Tiefling's Hellish Resistance is 50% damage reduction from ALL sources of fire, not just attacks that hit you; which in Larian games is huge because there will be a ton of fire surfaces on the ground to deal with. Definitely not niche.
I also feel like they will have a ton of dialog in the finished game. I think the "out there" races will have a bit more reactivity because of rarity (Githyanki, Drow Dragonborn). While most races are assumed to be from Baldur's Gate at least in early access the three races above most likely don't have the baldurian tag that indicates you grew up there (Already confirmed this personally with Drow and Githyanki.) Like Dragonborn are not even from Faerun and only came to the planet about 100 years before the story give or take. It's also debated among themselves if they were descended from dragons. On their native planet/realm dragons ruled and enslaved them for a very long time.
Have a feeling every minmax power gamer will be playing either elves or gnomes, Elves for the free proficiency in weapons and immune to charm/sleep and gnomes for their advantage cunning advantage on saving throws.

Instead of Faerun, I dare you to do this for New York City. Also, you must include the line you use @ 1:42 in this video, "Personally, I like white the best..."
Im somewhat hopeful that they give the humans one free feat at start, could be the tipping point because that would make them quite good again. Having said that... we will have to see I guess. Assuming nothing changes ? Ugh... big D tier.
Imo Dwarfs prolly should be upgraded to S tier because they are the only class that can be "Thrown/Tossed" into enemies for a guaranteed unblockable critical hit. I'm actually going to be playing a Dwarf Toss build when the game launches.
Pretty sure throwing is based entirely off weight and dwarves are surprisingly heavy (I think even heavier than humans) whereas halflings and gnomes are super light. Unless changes have been made I believe commenter is wrong here with the "throwness" of the dwarves.
While certain races may have more reactivity than others you gotta understand the sheer amount of dialog that's going to be in this game. Even the more "normal" races - Humans , Non Drow Elves and Half Elves , Dwarves , Halflings etc. will have their moments to shine especially when interacting with another of that race. I even had Goblins act more aggressively to my human and my halfling had an option to call a goblin out on telling bullshit stories lol.
I wouldn't say that having fire resistance is "niche" because fire-damage is the by far most common elemental damage ressource from enemies, but it doesn't stop there, you also have tons of traps and surfaces that also deal fire damage and having a permanent resistance against that is extremely powerful, you can even go so far to intentionally create/stand in fire surfaces to abuse stuff like Nature's Vengeance especially if you get it for free when wearing the Amulet of Elemental Torment. I can understand you saying that for example the poison resist is rather niche as it is pretty hit or miss and you get way less options to both mitigate it or even use it to your advantage (as far as we know from the EA portion at least). Overall tho I think the tierlist is pretty reasonable, especially considering the impact that race has on dialog (at least in the EA).

Here are my thoughts: 1: Races without Darkvision are at a serious disadvantage. That is Humans, Halflings, Gith, and Dragonborn. Superior darkvision is nice but not necessary. 2: Speed is important in combat. Lack of it hurts, additional speed helps a lot. Wood elves have a serious advantage here. Elves get Perception which is great, Wood elves and Lightfoot Halflings get Stealth while deep gnomes get advantage on stealth. Rock gnomes get advantage on history, which is just weak. 4: Spells that are 1/rest and force the casting stat are not as good as they might sound. Better to get these from your class and have them set to your own casting stat. Warlock might be an exception as the available spell slots are limited to two per short rest. Misty Step might be the best choice as a “1/long rest” spell. 5: Resistances are good, but situational. I suspect it will be Fire > Poison > charm/sleep. 6: Weapon and Armor proficiencies are weak, you can mostly get these from your class. Elves get the best choice of these.
Shield dwarfs will now make the best wizards, because they can wear medium armor. and still put their +2 in int and they are able to wield warhammers and battle axes, which are clearly better then the normal wizard weapons. So shield dwarfs are pretty cool in my book.
Not entirely. You'll be wanting to use quarter-staffs for their passive/useable spell. Like the raindancers create water spell to boost your ice/lightning spells damage. Melee weapons are terrible on caster classes since they don't get extra attack and wont have high strength usually. Githyanki will probably be a better option because medium armour + githyanki spells. Or gnomes for their cunning and just use mage armour instead which'll probably have better passives for you.
@@kellymccarthy7109Only disadvantage of Githyanki is the lack of dark vision. I was actually thinking they could make awesome warlocks because of the medium armor proficiency. Devil's sight could compensate for lack of darkvision.
I'm thinking about going for a Deep Gnome Rogue as my first character. Between superior dark vision and stone camouflage, they seem like they would have so many stacked stealth bonuses, they would almost never been seen when stealthed.

If this was more true to actual tabletop rules, Drow would be kinda bad. They get disadvantage in direct sunlight and there is a LOT of direct sunlight in this game.
@@OWlsfordshire it’s not really “a buff like this” you’ll want to give everyone bless and work to get advantage usually by hiding as a rogue which is only a bonus action. If you’re playing your rogue correctly true strike is kinda dog shit.
Deep gnome is the ideal stealth rogue with superior darkvision, stone camo, and advantage on magic saves for int, wis, and cha. Going rogue thief 4, lore bard 6, Fighter 1 and knowlegde cleric 1 or just ranger 2.
The one thing people overlook is racial perception. Perception is huge in this game. Massive even. Sure, some classes get it to start, but depending on what you want to play, you may not get it, and your party members may not have it decent enough to make it matter. They removed the sailor background a long long time ago because of the power of perception. For this reason, Elves (Drow, High Elf and Wood Elf) are top tier. Oddly, the only other class that can in fact take Perception from the start is the Human, which slightly raises it above D tier...but strictly to C or really low B tier. You would only ever take Perception with a human. I can't think of anything else you would take. Half Elves got the worst end of the stick because the new weapon proficiencies (while decent) do not stack up to what they did offer originally ability point wise. Because you cannot respec your race...which makes sense, the best bet is to go with an Elf of some sort. As compelling as a Orc is (And I LOVE THEM) for the sheer versatility of respeccing, elves will always be good for literally any class, just for Perception alone.
As a Githyanki I had a great deal of options. People don't always know what you are and I even got to ask what a cat and parents were lol. The interactions with Lae'Zel/Shadowheart are different as well and with the patrol also. With mindflayers being a huge part of the game and the mysterious artifact having gith runes on it I think they will have a large part to play.
Sounded natural, read well. Refining a script might make you sound more professional, and inputing or leaving out your personal opinion might ( maybe make a opinionated or subjective video difference about the same topic? ) be somthing that sets you aside from other youtubers.
Dwarves or Gyth are best casters because medium armor ^^. Superior Darkvision is good for Sorlock (gnome and drow). Different classes probably are better off with different races, but if you go full Warlock/Sorcerer/Wizard/Bard these are my picks!
almost forgor, the races with more unique dialogue in the game will be Drow/Gityanki/Dragonborn/ThePurpleDwarf, the are the most rare races so get mor edialogue humans/elfs/dwarfs/halfstuff/gnomes they are generic so expect around the same amount of dialogue some but not so much compare to the list above
Seldarine drow =/= good. In fact, Seldarine drow is a massive Larian bedshitting lore wise. The Seldarine is the elven pantheon. The Dark Seldarine, the children of Araushnee were cast out of Arvandor by Corellon after Araushnee attempted to kill Corellon twice. In her banishment Araushnee became Lloth. Eilistraee and Seveltarm were exiled as well. The Dark Seldarine are Lloth drow. At current WoTC is trying to retcon the schmidt out of the lore due to the rising popularity of drow elves. This may be the rationale behind the Larian's "Seldarine drow," but its such a peculiar mish mash of terms. Edited for typos.
Whst's interesting about it is that playing a good aligned drow has never been an obstacle to play. There is a minor diety (Eilistraee) for this purpose. I think WoTC's announcement of using the wand of retcon with little information to follow only complicates the matter.
Essentially they seem to be surface drow or drow that have forsaken Lolth. while you may disagree with the term "bed-shitting" is a bit harsh lol. Eilistraee is already in the game and has a quest and item dedicated to her and can be worshipped as a cleric. I have seen nothing in the game that retcons the lore at all. It simply gives people more choice and flavor. A character is not automatically good/evil based on race choice (I know in the past it's been different but frankly, that's stupid as no culture is a monolith.) So again maybe the term could have been different but they are not necessarily "good drow" just people who have stopped worshiping a deity that you would need to be partially insane in the first place to willingly worship lol.
@@gregdafoe516 Also this allows for more roleplay oppurtunity because of how the tag system works. Now you can play a drow who grew up in the Underdark and has bought into the society or you can be a rebel and this is all within the Lolth sworn option. If you pick Seldarine it seems you either are a part of a surface community or left the underdark like Drizzt. So again the wording could be different but all it does is allow for more variation and replay value.
@edwinbrown7179 the problem is the hombrewed term. Seldarine drow do not exist. Drow regardless of who they worship, lack the knowledge to undergo the transcendence and in such cannot pass on to Arvandor the planar home of the Seldarine when they die. The tie between drow and the greater Seldarine (Elven) pantheon is broken regardless of Eilistraee's small grove in the plane of Arborea.
Also interesting that the greatest Mary Sue of the Forgotten Realms Drizzt is mentioned when R.A. Salvatore had strongly alluded to him being an unwitting chosen of Llolth. Anyway, surface drow or some other generic term would have sufficed. That and redundant DC 0-5 checks are my only real issue with this otherwise fantastic game.
The racial bonuses are ridiculous. Half orc is so much better than the others, it's insane. I wanna play a halfling paladin, but would lose dark vision, bonus crit damage, extra movement, cheat death, and intimidation bonus. Jesus christ.
@@edwinbrown7179 See, I would have 0 issue picking a 2nd, 3rd, or 4th option overall strength wise. The problem is the half orc racials are so good they are better than 3-4 races combined for melee. The only viable alternative I've found for my paladin is Zarial Tiefling, just because they still get dark vision and the smite spells they get at levels 3 and 5. Still losing out on a lot though. Whoever decided not to provide some spice to the racial bonuses in 5e, despite the goal being to make the game more about accessibility and fun, is a fool. Dragonborn got done so wrong in 5e and BG3.
Giving humans a feat is such a double edged sword. Unless they do something else really interesting for them, they're pretty bland and weak, but a starting feat, especially in 5e, makes them so powerful that they invalidate every other race in terms of power. Obviously, players can choose to play whatever race they want, but it will flood the optimized build guides with them, just like actual 5e. It worked well for 3rd edition because everyone got a feat and humans just got a bonus second but got no ability increase, so it mattered more for specific builds, but it wasn't as op. I'm not a huge fan of it to be honest, I hope they go another route.
dragonborn backstory because they are not descendent of dragons. alternative universe where dragons Rule and the "descendent of dragons" are actually SLAVES of the Dragons force to work eventually some escape to our reality, you kinda skipped this little detail they may be humanoid dragons but they HATE dragons.
It does not make sens to create this kind of List for a no competitive game. They are all playables and fun. Don’t push people to chose a race they don’t want to play just because it is in S.

Only in an rpg can you make a litteral ranking of the races and not be considered a racist monster Anyway, good video, struggling to pick my Tav's race as a swords bard.
I wasn't sure what class would fit halflings best for an RP run until now. Bard halflings just fit. I'm going to have to make one when I do my bard run.
I pre-ordered BG3 and still upset they went against BG1 and 2 using strictly turn based. No matter I will be waiting until probably around Christmas time to play I order to wait for patches and balance changes
So not true. Combat even with a bad build ect can still be completed. Now that stats are tied to class instead of race it is easier to metagame if that is what you want. So naturally interaction with story ect does take into account on my list.
A race tier list makes no sense because what you pick will depend quite heavily on what class you're planning on taking. Also, Larion is doing away with all racial benefits in the full release, and alowing the player to chose a plus two and plus 1 so your choice of race will be purely esthetic.

Loleth drow made me smile ;)
I plan to use that name for one of my playthroughs now lol
Tieflings would be S tier for me. All the perks you get as a barbarian Tiefling is just amazing I wouldn't pick anything else.
which races have the most interactivity? is there a list somewhere?
There isn't a known list yet but others like Fextra commented Drow and Tielfing had a lot in act 1 and 2
@@Blood_Ronin i see, thanks!
@@adri_144 Drow has alot in EA. Espacially with goblins ect.
We need a Human Variant. There's a mod though (for EA).
I am really hoping they are in game naturally for those who don't like modding.
brown hair male human
Sounded natural, read well. Refining a script might make you sound more professional, and inputing or leaving out your personal opinion might ( maybe make a opinionated or subjective video difference about the same topic? ) be somthing that sets you aside from other youtubers.
I appreciate the Feedback. I'll definitely try to improve.
Dont mean to sound cunty, I just like your shit and subscribed to you and want it to be the main channel that we can go to. @@Blood_Ronin
@@2DaysYouth I didn't take it that way at all. I genuinely appreciate the feedback. Without it I won't know how to improve. I appreciate the support.
Dragonborn Paladin for sure
Duergar dwarves also get superior darkvision
Dwarves or Gyth are best casters because medium armor ^^. Superior Darkvision is good for Sorlock (gnome and drow).
Different classes probably are better off with different races, but if you go full Warlock/Sorcerer/Wizard/Bard these are my picks!
Tiefling ❤
What class?
@@Blood_Ronin fiend warlock 👌🏻🔥
@@Ragnarok6664 very fitting. I'm doing the same when I do my Lock run.

Dragonborn draconic ancestry sorc for that dragon's breath, and AC!
@@Buceops which Dragon type
@@Blood_Ronin Man that's a tough one, probably lightning since it is going to be OP af combined with the 'wet' status effect
@@Buceops lightning for sure will be great.
Human, because, well, I'm a human
almost forgor, the races with more unique dialogue in the game will be Drow/Gityanki/Dragonborn/ThePurpleDwarf, the are the most rare races so get mor edialogue
humans/elfs/dwarfs/halfstuff/gnomes they are generic so expect around the same amount of dialogue some but not so much compare to the list above
OOF not human being bottom, thats a mistake
The racial bonuses are ridiculous. Half orc is so much better than the others, it's insane. I wanna play a halfling paladin, but would lose dark vision, bonus crit damage, extra movement, cheat death, and intimidation bonus. Jesus christ.
Don't power game play what you want lol.
I agree. Imagone a human fighter (assuming they get the extra feat). That would make them so powerful. It truly is a hard balance act
dragonborn backstory because they are not descendent of dragons.
alternative universe where dragons Rule and the "descendent of dragons" are actually SLAVES of the Dragons force to work eventually some escape to our reality, you kinda skipped this little detail they may be humanoid dragons but they HATE dragons.
Im more intrested in lore aspects to be honest 😊
Fun Fact Dragonborns hate Dragons :p its true look it up xD
European race: S tier
Drow is top tier
Had me at drow
yeah okey lucky+bards jack of all traits is deffintly busted
It does not make sens to create this kind of List for a no competitive game. They are all playables and fun. Don’t push people to chose a race they don’t want to play just because it is in S.
I'm not. I even made a video on it. I made this list for fun. I'm sure a ton of people disagree with me.
non of this matters since racial bonus's are gone as if the game stays like it is everyone is gonna be a half elf
I like and dislike the change. I am going Drow on my 1st run just to fit the evil playthrough style. But after I have no idea. Whatever RP I like I suppose.
Only in an rpg can you make a litteral ranking of the races and not be considered a racist monster
Anyway, good video, struggling to pick my Tav's race as a swords bard.
Agreed 100.
Halfling Bard > *
I wasn't sure what class would fit halflings best for an RP run until now. Bard halflings just fit. I'm going to have to make one when I do my bard run.
I have like 10+ character ideas and a Halfing Bard/Rogue is one of them lol.
Now do real life races
Just like the real world, humans are lame.
sad but true
I pre-ordered BG3 and still upset they went against BG1 and 2 using strictly turn based. No matter I will be waiting until probably around Christmas time to play I order to wait for patches and balance changes
Now rank real life races
Lmao I don't want my account to be banned.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👍
lol lore and talking doesn't mean shit for there rank. first time ranker i see
So not true.
What?! Races are going to be irrelevant in release? Where did you get that?
This is false. The attribute bonuses are no longer racial, but other racial bonuses are still present.
@@helsharidy123 So they want your class not to condition your race. That's pretty good, as long as they keep the races unique.
This is only semi true. The spells and proficiencies are still there.
No one is going to play human, human sucks.
