    I did this job on my 1988 mustang gt back in 1993.I bought the car new in 1988. When I did this job by the manual I had , the car only had 24,000 miles on it. Anyway I took my time ,and it is done exactly the way you did it however , I took a couple afternoons in my spare time to reassemble everything. It came out so perfect ,it looked like I never touched the car. I will tell you for neither love nor money , I will never attempt that job again . My friend I worked with had a Ford Fairmont wagon with the same problem, and he stated the same thing. Never again. His job came out great also. When I found out how easy a non air conditioned fox body car was to change the core , I just about flipped .Great video. Been there ,done that , and never again. Stay safe....

      i had a 1980 mustang and the heater core was behind the glove box below the evaporator core requiring it to be taken out after discharging the A/C and putting it back and re-charging the A/C afterwards

    I would also recommend a new flow restrictor in the heater core hose to prevent the heater core from getting to much pressure and prematurely failing.

    • @garysmith2501
      @garysmith2501 3 года назад +1

      I agree, I used a small socket 10 - 11mm I believe, works just the same. I think the restrictors were installed in the patrol cars also.

    • @dntlss
      @dntlss 3 года назад +1

      Words of wisdom right there,Probably the most important thing unless one wants to do this job all over again,lol, this system was not very well designed,even with the restrictor they still fail,romping on the car before the thermostat opens is really bad too for the ole heater core also,i think they should make a heater core thats a little more stoutly built but i have read this doesn't only happen to these cars,other makers too.

    After watching this video, the engineer(s) that designed this should’ve been mandated to install one themselves before it left the prototype floor. There’s gotta be a better way to design this. Ridiculous. 🙄

      Lot of cars are like this, not just these Mustangs,Ive done several different cars and its about the same but yes, you are right,they should do several not just one so they can experience the pain firsthand,they should have positioned it vertically with a trapdoor on the bottom of sorts,im sure it could be done, kinda like cabin filters.
