This groove truly changed my life. I was unemployed, in thousands worth of debt, my marriage was failing, everything was just falling apart. I would wake up and fail to see the meaning to my existence, I didn't see any reason to go on. Just when I thought I was ready to give up, and put an end to my suffering I stumbled across this video. This beat gave me hope, I began learning it, and in just 10 days I've managed to get in the best shape of my life, my wife and children have come back to me, I have been promoted at work and am on the verge of making my first million... I've never been happier. Thank you so much Drumeo, I'll never forget this.
I love your comment. Great, tidy grooves change our moments. Satire changes minds. Falling down the stairs and breaking your high-hats feets will change your life for sure, yet there's a whole lot of stuff it won't change.
Love it, played it for some time now and it just grooves like hell. It's the perfect example for why you don't need to learn fancy grooves to sound perfect (although it doesn't hurt)
Steve Gadd is a god. I really appreciate what you all you guys at Drumeo show us. I recently switched from trying to learn guitar to drums. Drums, just as hard, (or harder) but a whole lot more fun!. Guitar felt like work. Drums feel like joy. Cheers.
This is such a great groove. It's an excellent experiment about how to approach rhythms and play sparsely with expression. I also appreciate the point about style and feel and it needs to match the purpose of the rhythm. Well done. Gabor obviously loves drumming and sharing drum ideas.
Thanks for the amazing vid, Drumeo - but even more so for introducing this amazing drummer to me. I just checked out a clip on his Facebook page. Gabor Dornyei = MONSTER PLAYER!!
I like it and I find it very useful. Playing this way you keep the groove going on and by having your left hand less busy, you have more room to play more interesting fills. Thanks very much for sharing it, buddy!
Yes, but the Purdie shuffle does not work in every situation. If you are playing a blues gig you want the snare on 2 and 4. Purdie shuffle is very hip but it puts the backbeat on the 3.
Hey Gabor, Great beginner lesson, Thank you! You know what did change my life? It was seeing you and Kornel live as Thunderduo, Fantastic to say the least!
+MrJakedsb Post a video of yourself playing the groove for 1 minute straight. If after you do that and still don't feel as though it's changed your life, then email me: jared@drumeo.com - I'll re-title the lesson just for you.
Thanks Gabor, nice lesson. I will try this when I get home. I'm glad to see you doing more with Drumeo. I really liked your previous lesson, but it seemed rushed. I like the more relaxed pace.
This shuffle changed my life...I started nailing it, and must have been playing it so well that some passing Aliens abducted me, experimented on me for a couple of days............and now I can play the purdie shuffle and the rosanna shuffle! I'm so stoked, those aliens were from the planet Shuff.......what are the chances!
I do this sometimes. One thing I also like doing is alternate between the ride and floor Tom with my right hand for small sections. by which I mean the first hit will be the ride, and the swung eighth will be on the floor tom. having your ride overhang the floor tom really low can be helpful when doing this of course
One thing this video did to "change my life" I now know I need that damn shirt! BTW, am I the only one who immediately needed to hear Rush after the mentions of Subdivisions ?
Absolutely, Gabor. Everyone commenting negatively in this video probably have no realisation that this video is all about swing, primarily, about feel. Without the feel, you ain't gonna be hired on the drum job. so, yes, if you watch and imbibe, this COULD be a life-changing lesson, and then some. Beautiful playing, Gabor, as always :) Thanks for the music!
Thanks ever so much Arkapravo, YES absolutely! Music/good playing is all about timing, touch and sound, and not always the flash...Glad you dig it! Gabs
+bchampion96 What!? That is a nice sounding snare. Not one of those overproduced EQ + compressor snares. His snare has a beautiful overtone which is essential for sound engineers. Maybe it is too tight for this kind of music but it sounds great to me.
This very beat may not change your life but using your left foot as a syncopation tool rather than as a time keeper is a cool concept, also Steve fucking Gadd became Steve Gadd by playing this beat (among others) so there must be something for you to take from it, no ?
Holy shit guys, I`ve learned that beat and all off the sudden 3 Hollywood supermodels broke into my practise room, each holding a huge sack of money in one hand and a bottle of cold champagne in the other saying they're all mine now. This guy aint shitting! # life changed
+Gabor Dornyei fantastic!! I´ve been wanting one of those for ages!! almost 6 years. I´ve tried others but the special dry ride is, IMO, how a ride should sound! If you don´t play rock that is haha Cheers mate!!
+Drumeo I mean if you wanna get into it drumming is life, triplets as we all know is one of the most utilized and important rudiments since the time of people like buddy rich or Joe Jones. So yeah this could be an earth shattering revelation about the nature of a triplet groove. And I'm sure there's some kid in a garage right now that makes a breakthrough and finally understands the body of triplets and he could be the next John Bonham. But for now I'm just gonna marvel at that k custom ride.
Bloody hell you three! But it's as lazy to post a video on anything saying that it, 'will change your life' as it is to ask, 'what is life?' Give the video a more useful description and the comments below wouldn't have been born of frustration.
Pedantic point alert! Dotted rhythms and triplets are not the same thing. The shuffle illustrated is dividing the quarter note into 3 (triplet 8th notes), playing the first and third. A dotted rhythm is dividing the quarter note into 4 (16th notes), playing the first and fourth. If you swing/shuffle a rhythm you can basically play anywhere between straight 8th notes and triplet 16th notes, or even 32nd notes depending on the speed and groove of the music. There is always ongoing debate about how these grooves are played, expressed and notated. This is discussed in a great many noteworthy books including Jim Chapin's Advanced Techniques for the Modern Drummer.

LOL @jordanbassess you might need a little rest pal... ;-)
I love your comment.
Great, tidy grooves change our moments. Satire changes minds.
Falling down the stairs and breaking your high-hats feets will change your life for sure, yet there's a whole lot of stuff it won't change.
Underrated comment
Smart ass American!😂😂 Lmao
This reminds me of that one part in Atlanta lmao
I love this lesson the way he incorporates the hi hats to impy the shuffle feel - very cool
2:28 3:50 4:28 5:30 5:58
Too many haters. This video changed your life because it gave you better knowledge of the shuffle groove. Period.
5:10 I could practice this all day.
I just love the feel/sound.
Pretty known groove, quite good effective and great sound. This lesson did not amaze me, but: GREAT TEACHER! Really love the way. Gábor did.
Grazie Gabor.... esercizio "facile" ma di grande impatto... grazie Drumeo
Thank you Gabor for hipping us to this awesome shuffle. I very much appreciate your easy-to-follow, step-by-step lesson. Thank you.
I'm inspired by your infectious enthusiasm and obvious joy de groove!
Thanks Gabor
Say what?! This is actually a great idea. Off to the kit! =)
Fantastic. Playing for years and never able to put that feel to it. Now, something to do while all cooped up! Thanks.
Great lesson can't wait to practice it on my kit!
Great teacher, great groove, thank you so much!
Plays quarter notes yet we still hear the shuffle. Incredible. 2:09
Love it, played it for some time now and it just grooves like hell. It's the perfect example for why you don't need to learn fancy grooves to sound perfect (although it doesn't hurt)
+HiFisch94 WORD!

My whole life has been a lie until now! Thank you SOOOO much Drumeo!!
I lost 10 pounds playing this beat. It only took me 2 weeks of non-stop shuffling.
Before and after pics or it didn't happen.
Hardstyle or nothing ;)
Thanks Gabor, expertly explained a great feel to try out!
I like it and I find it very useful. Playing this way you keep the groove going on and by having your left hand less busy, you have more room to play more interesting fills. Thanks very much for sharing it, buddy!
I was looking for ideas to solo to Green Onions & this is perfect, thank you! 🤘🏻
Nice shuffle... Fit in nicely to a couple of 12 bar blues songs like Roadhouse Blues and Sweet home Chicago... Thanks
Good to see another drummer with his toms in a different order. 😁 I love the creative sound this gives!
Super NEATO! Easy and sounds so cool!
This shuffle definitely made me smile :)
+KlaudiaDrums That's THE MAIN Thing! ;-))))
best shuffle beat lesson for me
Fantastic. Thank you. Well done
Cool thanks
One of my favorite grooves 👍🏼
Really cool! happy about it: G.
Your so amazing and you give me so much inspiration for my craft. Thank you for sharing
This is really fun to play
Very easy shuffle, but still sounds very rad! Thanks!
Great classic groove indeed!
Great groove, great teaching and great, what i believe was maybe 5 stroke rolls at the start. Cheers!
I love the snare !
Thank you that was brilliant! 👏🇦🇺✌️
Most iratkoztam fel erre a csatornára és nagy meglepetésemre látok magyar dobosokat is :-)
The Purdie Shuffle changed my life. This one, not so much.
100% agreed. The Purdie Shuffle transformed my groove on the drums, this one is good...but not life changing..
well for me the Rosanna shuffle..but Jeff got the idea from the Prudie shuffle too..
Yes, but the Purdie shuffle does not work in every situation. If you are playing a blues gig you want the snare on 2 and 4. Purdie shuffle is very hip but it puts the backbeat on the 3.
Fool in the Rain for me. To each his own, I guess :)
+TABBYFINSTAH The fool in the rain shuffle is the Purdie Shuffle
This did change my life. HANDS.DOWN.
Greetings from Michigan!
Hey Gabor, Great beginner lesson, Thank you! You know what did change my life? It was seeing you and Kornel live as Thunderduo, Fantastic to say the least!
Guitar player
Shuffle is amazing!! Great job Mr. Gábor. Is very intense like you said. Congrats
nope my life is still the same
+MrJakedsb sounds like you just watched the video. Go practice and learn it and then give us feedback :-)
+Drumeo nope nope. still the same. very much enjoyed playing this, though I do feel this is false advertising
+MrJakedsb I think you took the title too seriously mate...
+MrJakedsb Post a video of yourself playing the groove for 1 minute straight. If after you do that and still don't feel as though it's changed your life, then email me: jared@drumeo.com - I'll re-title the lesson just for you.
+Drumeo hahaha thats why I love this channel. you win sir xxx

Great! Thank You. You've been a great help!!!
very well explained thanks alot 👌🏻
Beautiful😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ Russian drummer love Drumeo
Nice variation for a shuffle.
So cool! 💥🥁
The kits always sound great at Drumeo no matter who the player.
I do this sometimes. One thing I also like doing is alternate between the ride and floor Tom with my right hand for small sections. by which I mean the first hit will be the ride, and the swung eighth will be on the floor tom. having your ride overhang the floor tom really low can be helpful when doing this of course
Good solid lesson.
Awesome thank you so much!
Very good!
That mean face he makes while playing changed my life.
it ended mine
One thing this video did to "change my life" I now know I need that damn shirt!
BTW, am I the only one who immediately needed to hear Rush after the mentions of Subdivisions ?
great, as usual....!!!!!
tremendo hermano, es grandioso
Gabor Is a great guy
Your voice is super satisfying, especially when you mimic the drums! Lol
Gadd is a musical genius. Cut and dry.
This is great Gabor, thank you sir.
+TALinTune Absolute pleasure! Cheers, glad you liked it: Gabs

My absolute pleasure , Sir! Really glad you liked it, GREAT groove by the brilliant Steve Gadd! Gabs
Thanks ever so much Arkapravo, YES absolutely! Music/good playing is all about timing, touch and sound, and not always the flash...Glad you dig it! Gabs
I’ll never be the same. I’ve been playing the hi-hat in the wrong spot. I had it on the snare shot. Doh!
Steve Gadd presented this many years ago, just to record. It seems you all need to hear him more
Hi Drumeo :) If you want you can put the tempo(bpm) on the right or left side of the screen. Thanks for the lesson. Greatings from Bulgaria ! :)
Mi favorito, demasiado flow
Great Shuffle, great lesson! :-)
I learned this instantly, definitely didnt change my life, but it's definitely a nice base for cooler grooves
ok this is the beat that's been plaguing me my whole its found in zz tops music stevie ray Vaughn all that blues stuff doors roadhouse blues
It's the shuffle baby.
Thee most elusive groove of them all. Alot of rock and roll guys have not a clue because it's so jazzy.
My life hast change. Wow, much excitement
Hi! I would like to see David Garibaldi in the Drumeo studio! It would be awesome!
Very easy to understand.
Yooo
Thank you!
+Dobromil Shargut My pleasure, and a GREAT idea from Lord Jared! What a Gent!!! Gabs
Thanks mate
It really is, "life changing". Well not realistically, but meaning I taught me a whole another groove :D
"One Shuffle Drum Beat That Will Change Your Life" only if your drums sounds like that
+bchampion96 What!? That is a nice sounding snare. Not one of those overproduced EQ + compressor snares. His snare has a beautiful overtone which is essential for sound engineers. Maybe it is too tight for this kind of music but it sounds great to me.
+bchampion96 Cheers! It's matter of opinion like you said.
+Jimmy Adaro Every drum has it's own sound! :D
+bchampion96 Your comment reads like arse.
+bchampion96 Sure wouldn't want to hear the actual instrument sound. Do I need to point out that this is an attempt at sarcasm?
love that grove haha es funny to play
This very beat may not change your life but using your left foot as a syncopation tool rather than as a time keeper is a cool concept, also Steve fucking Gadd became Steve Gadd by playing this beat (among others) so there must be something for you to take from it, no ?
iopklmification q
Nice groove for sure. What song does Steve Gadd play it on ?
Yeah real life changing stuff ...
Holy shit guys, I`ve learned that beat and all off the sudden 3 Hollywood supermodels broke into my practise room, each holding a huge sack of money in one hand and a bottle of cold champagne in the other saying they're all mine now. This guy aint shitting! # life changed
You see.....I TOLD YA!! ;-)
constantly learning...
Great lesson!! And also would you mind adding some fills for these beat?
He did. Weren't you listening.
is that the K custom special dry ride?!
+Ramon Hernandez Yes mate, 21" K Custom Special Dry Ride! G
+Gabor Dornyei fantastic!! I´ve been wanting one of those for ages!! almost 6 years. I´ve tried others but the special dry ride is, IMO, how a ride should sound! If you don´t play rock that is haha
Cheers mate!!
+Gabor Dornyei I also want to add that I´ve never seen a drummer using it. Kudos!
Dang! This is simple but a great start for me considering I never play Latin grooves (when I really should play Latin)
Ügyes!!! Köszönöm! :)
Why did this change my life
+Plexus What is life?
+Drumeo woah, I didn't know I could come here for drum videos and discussions on philosophy

should be played with that ghost note for ultimate life experience
Where did you get the shirt? I want one
Beauty!
Lovely.
Cool beat! I don't know about life changing but it is pretty cool :)
Thank you lol
-T
Thanks Buzzfeed!
Shuffle to me is playing straight quarters or 8th as dotted... Never thought of it as triplets necessarily although that would often be the case.
+Tioga Fretworks Hi Tioga, it's the same thing! Well spotted. G
Pedantic point alert!
