Howzit Bru. i also get those little pieces and found that if you use a paint strainer to strain your Epoxy hardener it helps. the hardener seems to for small crystals and also makes it difficult to get rid of bubbles in the glassing process. try it and see if this helps.
Hi mate, yeah those little bumps are most probably dust particles hard to not get them when you shape in the same room as you glass. I have the same happen to me haha. What do you print you're logos onto and do you just chuck them through the home printer?
Hey thanks man, well shoot I’ll definitely start wiping down all my boards before hot coating! I print just using my home printer on this rice paper from amazon, works great, looks super clean when glassed. The only disadvantage is that you can’t print the color “white” on your average home printer. Normal household printers leave white areas blank since the paper is white, however when glassing rice paper the rice paper turns transparent. I've just started shaping (done about 6 boards, all PU) but from what i understand the bumps could be fish eyes maybe? happens when touching the board with just hands, or little particles that get stuck on the board like when you cut out the fin boxes after lam but before hot coating. Happened on my last board majorly when i installed futures after lam and before hot coating. Try using denatured alcohol to rub down the board before the hot coat. There's also a fb page 'backyard surfboard shapers' that are all super helpful and knowledgeable and may have a better idea then me haha
Brad heck ya man, 6 boards in is no joke! That’s a ton of shaping/glassing! Thanks for the insight that’s interesting, i touch my boards all over and my garage definitely is dusty while board building. I’ll wipe down the heck out of my boards and see how it goes! Also sweet fb resource, hadn’t heard of that, definitely going to check that out
Hey awesome job your doing there, u asked about a fish eyes earlier how to prevent it..... I dont know if u use poly or epoxy, me personally I'm an epoxy guy, theres that thing for Epoxy called additive F it prevents fish eyes and you can add just a little micronballons and lil tiny bit of gabosil when you are doing colors, plus Additive F soaks the fiber cloths alot better
Hey thanks man! Im an epoxy guy through and through, and I LOVE and have been using additive F (should have included in video)! Finally tracked down the problem, I used to sweep the shop just before glassing and would kick a bunch of dust into the air, dust was accumulating on my lams before hot coating and then getting in my hot coats. Now I wipe down laminated boards with alcohol or acetone before glassing and don't kick dust into the air before/during/immediately after glassing. Now my boards are coming out with few or no fish eyes!
Microwave your Epoxy 10 seconds then add F additive, not before. This is my guess. They seem to be a little tiny pieces of clumped up wax coming from out of nowhere with in the epoxy. so my guess is the additive reacts with the microwave. If you’re wondering why I microwave it’s to loosen up the viscosity of the Epoxy to release air bubbles quicker. later on while sanding these little pockets will catch hard to remove sanding dust that is not favorable on color boards.🤙🏼
EPS, harder to work with but i glass epoxy with extra cloth so they come out sooo strong, seriously rarely ever pressure ding my boards even after months of surf 🏄🏼♂️🙌🏻
Do you seal your boards before you glass them because I’ve heard that the color get darker and lighter when you use and eps blanks and it comes out with weird shades do you have any tips on how to get the eps blank really smooth before glassing?
Good question, it depends. If I’m going to use a pretty opaque color like this board i don’t bother sealing it, any little bead pullouts that hold more resin and thus more color can easily be seen with lighter more translucent colors. So i seal with z-seal for light colors but for very opaque colors you can actually just skip that step and glass👍🏻👍🏻
@@RockandSeaGarageBoardShop Yes !! Your vídeos are really Helping me to eventually push my self to make my self a board. 🤙🏻keep it UP dude. God bless you !
What the heck right!!! I’ve figured out that part of the problem is dust particles settling onto the hot coat and coalescing together into tiny bumps, now I’m just careful not to sweep the shop or kick up any dust while hot coating, also i wiped down boards with acetone right before hot coating. Second regarding the bubbles what the heck epoxy😂😂!! I bought a huge torch and blast the whole board after every hot coat now, seriously makes a big difference! Hot coats are coming out so smooth and perfect now
looks like a fun time in Hawaii! Sweet board too
Thanks!!
Cool!

@@RockandSeaGarageBoardShop i think you can add surfacing agent called addative F to the resin and it should help

Crap epoxy why it bubbles, use a propane torch to pop them before they set
