'The Rock Artist's Progress' album, featuring guest vocalist Steve Hogarth, and novel of the same name written by Charles Shorwell, due for release in September 2022 on Cherry Red, iTunes and Amazon Kindle. 'The Rock Artist's Progress' album and concept created by Darryl Way.
Curved Air perform "Young Mother" live at Club Citta Tokyo, on January 17th 2009.
Stunning performances all round, with more than a nod to the Psychedelic Rock of the late 60s.
My first musical crush.
Que vocal é esse? Sonja Kristina e Annie Haslam são as deusas do rock progressivo!
Sonja is the greatest female rock singer of all time. I absolutely love this group and have followed them since the first album. Brings back memories of when i saw them at Queen Marys College in 1971. Great stuff.
I did not know Curved Air were still doing what they did best, saw them at Lancaster University in the 70's. What a brill act now........and so many memories
look at her at the age of 60 !!
they still sound refreshing and defentily not old
You Rock Curved Air!Awesome performance, music and song, best wishes!
The Daz Way?
One of my early memories as a 2 year old was learning the names of the colours on the cover of Second Album whilst my mum played the album.
Are all the original band members present? Florian's drumming way ahead of it's time - an under-rated maestro - showing us how it was done long before Neil Peart broke onto the scene.
Par excellence!
Still awesome, thank you very much.
WOW!
stunning performance from all band members
Wow, talk about “Curved Air......”. takes my breath away ....40 yrs later....I was so young when I heard of this group....we did not have RUclips in my day. Thank you for “welling inside “ listening to this tune again.... so incredible after all this time.
Curved air is right...music is so mesmerizing.....love it...timeless
The musicianship here is incredible. WOW!! Thank you for this.
Saw them back in 1971. Phenomenal! Had a poster of Sonja on my wall at uni. She was my "Pictures of Lily".
Fantastic band!
WOW! What a great thing to see them back together here! It's a dream to feel their powerful and yet mellow music soak into my mind yet again!
Saw em for about the 6th time, in Milton Keynes earlier this year, finally played some stuff from Air Cut...magical evening...Tnx guys! you still Rock!

Wow There Tight Sound Just Awesome!!!!!
Beautiful
great video congratulations...
Great band
It sounds really interesting now that her voice is different
i kinda like it
Nice performance from the group. They're in my top 5 for sure, great band. I love Sonia Kristina and Darryl Way is a great violinist, but the band was never the same after Francis Monkman left. Their first three albums are their best in my opinion.....
Francis was my mentor.....very inspiring....nuff said.
Awesome!!!!
good.........................................
That's the fabulous Kit Morgan on guitar
Sonja still has "it" that special something!
I saw these guys at UGA in the early seventies. They opened for ELP.
Yep I was there and graduated from UGA in 1973. I wasn’t sure if Curved Air opened for ELP or Yes as we had some awesome bands play there at Stegeman Colliseum back then.I’m 72 and still have my CA Vinyl albums I rushed out and purchased after I heard that concert.Time sure does fly.
Fuck, this is a trip!!!!!
shes so fucking beautiful....
UNREAL!!! HEAR THAT HENDRIX RIFF THEY PUT IN THARE ANYONE?
YOUNG MOTHER skladba progresivne rockovej skupiny CURVED AIR, ktorej boli Way a Kristina Linwood. Novými hráčmi boli Kit Morgan gitara, Robert Norton klavesy, Paul Sax husle a Chris Harris basová gitara.
Brilliant stuff. Sonja's a bit chunkier than the last time I saw her(over 30 years ago), but that's no bad thing. We're all getting older! And Curved Air Live... I was there, at the Cardiff gig.
Which "Cardiff gig"? Cyncoed College (1971?) or in the Castle?
It was the 1974 (or '75?) gig at the Joint Students Union in Cardiff when "Curved Air Live" was partly recorded. Other parts were recorded at Bristol Uni.
I saw them at sundown edmonton london.........wellshe did end up between chapman and...whoever warble wise
go Kit
@danielpauldavis - if you read the history of the band you will see that the band was created like many great bands from connections through friends during college years. They wrote most of the material on Air Conditioning before inviting Sonja Kristina to join them .
I LOVE THIS SONJA, I have ALL of your albums, THIS is the kind of music, and band I would like to join, or create, I'm a 35 yr long guitar player..YOU , Renaissance,Steely, all part of my favs.. OH this is good..!
A dazzling set of comments, entirely justified
I have a copy of Vivaldi's Four Seasons in Rock by Moe Koffman from 1974
This is so majestic, it makes me wonder why rock history didn't turn out differently. Why didn't Curved Air make it beyond the English Prog Rock ghetto, instead of Pink Floyd and Genesis?
coz they did,nt have the concept vibe down.
Great performers, sweet vibes and compact sound. Alas, the keyboard/piano solo should shine over the rest here and it is very much missed as well as the presence of Francis Monkman. Sonja is awesome, her voice has logically changed though.
I didn"t know they were in Japan!
Well, the performance is very nice,
but "Club Citta, KANGAWA, TOKYO" is very funny!!
Kanagawa is Kanagawa, not Tokyo!
Club Citta is located in Kawasaki (city), Kanagawa (prefecture).
"Psychedelic Rock of the late 60s" except this was early seventies, which is one reason why they didn't catch on, for all their great albums. The other reason was that, in spite of Kristina's superior vocals, the band had been assembled by some record companies trying to capitalize on that "Psychedelic Rock of the late 60s." They were perceived as posers before they even started. It's hard to have worse luck and they've done well anyway.
Nice. But time do not forgive. Hear this song - and the others - in a LIVE 1975 performance ; what a difference (for better) .
I've really really tried to like this band. They have some interesting sound scapes. But there it ends. The albums sound musically disconnected from her vocals like almost she is singing karaoke over the top. Sometimes her vocals sound to nice for a rock based sound? almost like a Sunday church vocal. Yes she is a beautiful women, that's not the point. This band had the backing of the industry after reading alot about them but in the end the songs just didn't cut it and her vocals to be blatantly honest.
Not worth a comment
you really shouldn't.
Cringeworthy lyrics and violin playing imho - but I liked 'Air Conditioning' - the musicianship of Darryl and Francis really made the band and Sonya's lyrics then, were the icing on the very original cake.....
