join on guitar. I also think the dance routine was great for having such a limited amount of stage space. Such an awesome performer she is.
I think that people are put off by the lack of expensive sets and smoke & mirrors. This album is soul bearing, so I believe its necessary to take some of those flashy things away so we can truly appreciate the artistry and hard work put into the album. And considering she had hip surgery it's a miracle she can even move like that on stage. So good for her!
These performances are much better than her Born This Way era, in my opinion. Think, the music is catchier, lyrically the music is more powerful, deeper, layer-ful melodies, and the performances are so genuine. The theatrics are still there, but this is a very stripped down, raw version of Gaga that we've never been able to see before. Her music may not top the charts this year in every circumstance, but we can see that she is alright with that. She's happy, and she Artpop is a true celebration of so many emotions. Very real, I love it.

I don't understand where all of the hate for this performance is coming from. A lot of you comparing this to her older performances, you need to realize: your enjoyment of something shouldn't be on a basis of relativism or comparison, but, rather, on a case by case basis. Each performance is different and has something different to offer. Sure, this performance isn't like her 2009 VMA performance, but it isn't meant to be. It's the type of performance Gaga saw fitting for this particular song, but, I, personally, found it to be quite effective (albeit, I was a bit deterred by the guitar initially). The simplicity and the sheer ecstasy of the performance is exactly how the song makes me feel.
