Howdy folks! Thanks for watching! Have you played the Brothers in Arms series? If so what was your favorite? Hoping all is well! (Edit 3/15/24): If you enjoyed this Forgotten Classic Video, check out the next one in the series, It covers another Ubisoft game, Splinter Cell. I'm suprised you got through the game rusing head on in some of thoes situations xD I'm glad you did make it through though! The game is a crazy challenge on the hardest difficulty if you don't allow yourself to lose any squad members. "Favourite" is not the word i would describe the Dead Mans Corner part, but man that hit me hard when I played it first time, and the Purple Heart Lane bridge scene. They really got the athmosphere right, Earned in Blood also has the same gritty Normandy feel. As you said in the beginning i can imagine how awesome a new Brothers in Arms game would be today with the techonlogy to tell the story of the Battle of The Bulge. I could go on for ages about this game. Thx for making the review! p.s. WW2TV has many episodes on the Normandy landings, the host "Woody" is a guide and Normandy expert living in Normandy. They did a great episode on the Purple Heart Lane (mentions Coles Charge for instance) and the Dead Mans Corner episode is extremley intresting if you have played this game. I post link: ruclips.net/video/QbwnoFN8NyA/видео.html
Definitely play the other two. It just carries on with an amazing story. Earned in Blood is hands down the best in my opinion. That was the first one I played and when I got old enough to appreciate what Earned in Blood was doing, I played Road to Hill 30 and Hell's Highway. Then I played all three of them in order all over again to connect the story and it is just such an amazing series and story to go with it. On top of all of this there are rumors of a fourth, and legit, Brother in Arms game in the making. Knowing the history of the 101st Airborne, there is still Bastone to fight through.
@@smicasifyIt is planned, and will take some time since there are some other projects I'm working on that will come out before the next BiA. Very much looking forward to it!
I cannot wait to play all of this series and make a series of it too ( pardon the pun) I’m glad to see there are people that still remember this franchise fondly! What was your favorite?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios You should defenetley play Earned in Blood, they tidy up the mechanics a bit and it has some great missions. Still a very difficult game, be aware of mortars.
Mighta been hells highway actually it was the older one I played it on Xbox the newer one was just as good though imo but the first one was the first time I had gotten that into a game so that’s what I liked best for sure
I can't wait to play, going through earned in blood right now, not as good as this, but I've heard nothing but amazing things about Hell's Highway, so that has me motivated! Thanks for stopping by!
A little more context about the poles mission: These were part of the Atlantic Wall defenses set up by the Germans to prevent airborne operations. They were called Rommelspargel (or Rommel's Asparagus). Albeit their use was extensive, casualties due to them were actually quite low. But yeah, it a trip down nostalgia lane. Shame that Ubisoft never gave it any love
Absolutely fascinating! Thank you so much! It’s beyond interesting to learn these little stories in history, especially world war 2; these “small” moments add up and created our world today. Thank you so much for your comment! I truly appreciate it!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Dog dad - just wanted to add, the point of Rommelspargel was to break up and destroy gliders landing on farm fields and other open areas. They were meant to cause casualties among the glider units that the Germans knew were ultimately headed for Normandy. I'm sure the mission is based around removing the poles so that more gliderborne troops and equipment could be landed. Gliders were more or less the parachute infantry's way of landing heavier equipment like jeeps and howitzers (and resupplies). You are clearing the way for reinforcements and resupplies.
Ex Army Scout here, I had never heard of these either but when I saw they were put out in large open fields, I figured they might be used to deny landing spots. a good idea but that’s a tall order to cover a country in them. The amount of Glider troops delivered during WW2 was pretty significant. Famous stories like “A Bridge Too Far” was a unit delivered to the battle by glider. By their nature they were lightly equipped soldiers so running headlong into a heavy armor division was a death sentence. Anyone who was enlisted and ever played the Army’s version of Arma(it’s developed by B.I. But isn’t technically Arma.) it was used to simulate how to command troops and react to certain scenarios. It was Super fun and really a good training tool. They had big full 3d projector rooms with full size Humvees in them, which was a good way to train vehicle crews on various things like react to contact, clearing an ambush, ied etc. The person handling the training would occasionally throw curve balls at you like, wounding a soldier, blowing up or damaging a vehicle. I remember holding off an enemy ambush, having my hoes push right while I and my saw gunner suppressed. Then out of nowhere we get hammered with mortars and a fucking technical showed up. It was a good way to keep you on your toes and teach you to adapt and overcome no matter what. So when I see sone big ass poles in a field blocking off landing spots for re-enforcements, my Scout brain says, “wrap them in Det cord and, cut them shits down! The “Asparagus poles” are such a basic solution but also really a good deterrent to glider re-enforcement. Neat piece of history, that gets overlooked!
@@Ol_Durty_Badger Also wanted to add that irl, the Rommelspargel were meant to be booby trapped, but due to time constraints and overall supply situation in 1944. But, imagine if Rommel was still in command for the second phase of the Normandy campaign, things would not be as smooth sailing, or another Kesselring. Just goes to show high the bar was back then for video game realism and how far it has fallen...
At the end of BIA Hells Highway or BIA earned in Blood is a teaser for the story to be continued in the Ardennes Battle. Im still waiting for that game to be made. Great Video man! :)
Honestly knowing what unreal 5 is and knowing Ubisoft can make good games, I would love to see this! Sad it’s another video game cliff hangar, but do we play for the ending or for the journey? Thanks so much for your comment, truly appreciated!
This series is one of my all time favorites! I was 12 when this game came out and my parents let me play it because it was so steeped in the history. Because of this game, I was able to connect with so many WWII veterans that I grew up around and better understand what they went through. They always seemed to appreciate a kid that was curious of their experiences. I learned so much while going through all the historical extras that you unlock that what the veterans talked about made so much more sense since I’d seen aerial photos and virtually walked around these places. Plus the local multiplayer modes in this and Earned in Blood are great! Each player gets to command squads and have reinforcements while tasked with assaulting or defending an objective.
Thank you so much for sharing this memory! This is one of the coolest experiences I've had in my life, hearing about everyone's personal lived experiences with this game. I'm so glad this video is bringing all this good nostalgia! That's truly amazing, and having interest in history is having interest in people. Everyone has a history, and I'm so glad people can get excited about it! Can't wait to play the series! Stay tuned!
It wasn't until I had a partner that didn't grow up playing videogames that I realised how much I'd learnt from them, particularly war games, and of all of them especially Brothers In Arms made me connect to the historical reality these things were based on.
Brothers in arms, LA Noire, World at War and Spec ops the line are the best war games they actually treat war as something traumatic and awful instead of just using war as medium to do cool video game stuff and because of that distinct humanity make them the most refreshing and memorable games ever.
Absolutely, whether that’s in the theater of war or its traumatic aftermath, war is hell, and has effected billions over the centuries. I’m so glad that video games can talk about these topics without hurting anyone. It’s not real, but if it can evoke real emotions, then the game has done its job, at least in my eyes. All the best
yeah its not a shooter but its set in 1947 and most of the main characters are veterans and the pain and horror of that drives the main plot just like the other games above its art imitating life in a way that is rarely seen in most video games. I miss games that can use their platform as art to tell difficult to downright terrible stories in a humanizing way instead of most games which due to the difficulty of making video games usually just try to make a profit that is fun too.
Thank you for commenting, I understand that completely, I have a game franchise similar in that regard : ), hope all is well and that we see those games someday!
Well we do have a sub Reddit and a discord server where we occasionally post news and talk about things regarding the game...so just recently we asked Randy pitchford about the New entry and he confirmed it is in development...to be clear we did know it but then layoffs and drama around gearbox came and for sure out of everything we thought they cancelled but his confirmation was recently
This was literally my first shooter. I never finished it, and to this day, I still find the game too difficult (not helped by my PS controllers always seeming to break, no matter where I buy from and how gentle I am), but I love it all the same. Matt Baker was my hero for a while, and that game was a big reason I was so into WWII history as a kid and why I love it today. A nice detail that I loved was how the game's manual is written like it's a soldier's notebook, including crude sketches of the guns in the game, and being an artist, that is a big reason I started drawing guns specifically. I even now own some of the guns in the game too, which is cool (some rechambered, some original, and some airsoft, but still fun). I will never forget this game and its amazing intro, characters, atmosphere, and painful yet enrapturing gameplay. The only other game in the series I've played is Hell's Highway, which I bought shortly after it came out while looking through an EB Games. That game, I have finished, and replayed recently, and it holds up well.
I cannot put into words the thanks I’m giving for you taking the time to write this. Thank you so so much for sharing and honestly, you and the whole community that played this game are amazing. Everyone has these little nuggets of information, and I’m glad to see that people aren’t forgetting
My Uncle's father was in WWII in the Navy on the USS California at Saipan first Uncle in Germany post VE Day with the Signal Corps, My friends August Caccavone and Eugene Iconetti fought in the Battle Of The Bulge and Saipan and on Iwo Jima because Gene saw the flag raising on Mt Surabachi and turned 100 last year
My dad came home from Iraq and I had turned 5 and he brought back a Fat PS2 and a few games. BIA RTH30 and Earned in Blood were what I was playing at 5. The hand being blown apart was gruesome lol. Played Star Wars battlefront at that time and got SWBF2 my next birthday. Great gaming childhood
Thank you so much for sharing this memory! I truly appreciate that. I hope everything is well with you and your family. Thank you to your father for his service.
Played all three of the series. Hells highway went above from the previous two. They were supposed to do the battle of the bulge. I guess ubisoft halted production after hells highway.
I cannot wait to play. Honestly my Fiance just told me that she'll be out on Friday and Saturday til midday; so I might just get comfy and play through Earned In Blood. Looking forward to Hells Highway, looked great from the images I saw. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment, truly appreciate it!
Gearbox was actually working on another Brothers in Arms called Furious 4 (trailer might still be here on RUclips) but cancelled it because of the reaction it got from fans. It was far less realistic and a lot more comical/character based with abilities for each character. Kinda glad they didn’t go that route and tarnish the franchise.
I absolutely agree, it brings the sense the sense of devastation to another level because it's never over the top, just the right amount. Just so well paced and directed.
It really makes the game feel heavy in a way that I haven't felt a lot in gaming over the last 25 years, which is always cool. Thanks for taking the time!
"i never asked to be squad leader" Hell yeah! Its so cool to see videos like this about the series, i got into ww2 history because of brothers in arms, world war 2 era COD and medal of honor back in the 6th gen days and it really brought back alot of memories by watching this video Hope you enjoyed what you played man!
Howdy! Thanks for commenting! What a great line! Thank you so much for sharing that, I'm glad the game had that effect on you, and the video helped remember those good old memories. I enjoyed the game very much and look forward to playing the series. Hope all is well!
We can only hope! Crossing my fingers, even a remaster of Medal of Honor would be insane, and of course Brothers in Arms in unreal 5.0 would be out of this world!!
Medal of Honor Pacific assault has been applauded by historians for being the most accurate game of the mall both historically and gameplay wise. And yet its the one game that never got a sequel.
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Yes and it was amazing go look up the brothers in arms 2 global front Iphone cinematic intro on youtube it’s very nostalgic for me and pretty hard hitting
@@ivandeskita996 ill watch it later today! Just got into the chair for some Pacific Drive. Thank you so much for sharing this memory with me! I think sharing these experiences is a way to come back from the other side of social media. Memories around video games are wholesome ( or retrospectively funny) hope all is well!
Great video for a great game. Havent played it in years but can still remember most of the squad names and the sound of that M1 Garand is going to be ingrained in my brain forever.
I’d drop everything for a sequel to this in todays graphics engine. Even a remaster of all the titles. Most fun I had in the early 2000s. Replaying these over and over. You should do a series and play through all of them. They’re good! Better Even!
If I ever make it to the point where I have people working for me on a game, I will focus a game on WW2 with these types of mechanics. Thank you so much for commenting and sharing your memory, I truly appreciate it! I'm going to do a series, but it'll take a little bit since there is some other content I'm working on at the moment. Stay tuned, shouldn't be more than a week or 2. All the best, DD studios
I remember playing this game on my dad's pc back around the time this game came out. I would play through it countless times. I even bought Hell's Highway earlier this week because ubisoft has a sale going on. I started watching this video and decided to buy the other two even though I own them all on physical CD's lmao. I love the assault on the farmhouse mission with Cole's speech: "If it moves, shoot it. If it screams in German, shoot it again"
Thank you so much for sharing this memory! These gaming memories are so powerful for people. I really appreciate you sharing it : )! The sale was perfect and I hope they can see there is still a base for this franchise! Hope all is well!
I grew up loving this series so to hear younger people talk fondly about it makes me very happy. Thank you. Also, Matt Baker is voiced by Troy Baker is the voice of many, many characters
Thank you so much for both your comments! I truly appreciate it! I’m thankful that something I made had that effect, that’s a special feeling I won’t forget. Oh it was like a slap in the face when I realized why he sounded so familiar ahah! I will definitely talk about it on the Hells Highway video. Thanks again for commenting, hope all is well!
This is just extremely well done. Been playing these games since I was 7, 20 years later and they're still just as good as before. On top of a creator like you who just seems to hit the nail on the head with this game. Keep it up, look forward to Earned in Blood/Hell's Highway.
I really appreciate this! Thank you so much for taking the time to write this. In the process of earned in blood and already I miss baker, hope all is well!
The extras in this game are great, best I've ever seen in any game. That makes this one my favorite. The rest are fine but they're very gamelike in comparison, this first game feels special. I especially love the fact that you can't kill enemies head on, you can only suppress them. Makes the fighting feel something else when you can't just snipe everyone one by one.
Absolutely loved this game. Had it on the original xbox. Got the game and the limited edition steel box dvd (making of) with post cards and a booklet. The stuart tank on the game was actually a real account of what happed and was knocked out. Randy pitchford was involved in the making of these games and went on to help make the borderlands franchise. Plus colonel john antal was involved in the making of road to hill 30. I have still got the steel box limited edition dvd. Almost 55 years old and still gaming. And to be honest nothing really came close to these games. Definitely should be a remake of this game. It would be bloody epic on next gen graphics. Was playing brothers in arms hells highway just before Christmas on the series S. Keep up the good work really enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work dog dad...
Oh my goodness, thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this out! I knew the name Pitchford sounded familiar! I loved Borderlands, and what an interesting contrast between games. Age is an important number, and yet for gaming, I find it timeless somehow. I'm thankful you took the time to write this comment, I appreciate it more than you know. I wish you the best and I love that vivid Christmas comment, something I will remember for some time. All the best, Dog Dad Studios
Cheers dog dad. Here's a bast from the past. Do you remember state of emergency. Think I played it on ps2. Plus another game I can't remember the name but basically the USA was invaded by soviet forces and you had to rescue people and they would join forces with you and you had to take America back and attack strongholds with freshly rescued recruits. I forget the name of the game. Plus did you ever play and of the bitmap brothers games....legends well before their time. Speedball 2 brutal deluxe and chaos engine were epic on the Amiga. Mercenaries and Mercenaries 2 were epic too
I'm currently playing Earned in blood after finishing Road to hill 30 for the first time in my life in 2024 and oh man, this game is outstanding. Graphics aged hard but the core gameplay and feel of the game is an insanity, I'm surprised I haven't found it earlier. After playing cod's, moh's, Hidden&Dangerous Saga (Other game, sad it's gone) Brothers in Arms stand-out the most. Great games.
I played the hell out of these games. First two were the best for me as they have a certain grittiness to them. Hells highway was still really good though. They were hard and brutal games that don’t hold your hand. Send one part of the squad to hold them down with suppression fire and send the others with you on a good old flank. So much love for these. Cheers for the upload.
I own this on 360..I'm pretty sure my dad got it for me when a video store went out of business. I got like 12 games that day and still got them to this day. I gotta replay it soon
thanks for bringing this series of games back into the limelight. great games, played the hell out of them, and really enjoyed them. the series needs a reboot.
i loved the atmosphere. it all looks so real, the vegetation, the villages. i'm from germany and i can tell, this graphic design feels absolutely authentic. Maybe the best trees i've ever seen in videogames. lol
Thank you so much for taking the time to write! That’s amazing, I enjoyed Munich and southern Germany a lot! That’s an interesting lens to see, I would never have thought about the trees! Hope all is well!
Great review! I love this game, pure nostalgia. Also, this game together with Band of Brothers got me into reading about ww2 history. I even visited Normandy (was lost in the hedges) and accidently pulled up the same road you go to "Dead Mans Corner" and recognized the farm the mission before. Gearbox Studios really did the enviorments justice, no one has made a more realistic WW2 shooter since.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! I’m so glad that it took you down memory lane! It’s amazing to hear how people get into the things they find important, it’s a truly amazing thing about humans in general! That’s so cool! I’ve only been to the museums in Paris, but my friend went to Normandy and went inside a bunker. Living history is real! And insanely powerful.. Gearboxes dedication shows, and seeing the impact good writing and story telling can do ( seeing the reactions of people for this game) is truly a testament to gaming in general. Thanks again for writing this!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios I think what they did right is show us how the Soldiers are just young guys, trying to complete thier mission and survive. That's what really affected me, i'm really hoping we get another game that brings out this humanity in a like subtile and bautiful way. Once again, your review really did the game justice, it was a blast listening to someones first reaction of this game :) I especially liked your HL2 reference. Cheers!
I absolutely loved this game. Glad to hear it being recognised again. The suppression mechanics really need to be brought back up to current games again. Thank you for this.
Thank you for taking the time to write this! Playing Earned in Blood now and the squad mechanics to start off felt powerful and good, just goes to show you what a different mechanic would be like! Thanks again for commenting
I appreciate that more than you know, and I’m excited to continue this type of content and improve on it as well! From the bottom of my heart, thank you for taking the time to write this!
Good to see others took advantage of this amazing sale as well. I also wanted to add that I had no idea about that crash you were getting. What I did was place my tank on the bridge to suppress the mg and then my squad mates and I charged the AT gun and as the reinforcements came in I blew the bridge and had no issue. The tank was even on the wrong side of the bridge during the cutscene. It was hilarious
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! This was an absolute blast and you're completely right, I would not have known about this without that steam sale, which is a testament to the power of steam as a catalyst to propel older games. They need a Retro or Classic week!! That would be so fun! Thanks again for watching!
I was hyped for this game when I saw the first demo. I was probably 10 and watched it 100 times. The game kept getting delayed and marketing was scarce. I couldn't believe it when I finally got my hands on a copy. It blew my expectations away. Played it many times through. It scratched every itch and I hate that they didn't make more than they did. Such a sad loss for the gaming world.
The more I look at 6 days in fallujah, the more I’m curious, but I’m with you, it baffles me that there hasn’t been anything like this or republic commando in so many years. It seems like the surge in popularity with single player games would be the advent of something around these mechanics.. thanks for taking the time to comment, hope this finds you well!
Oh my god! Dude thank you so much for bringing me back to my childhood. Absolutely loved this game and how you approached it in your video. Being able to command a squad….chef kiss. Wish modern games were like this. Good work soldier! 🫡
@@Dog.Dad.Studios I am working on a game in the likeness of early 2000s shooters. These games will always have a special place in my heart. I would love to see your take on Return to Castle Wolfenstein as well.
This was my first shooter on the OG Xbox. I loved it so much, but I was far too young to be playing it and I swear Leggett’s death haunted me for like a week lmao. Happy to see this get some overdue love!
Thank you so much for sharing! This is what RUclips should be about! I’m sorry that it haunted you, I also have those memories of things I probably was too young for ahaha. Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios i would say its in the top 3 best ww2 games to date. I would say its call of duty big red one, brothers in arms (either of them) and hell let loose.
Just downloaded Hell's Highway on the Xbox X (sadly Hill 30 was not available for current gen). I still remember the visceral opening of Hill 30 and ever since I longed for games similar to these. The series certainly has a special place in my gaming memory. Great video.
As you said in the beginning i also thought CoD 2 came out before this...damn, its been a long time. I played COD2 first and i was blown away, couple of months later i casually found Road to Hill 30 attached to a PC Magazine, i saw the game cover and i immediately fell in love with it, when i played it, i was not only blown away but i was also thinking: This game is definitely better than CoD & MoH combined. Hands down one of the greatest videogames ive ever played in my life!!
Loved Hell's Highway. Got a ps3 copy out of a bargain bin and played it 3-4 times before I moved on. But I'll never forget Baker, shame they stopped making these. Hopefully they start it back up
I've been praying for this one to reemerge with a proper reboot. Was a game changer in so many ways, and taught tactic fundamentals in a way other games just couldn't. Story telling was crisp too.
I remember is was Christmas of 2005. I could ask for 1 video game and it was going to be either call of duty 2 big red 1, or brothers in arms earned in blood. I wasn't sure which one to choose. But around that same time there was a special on the history channel about the making of earned in blood and the painstaking work they put into making it historically accurate. That and Band of Brothers used to play on TV pretty regularly sealed the deal. Brother's in Arms it was. I was 12 years old and had no idea what I was in for. I had played medal of honor frontline but this was completely different. The gunfire was actually scary sounding and you actually really wanted to avoid it. You really cared about the characters and every death was a gut punch. They all had great personalities and you really wanted to keep them alive. It really brought a different aspect to the gameplay. You couldn't just charge an mg42 nest and rambo it by yourself. A single mg42 could hold your entire squad up and you cared so much about your soldiers that sending them to assault a position weighed heavily on your mind. It introduced aspects of video games I had never expected or experienced before. It really felt like war to 12 year old me. I played that game for years and it took me a long time to finally beat it. Years later, I eventually got call of duty 2 on sale for $19.99. I beat it in one uneventful boring sitting and thought to myself how lucky I was to have played brothers in arms instead. The fact that call of duty and its gameplay style was the same then and remains popular to this day just proves that most of the population is completely retarded. I hope you do a video on earned in blood as well one day
Thank you so much for sharing all of this, truly one of the things I did not expect from making this channel is how taken aback I've been when hearing the stories this game has evoked. It's truly amazing and something remarkable, and has nothing to do with me, but with you and the others that shared their experiences. Thank you.
Game was great and the k98 was a beast when it came to precision fire support. Giving the assault team the go code to get Jerry to stick his kraut neck out of cover was always a thrill
This was one of my very first ever FPS game experiences back when I was over 5 years old having the original Xbox. I couldn't even make it back past the section where you have to order Red to shoot the scarecrow because I was a kid and just didn't understand English. A decade later, I decided to replay the game on PC (and also EiB and Hell's Highway) and now I have came to love the trilogy and the amount of passion put into it.
OMG shows how good this game was I can still remember these battles and it was a time when most games were complete before release I know many had patches but most were playable from day one.
Very similar to the single player, instead it was pvp... each player had their AI squads. Very tactical, very immersive, very intense... some of the best multiplayer I ever played. From death match to objectives like destroying or defending AA guns. And if you died you took control of a bot until your squads were wiped for that match.
This game still gets to me, can feel the lump forming in my throat just watching this video about it. The only other experience in videogames I can even compare it to is the first Telltale The Walking Dead where you are put in the role of father to an orphan girl. Every death in the story of Brothers in Arms hits hard, even so many years later.
Thank you for taking the time to write this! I’m so happy this is bringing back so many memories! Great that steam sale happened with ubi games! Hope you’re doing well!
I remember playing this as a kid back in the day on PS2. Hells Highway was also the first time ever trying to play a game on PC. But never got it to work back then lol.
Do you remember why it wouldn't work? I remember my first game not to work on PC was some Tom Clancy game. That's when i learned what graphics cards were since the menu would not show up.. I cried that day to my mom ahah, how far we come. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Thank you and thank the RUclips algorithm (first time I’ve said that) but I kept thinking this was part of Medal of Honor series. Childhood memories unlocked
I remember how excited I was as a 14 year old when this game came out. I played it RELENTLESSLY as well as the sequels. It’s only just now at the age of 32 that I noticed, after hearing Sgt. Matt Bakers voice again, that I realized he’s voiced by Troy Baker. I have a 3 year old daughter named Ellie, because TLOU is one of my fave franchises (hate if you want lol). Mind blown. 🤯
That's why his voice sound so familiar!!!!! My goodness, does he also voice the detective in the Call of Cthulu game? And isn't that the best, time does fly, but memory still can be such a powerful emotion and feeling. I hope you and your daughter are doing well and that you can pass on your love of storytelling to the next generation! All the best, Dog Dad Studios
I tried looking for my physical copy, but didn't find it. I believe, it was written there, that they made the maps in such detail, you could recognize the villages in France after playing. There was also a picture of the destroyed tank. One half was a screenshot, the other was an actual historic photo. Love the game. This may a bit of a spoiler... in the second instalment you play as Red, so it was nice to see him in the video.
@@TheFBosso ahahah I always love putting in my deaths because I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. I appreciate you taking the time to watch! See you in the next one!
17:25 I just appreciate how useful tanks are in this game. In the ww2 cod games, its almost a trope for a tank to move up and get obliberated without even doing anything useful
Isn't that interesting how we find passions? I'm so glad it did, and thank you so much for sharing this memory! Did you stay interested in military history? or a specific time frame of military history?
Well, you got me there at 6:44 now I subscribed. Anyways thanks for this video, this gives me great nostalgia from when I played the first 3 games back in the day. ❤
Oh man Brothers in Arms Hells Highway was one of the games I got when my parents bought my brother and I a Xbox 360 Elite. I remember that game being scary, the firs missions is like some scary ass asylum and another mission had a scary ghost scene. I honestly don't know how these games can make a world feel so big and vast, and create such detailed scenery. Theres something about having a loud firefight, then silence after defeating the opposing force. Not knowing when more are going to pop up again.
This game has a special place in my heart. As much as I love Hell Let Loose and some of the newer games, narrative wise we'll never get anything this good again. Hopefully one day we can get a new BIA or at least a remaster
Brothers in Arms and later on Full Spectrum Warrior were a couple absolutely awesome and underrated favorites. Wish they made some new sequels with today's tech
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! Absolutely would love to see this game in modern engines, especially with all the squad stuff/scripting is possible nowadays. Hope you're doing well!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios doin very well hope you are as well! Yea today's tech would completely revolutionize the genre IF they didn't skimp on budget and put honest effort into those titles. But today gaming seems kinda screwed with the lack of honest developing due to the industry being taken over by huge financial holding firms and let's be honest during the last few years a lot of quality talent was fired and/or left big companies due to political BS pushed into the industry. Honestly if it wasn't for solid games like Hell Let Loose ported over to console I'd have ditched Xbox and built a PC again since at least Steams owner is the last bastion that's pushed back against those industry destroying plague.
I play through all 3 every year or so. Love these games, they really don't make them like this anymore. Which is sad, because imagine what they could do with modern technology!
One of my friends was consoluted on the Hells Highway game as he's done a lot of research into the fighting around Eindhoven. The Klosterdeef location is eerily accurate (within the limits of the game engine of course)
Road to Hill 30, earned in blood and hells highway were fantastic games! Still waiting for the Bastogne sequel and finale. I want more info on Red Hartsock and his paralysis injury and whether he got home or not. Also Baker’s story needs to be wrapped up. It’s been nearly 14 years since Hells highway dropped and I still play these games. The character development and the role you play as squad leader, getting to know all the characters and their backgrounds in depth leaves a sense of genuine care for the men under your command and every death hit me so hard playing the games for the first time. Few games did it so well as a whole, combining FPS with strategy.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write all of this! I like how in Earned in Blood, you actually get more of a reward if all your squad survives, which I enjoyed a lot! Also hearing "Allen Garnet" again was sad..
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Allen and Garnett were iconic characters for me and the controversy in game surrounding their deaths and the way Leggett blames himself and carries it to his death really hits home for me, especially since in my unit who fought in Afghanistan many years later, we had a bloke named corporal Tom Grover, a very close and dear friend of mine, blames himself for a “tactical mistake” made that resulted in a ambush that got one of our younger section members killed. Nobody could of known we were walking into a ambush, but that stayed with me and him. It affects him so much more than me as he was the commander of the section. The very real consequences that Brothers in Arms showcase is apparent from the get go, even something as simple as an argument on the way to an objective can cost lives. Road to Hill 30 when your surrounding leggett and the bodies of Allen and Garnett, combined with the scene in Hell’s Highway when Baker has a flashback to asking Leggett what happened in the build up to Allen and Garnett’s death makes me cry every time I play these days. Although our instance was different in many ways, I can’t help but notice so many similarities as well. The point I’m making, is these games fill you (or at least myself) with a huge amount and sense of purpose of protection of my men as Baker. They are more than games for me, when I play, very often I revisit my tour of Afghanistan in 2011. The devs at gearbox did a great job of connecting the player to the emotional side of warfare.
Howdy folks! Thanks for watching! Have you played the Brothers in Arms series? If so what was your favorite? Hoping all is well!

I post link:

I loved these games. Would love a video on the others.
The third one was the best in my opinion though I loved them all. This series is at the very top of my wish list for a new installation.
@@smicasifyIt is planned, and will take some time since there are some other projects I'm working on that will come out before the next BiA. Very much looking forward to it!

@@Dog.Dad.Studios
You should defenetley play Earned in Blood, they tidy up the mechanics a bit and it has some great missions. Still a very difficult game, be aware of mortars.

@@Dog.Dad.Studios hell's highway forsure. Very good storyline
So much nostalgia hit me right in the feels
Mighta been hells highway actually it was the older one I played it on Xbox the newer one was just as good though imo but the first one was the first time I had gotten that into a game so that’s what I liked best for sure
Hell's Highway graphics still hold up today. I still play it once in awhile.
You are clearing the way for reinforcements and resupplies.
i read your book rommel! : P
Just goes to show high the bar was back then for video game realism and how far it has fallen...
i really hope this series makes a comeback

Gearbox stated the game was still being worked even 6 years ago, but it they scrapped it to focus on Borderlands.
4:33 The m1 grand sight is realistically portrayed yay! Many games don’t have a blur around the rear aperture as would actually occur
Brothers in arms, LA Noire, World at War and Spec ops the line are the best war games they actually treat war as something traumatic and awful instead of just using war as medium to do cool video game stuff and because of that distinct humanity make them the most refreshing and memorable games ever.
LA Noire?? Isn't that a detective game?
@@jerrysmooth24 couldn’t have said it better myself!! Well put!

Should be able to finish them within a day or two. These older games were short but memorable.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! I completely agree, but it did take a while for me to get used to it!
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate that more than you know! I hope you're doing well! Did you play the rest of the series?
I'm eager to see the rest of the franchise covered by you. Very well made essay on the game, and very entertaining.
I appreciate that more than you know, thank you!!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios I am working on a game in the likeness of early 2000s shooters. These games will always have a special place in my heart. I would love to see your take on Return to Castle Wolfenstein as well.
@@gamepodhungaryI've never played but i've heard of that franchise, I'll give it a look! Thank you for the suggestion!
Crazy i was just thinking about this game yesterday.
Good or bad thoughts?
@@Dog.Dad.Studios i would say its in the top 3 best ww2 games to date. I would say its call of duty big red one, brothers in arms (either of them) and hell let loose.
I do hope you play and enjoy the rest of this series ❤
I restarted this game about a month ago. I’m going through the whole series
What made you restart the game?
Just downloaded Hell's Highway on the Xbox X (sadly Hill 30 was not available for current gen). I still remember the visceral opening of Hill 30 and ever since I longed for games similar to these. The series certainly has a special place in my gaming memory. Great video.
Thank you so much for taking the time to write this! I appreciate it more than you know!
I was 3-4 when I saw this on my cousins ps2. I got older and got it myself. Amazing first mission.
Thank you for sharing!
I’m so glad to read these memories of yours. Thank you so much for taking the time to share them!
this was a great video!!
I can't wait for the others😄
Thank you so much! I truly appreciate it and hope all is well!
Would absolutely LOVE a 4k remaster of these.
Absolutely! Ubi, hear us! Thanks for stopping by!
One of my all time favourite games. I was very excited to hear they were working on a new release for the ps5 but thats all gone quiet :(
Great video!
Thank you for taking the time to comment!! Much appreciated, crossing my fingers we hear something soon!
This masterpiece,is in my heart it reminds me of my childhood, great video 👍🫡
Thank you so much for taking the time to comment! I truly appreciate it! I'm glad it could evoke these emotions!
man...I loved this game. IT was so different but so effective and evocative.
Thank you for taking the time to comment! I agree completely! Hope you’re well!
Loved Hell's Highway. Got a ps3 copy out of a bargain bin and played it 3-4 times before I moved on. But I'll never forget Baker, shame they stopped making these. Hopefully they start it back up
Those bargain bins were the original steam sales.. I remember getting fable 2 for like 5$ and that was an insane money to time value.
@@Dog.Dad.Studios hell yeah, now my bargain bin is watching a playthrough of a game I want but can't afford
One of the best shootergames. I wish they continued these games
Crossing my fingers! Thanks for stopping by!
I've been praying for this one to reemerge with a proper reboot. Was a game changer in so many ways, and taught tactic fundamentals in a way other games just couldn't. Story telling was crisp too.
Thanks for taking the time to comment! I absolutely agree!!
wow i grew up with this game, probably the first game i ever played when i was 4 or 5!
It’s insane how we remember these things : )! Thanks for commenting!
This is my all time favorite game
I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you for sharing! Hope all is well!
Playing Earned in Blood now and the k98 is slapping, thanks for stopping by and leaving a comment!
Thank you so much for sharing this memory!! I couldn't agree more.
I am a paratrooper in the army, I love the history of the airborne. I never played this game but watching the jump scene was really cool
Thank you for your service! I don't know how you do it!
LTC John Antal USA was an advisor for developers
OMG shows how good this game was I can still remember these battles and it was a time when most games were complete before release I know many had patches but most were playable from day one.
Thank you so much for sharing this! I hope you’re doing well!
Single player was great but the multiplayer in 1 & 2 was phenomenal...
What was the multiplayer like?
Very similar to the single player, instead it was pvp... each player had their AI squads. Very tactical, very immersive, very intense... some of the best multiplayer I ever played. From death match to objectives like destroying or defending AA guns. And if you died you took control of a bot until your squads were wiped for that match.
This game still gets to me, can feel the lump forming in my throat just watching this video about it.
The only other experience in videogames I can even compare it to is the first Telltale The Walking Dead where you are put in the role of father to an orphan girl. Every death in the story of Brothers in Arms hits hard, even so many years later.
was a staple for my very first xbox. this brings me back, i own the series on steam now.
Thank you for taking the time to write this! I’m so happy this is bringing back so many memories! Great that steam sale happened with ubi games! Hope you’re doing well!
The way how they made that MG-42 fire with the flames smoke and vibration at 16:18, is still looking the best in comparisson with other games.
It baffles me that games around this time had really specific details that stand up to the test of time. Thanks for taking the time to mention this!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios You are welcome!👍
Wow haven’t thought about this game in a long time so fantastic.
What was your favorite part?
I remember playing this as a kid back in the day on PS2. Hells Highway was also the first time ever trying to play a game on PC. But never got it to work back then lol.
Do you remember why it wouldn't work? I remember my first game not to work on PC was some Tom Clancy game. That's when i learned what graphics cards were since the menu would not show up.. I cried that day to my mom ahah, how far we come. Thanks for taking the time to comment!
Not long forgotten by me! I play it every few years lol. I still hope and pray they'll release a new one.
Crossing my fingers as well! Thanks for stopping by!
I still play the classic Brothers in arms games for Xbox i enjoyed hell highway too so im looking for that game then im set
Just started Earned in Blood, not close to Road to Hill 30, but I've heard nothing but good things about hell's highway, so I'm excited to get there!
Thank you and thank the RUclips algorithm (first time I’ve said that) but I kept thinking this was part of Medal of Honor series. Childhood memories unlocked
I truly appreciate that! Thank you! Hope all is well
I remember how excited I was as a 14 year old when this game came out.
All the best,
Dog Dad Studios
I tried looking for my physical copy, but didn't find it. I believe, it was written there, that they made the maps in such detail, you could recognize the villages in France after playing. There was also a picture of the destroyed tank. One half was a screenshot, the other was an actual historic photo. Love the game. This may a bit of a spoiler... in the second instalment you play as Red, so it was nice to see him in the video.
Oh no way! No worries, that just makes me more excited to play! Thanks so much for taking the time to comment!
@@Dog.Dad.Studios Thank you for the video, it was a trip down memory lane. There were multiple moments "Oh,I remember dying there."
@@TheFBosso ahahah I always love putting in my deaths because I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. I appreciate you taking the time to watch! See you in the next one!
Thank god, I used to play this game when i was little but completely forgot the name. It all came back now
I’m so glad!! It still holds up! Thanks for taking the time to comment this!
17:25 I just appreciate how useful tanks are in this game. In the ww2 cod games, its almost a trope for a tank to move up and get obliberated without even doing anything useful
It feels so powerful when it works, then when the tank just spins around doing nothing, I was bonking my head on the table.
No one escapes the 'rage' in this game. Cheers.@@Dog.Dad.Studios
I remember getting this for the wii when I was 7 or 8. It definitely influenced my interest in military history and history in general.
Isn't that interesting how we find passions? I'm so glad it did, and thank you so much for sharing this memory! Did you stay interested in military history? or a specific time frame of military history?
Forgot? Nah, my childhood.
What was your favorite part?
Well, you got me there at 6:44 now I subscribed. Anyways thanks for this video, this gives me great nostalgia from when I played the first 3 games back in the day. ❤
Ahahah i appreciate it! Looking forward to playing the next game! Hope all is well!
I really appreciate you taking the time to write all of this! Thank you for sharing your memories!!
This game has a special place in my heart. As much as I love Hell Let Loose and some of the newer games, narrative wise we'll never get anything this good again. Hopefully one day we can get a new BIA or at least a remaster
Yeah multiplayer games always have their place, but narrative games are always welcomed, even if they have been shy about making them.
One of the best video game series ❤️🥺
Can’t wait to play the whole series! Thanks for taking the time and stopping by!
Thank you for sharing! I’m hoping something comes up about the franchise soon! All the best!
One of my friends was consoluted on the Hells Highway game as he's done a lot of research into the fighting around Eindhoven. The Klosterdeef location is eerily accurate (within the limits of the game engine of course)
Thank you for sharing this!
Mr pitchford said that gearbox is making a new brothers in arms game
When was this? We can only hope!
Back In 2021 when he announced it on his twitter
One of the great franchises. The multiplayer was awesome too.
What was the multiplayer like?
