    Great video man. Am working on my very first surfboard at the moment. I have two questions: where did you get the Carbon Fiber reinforcements and also what did you print the pictures that were glassed on on?

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop
      @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop 4 года назад +1

      Hey heck ya man, the first one is the very most special! Here is the carbon fiber “vector net” i use shapersupply.com/collections/vector-net/products/xp-227-vector-net-reinforcement, you just use your normal printer at home and use this rice paper. When you glass it the paper turns translucent and you can only see what you printed shapersupply.com/collections/rice-paper/products/rice-paper. Super cool

    Awesome work!! Getting ready to shape my first board, similar to this one, a 7'0 x 21-1/2" x 2-3/4" long fish with swallow tail, and really would like to set it as quad but struggle a bit finding the right measurements for fin placement. Was wondering how far out did you place your front and back fins? just followed the template on your phone?
    Much appreciated!

    Hello amazing video! I've watched loads of videos of people glassing their boards and in most of them you can see the line of the bottom fiberglass wrap in the deck. How to you glass it so that it becomes seamsless? Thanks

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop
      @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop 3 года назад +2

      Hey happy to help! So your talking about seeing the edge of fiberglass cloth that has been wrapped around the board? So on clear glass jobs the fiberglass itself becomes translucent and you won’t be able to see the “lap line” (edge of the cloth that has wrapped around the rail). There will be a slight bump at the lap line when you glass that side of the board, you have to sand down the lap line transition slightly to get it perfectly smooth. On Boards with tinted resin the darker colored rails you see are actually the tinted cloth wrapping around. This is called a “cut lap”! Not sure if I exactly answered your question?!

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop

      Hey thanks, EPS is a little trickier to work with but i love it. I use a makita KP0810, it does a great job, eats up foam like a monster. One critique is that for whatever reason EPS builds up a lot of static electricity on this planer more so than other planers. hello...in the lamination process...is the resin mixed with paraffin?? Have you sanded after the laminate to give the second layer??? thank you very much greetings

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop
      @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop 2 года назад +1

      Hey great question! For the lamination stage of glassing a board, you don’t use resin with a wax additive, paraffin or “additive F” for epoxy. The wax additive is mixed in with the resin in the hot coat layer, when you sand a hot coat the wax gives the board a really nice sanded glossy finish. You don’t absolutely need to sand the board after laminating it, the hot coat layer will adhere well to the lamination without sanding, that being said I do typically sand down any sharp edges or high spots along the cut lap, where the fiberglass cloth overlaps top and bottom

    how much epoxy you averagely use making a surfboard (short)?

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop
      @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop 3 года назад +1

      You could probably get away with much less, but to be safe i always end up mixing a lot of epoxy, you use more when glassing 3 layers of cloth and 2 on bottom. I mix 40 oz epoxy for each lamination (both top and bottom), and then i mix another 40 for each hot coat. 🙌🏻🙌🏻. So overall i give myself 160 oz per 6’6 board

    Dude, do you not throw resin under the decals? Would think it would stop them delamming in the future...

    • @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop
      @RockandSeaGarageBoardShop 4 года назад

      Ya your right, most times i roll back the cloth and wet the blank, slap on the decal then squeegee out excess resin, then roll the cloth back over it then proceed with lamination . You can still slowly massage resin through the decal like i did here but it takes way more time and you have to check for any small air bubbles. Honestly we were a little too stoked and rushed into laminating before doing that first😅, spent like 20 minutes making up for that working resin through and squeezing out bubbles 😂👍🏻.

    • @ZAGSurfboards
      @ZAGSurfboards 4 года назад
