ATSF 560 Debut at SCRM 01/20/24

- Santa Fe Fairbanks Morse H12-044 560 makes its restoration debut with a crisp Zebra Stripe paint job. ATSF FP45 108 provided back-up power and was pulled dead-in-tow for most of the day. Was a treat to see an FM opposed-piston engine powered locomotive run for the first time in a while despite the rain.

ATSF #560 is back. It took them 3 years to finish up the #560 restoration project but it was worth it. The old FM H12-44 is once again operational. It once again wears it's as delivered Zebra stripe livery. The old girl looks nice.
F-M has historically been privately owned (no stock) and is still in business--selling Alco 251 engines! Two of them propel the giant Cape Canaveral launch transporter.

I remember as a kid riding my bicycle to the Soo Line Humbolt yard and watching FM's switch cars.
Assuming the Navy 8 still runs, this means SCRM has working diesels from EMD, GE, Baldwin, FM, and Alco!

It’s nice to see a otherwise obscure diesel locomotive getting attention like this since I think diesel traction is often times overlooked when compared to the widespread coverage that steam locomotive preservation has. I’m a huge fan of steamers Don’t get me wrong (especially streamliners and late steam era designs) but I have been just as much of a fan of diesel locomotives for even longer as I grew up hearing diesel horns in the distance from my house whenever I was in bed at night.

These passengers car are from Montreal ( AMT ) Agence Métropolitaine de Transport , QC Canada, i work with it as a Conductor on the commuters train. Built and operated by Canadian Pacific.
I put the last string of cars for departure to US 🇺🇸 in the Lachine IMS yard in 2005 . Im happy to see they’re still in good hand .
Turns out I'm not the only one who noticed those cars were originally owned by AMT (now Exo).
Probably a good thing SF 560 won't be operated on a regular basis. Otherwise that beautiful paint job will just get oily and dirty. Can't wait to visit SCRM and see it.
