You are charismatically articulate sir. That's a rare option these days as most parents didn't select that on the order sheet. Instead they choose the 'barely speak English' feature which is standard across the line.

I just bought a 2007 Silverado with the same engine...everything you said is true. The truck isn't so bogged down with electronic control that it is impossible to work on...although I would prefer no electronic control but that's the world we live live in. Love the truck though

My car had stalling issues and turned out to be a bad fuel pressure sensor. Replaced that with an AutoZone part, but broke not even a year later and installed an ACDelco from Rock Auto and no issues since then. The fuel gauge was broken for 3 years and replaced it with a $30 float sensor from AutoZone and it works to a point, but reads accurately.

What a nice truck you've got! I just recently got my vehicle too, a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado z71 crew cab, with a 5.3l V8. It's quite a beast.

  • @bratina501

I call that going from "truckling" to beast. My uncle used to have a 2004 Silverado which was similarly equipped and that thing was massive. Of course it too had the weird style grill, headlight, and hood configuration.

Nice truck. I remember how in high school I wanted a 2500HD Silverado with the 8.1-liter V8 and six-speed manual. Apparently no one else did, so now finding one is a lot like finding a unicorn.
As for touch-screen radios, I've gotten used to mine. It's big and bright and I think it fills its alloted space in the dash in a more attractive manner than the standard sea of buttons. But to each his own, right?

I have a 1995 k1500 chevy truck. The 4l60e transmission went out on it and I debated hard replacing it or selling it.... Well I still have the truck and decided to rebuild it. After some research and purchase of some cheap hand tools I rebuilt the transmission and transfer case, and rebuild the front end for cheaper then I could have ever bought a truck here in Canada. Still running great and plan on keeping it as a project truck come this summer... She getting a second life restoration. I just love chevrolet trucks

My brother had just recently bought a new car as well after the head gasket in his 94 olds had blown. He had bought himself a 2005 Hyundai Turbion, though I nor my grandfather approve much of foreign cars, he had bought it anyway. It's a very nice White coupe with only a 4 Cylinder engine, that still has quite a kick to it. Luckily for me, his 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme is currently being worked on and will be given to me as my first car.

I just love my 2007 Silverado classic LS. 6 cylinder and manual 5 speed transmission. Since it was built late in production, I think it's one of the last manual Chevrolet trucks made. It's engaging and fun to drive. Can I afford a new truck?, yes. I am not letting this one go.

    • @uxwbill
      @uxwbill  4 года назад

So they did make a few stick shift '07 Classic models and it wasn't just "in name only"!
You would be correct. These were the last generation to offer a manual transmission, at least for half and three-quarter ton trucks. (I think the ton trucks held on a few model years longer with a manual transmission choice, but am not sure of that.)
Considering the absolutely incredible amount of Do Not Want and electronic nannying in a modern truck, I'm not giving this one up either.

    • @uxwbill

That is definitely a less common configuration! I've owned a car that was so equipped.
I'm fine with manual windows unless I want to open the one on the passenger's side. That's rather difficult without stopping, which is probably more than I should admit to.

I agree with you on the TPMS. Even a person who knows nothing about car maintenance can easily check the tire pressure every 1-2 weeks. Most TPMS are either sensitive or don't work properly. I have one in my 2010 Impala and it goes off only if a tire or tires get down to 22 psi so if I relied on the system I could be driving months with low air pressure in my tires. Even worse you spend more $ on tires because you need to buy the TPMS for each tire.

  • @YexyYT

My 1994 Ranger is taking a crap on me with Valve seals and cover gaskets. Being a recent college grad it honestly is becoming a headache especially with just getting an apartment. I just landed my first tech job and I just found a 2007 Silverado Classic with the 5.3L V8 for sale near me. The body is in damn near perfect condition. Honestly if it's still there in a month or so, I'm gonna snag it up. It's only at 98k miles. Fingers crossed

    Very nice truck, congratulations!
I bought a 2011 Ranger brand new a little over a year ago. I am of the same mind when it comes to accessories. I have power locks, windows and mirrors, I have a great CD stereo with an aux input, 4 door extended cab, has the 4 litre motor, limited slip, 5 speed auto with overdrive, full HD towing package and love the dark metallic gray color. Yep, it has TPMS which I don't like, but otherwise, love mine. No touchscreen, simple controls and awesome a/c. Love it!

Idk why u like that turn signal thing. I had a cobalt as a loner when my accord was in for inspection. I love the fact that my accord actually has a real cancel button unlike most domestic cars where canceling cruse is done with a pedal that makes a red light go on.

Hay bill I just recently bought a 2003 Chevy s10 short bed 4.3 liter v6 with the 5 speed it only had 92,000 miles on it and I paid 5800 out the door its in very good shape its in loaded model only thing it does not have is power windows and power locks but it has everything else till cruise air condition it has the bucket seats with the full console the real sporty bucket seats. It has got the rims, and the towing package it also has a limited slip differential which I know you said you wish you had on yours I guess it has it because it has the towing package I'm not sure but so far it's been a very good truck I was looking for a smaller truck I had ia F250 four wheel drive but the gas usage was ridiculous in it.it had the 460 V8 also because of your recommendations or should I say the key keepers recommendation I bought a 2010 Lincoln Town Car and I am very happy with that it had 42 thousand miles on it when I bought it in June of 2014 and now I have forty seven thousand on it good car thanks for the advice key keeper

You're not the only one who despises cell phones, my friend. I too am a hold out and actually find them very annoying in general. You can't even go out somewhere without hearing something going 'beep beep' or 'ding ding' or some other crazy effect that I really don't care to listen to. I liked things the way they were before the smartphone zombie apocalypses that we're in right now came to be.

Congrats on the new purchase, kind of sad to hear about the truckling, and who would have thought the bbpoj would be pulling another car home. The keykeeper may want to get the pontiac repaired, otherwise she as in the car might be a mad that he left her sitting around.

  • @SkyNines

I personally like projection style headlights, I have them in my truck and they are amazing. they don't blind people unless improperly aimed, or what not. I have Xenon lights in mine, and I've never been flashed or anything.

    • @SkyNines
      @SkyNines 10 лет назад

      *****
While I won't completely disagree with you on this - I will say that a vehicle equipped with projection lights aimed and leveled right are great, and usually don't bother people either behind or coming the other way.
I do know that driving cars that sit lower to the ground will make it seem like everyone's lights are on high beams and blinding you... When it could be a number of things.
But anyways, to each their own. I respect your opinion. Still like your truck though. How is your gas mileage

    • @SkyNines
      @SkyNines 9 лет назад

Well, If the projection light is done right... It will and is supposed to have an extreme cut-off ( A physical shield inside the light that's supposed to block-out some of the light) but the problem is, So many people have them aimed incorrectly (The cut-off too far up, making it pointless) or they aren't able to compensate for loads in the vehicle, causing it to affect where the cut-off is up high.
All automotive lights made in the last.. probably 25-30 years are supposed to employ a cut-off on the lowbeam side. Park your car, any car close to a wall (about 25feet) and you'll see the cut-off line, It isn't as easily seen or sharp with halogen-reflector lights - But with projection lights, the cut-off is supposed ot be alot sharper.
Anyways... That isn't bad. MY 96 GMC K1500 makes 13mpg no matter what the driving is.

Nice truck Bill. Don't let any detractors ruin your enjoyment. These trucks are great. The only trucks I've seen, (I work at Walmart in the Tire and Lube Dept.) that have the transmission temperature gauge are the HD 2500 and HD 3500 Silverados. It's just so the transmission temp can be monitored when towing a large load. I prefer the floor shifter for the 4X4 too, although mine does have the auto 4X4. Used buyers can't be choosers. LOL. Good looking truck, and my compliments.

I got the crewcab of this year and version , almost nine years and 170,000 miles .But I don't think it has the power for towing with the 3.23 rear diff. I also had the speaker issue all four speakers at once. I put in a set of kickers. other than that I love this truck.

As far as getting a factory radio w/ tape and cd your best bet would be the junkyard. GM used this style radio on a lot of vehicles (Impala, Malibu, Silverado, Trailblazer, etc). I think it was 1st used in 2000 so finding one should be easy.

  • @ATCRyderX

My best friend had a ZR2 S10 and he never had any traction issues in 2wd - I used to drive it all the time. Years ago, I had a 85 Silverado - Fully loaded, Real nice truck, Typical Junk GM with Rust issues but the biggest issue was it was 2WD. I, too, got stuck on WET GRASS on an occasion. I was too busy laughing and burning the tires off on pieces of shingle to be angry with it, however, it would've been an issue if a 2500HD wasn't there to help out a fellow Chevrolet.

My first (and only) experience with TPMS was with what was my dad's, then my grandfather's, and now my uncle's 2002 Buick Regal. It has been good. It's never gone off spontaneously, and has never required maintenance other than the inconvenience of popping the fuse cover and performing the reset process since it doesn't reset itself once the tire is aired back up, but it only happened a few times a year. Flat tires are common for us for whatever reason.... Nails usually.

I too wanted an eco boost, I grew up around ford trucks they have always been very reliable. I am not sure what you are talking about with the turn signals? It must be something specific to the f150's as they are made in Michigan. My f250 is made in Kentucky. It is very easy to use all the controls its fun to drive and the 5.4 3v with 300hp is plenty of power for me. It can get moving real fast if need be

If people really knew their chevy trucks they'd know that they made those in the first half of 2007. They did the same thing in 1999 when the first half of that year they still made the square ones line the key keeper's truck.
Also that's a nice truck you have there! Literally almost everything my 2002 doesn't have haha mine has manual locks, manual windows, no heated rear window, and 2 wheel drive. Not sure if it has limited slip, never checked the code.

Bill, Congratulations on Graduating to a Full Size Chevy! you've got 285 HP at your disposal, (my pop's Current Gen 2009 Silverado has the RPO LY2 4.8 V8 with 295 HP, and if I turn off the Stabilitrak/Traction Control, it WILL Spin the Rear Tires!) and I need to add add my two cents to your Malibu Classic Explanation: they've actually done that Parallel Sales thing TWICE: Once with the Malibu like you said, and they also did it back in 1999 when they introduced your Truck's Body Style.

I agree that Ford's turn signals are goofy at first but you get used to them and I actually prefer them after 31,000 miles in my 2011 F150. I don't know if you noticed but there is no gas cap on the F150. I still don't understand the concept behind that one. I had to order mine to avoid the $40-$50k monstrosities on the lot, and it still has too much electronic junk on it for my taste. It looks like you found a nice used truck.

I drove a F150 as a rental vehicle for a week. The turn signals definitely take some getting used to. It is odd that you had an issue with them not turning off unless you turned the wheel through the full travel, or near it. On the one that I drove didn't do that. Also, OnStar is easy enough to disable, you can either remove the fuse or pull the whole unit out, that is what I did with my 2005 Monte Carlo.

Most recognizable behavior in 'drive by wire' throttle is the gas pedal that does not move when cruise control changes RPMs.
I also neutered my Chevy's OnStar. But I am searching the world wide webs for a replacement antenna that fits the hole, for one that terminates in a VHF/UHF ham radio.
One other comment - power locks and not windows. Was common on commercial fleet truck for utilities, particularly vans with 6 doors.

That's exactly how I feel. Airbags and that sort of things are great when they do their job properly, but it seems that the auto industry is more interested in forming around society in a way where multimedia is more important than the vehicle itself. My tape/CD player is more than enough for me. Looking at the new 2014 Chevy Impala commercial and the touchscreen it has...the driver takes his eyes off the road to look at the screen. (continued)

The radios are coded to the vehicles, and you have to visit your friendly local GM dealer who may charge you nothing or more likely will charge you $100+ to unlock the radio. Or if you're like uxwbill, you can modify the electronics and disable TheftLock. (:

My personal opinion is that you did the right thing avoiding the Ford truck. Whilst I imagine that in practice the Ford EcoBoost V6 and the inline 3 EcoBoost engines are entirely different (in that parts don’t interchange) they do at least share similar engineering concepts. That being the case; the 3 cylinder at least has proven to be quite unreliable in service, particularly where blowing head gaskets are concerned. I also imagine that the V6, especially in a full size truck would require more of a thrashing to unleash its power, particularly when towing or carrying a heavy load (since it relies on a turbocharger to provide its power figure). The V8 in your Silverado will be a far more lazy and torquey motor, meaning less stress in the long run and hopefully a longer service life.
The prospect of a GDI equipped vehicle would scare me to death in the long run, as the system is far more complex ad runs to much tighter tolerances than that of a ordinary fuel injected vehicle. If it’s anything like a common rail diesel, problems will certainly arise with age.
If it’s not entirely obvious, I’m no fan of these new small displacement, high power engines. You just can’t beat having a big engine in a big vehicle.

Thorough and very useful review as a pick up truck is in my future after the lease on my 2012 Chevy Cruze runs out..thoroughly enjoyable. I let my OnStar lapse after the original gratis subscription ran out, along with Sirius satellite radio. I can assure you that the FULL Message Center Programming is there, I've seen on various forums where People have added the Steering wheel buttons, and it WORKED. • @yorgle11

That looks like a great truck. The 4.8 looks like a good deal - simpler than the (IMO ridiculous) Ford V6 design but not overkill as a larger V8 might have been.
I'd have been tempted by the truck you found in Pennsylvania, except for the hassle of retrieving it. I never cared for power windows, they're just a nuisance to me.
I agree with you about OnStar - I feel the same about many other modern devices, and we don't really need any of it. I sometimes think I'm watching the prequel to 1984.

Looks like a real beauty you've got there, Bill. I would agree with you that the 4-speed automatic might have been a better choice. It seems to get the power to the ground better. I drove my uncle's 2012 Silverado, with the 5.3L V8 and 6-speed auto, and to be honest, it felt a little underwhelming compared to my 1994 with the 5.7 and 4-speed auto. The 6-speed kind of feels to me like it's slipping a little, and making extra shifts for no particular reason.

I got like 23-26mpg with good manners in the city, and never bothered on the highway cause it was doin better than any car I drove to date including turbo 4 cylinders! Mine had 4.8L, automatic, 323 locking rear axle, standard cab, short bed. Brought it home with 0.8 on the odometer... sadly I wreacked it at 78,000. From the land where these sort of trucks are the exeception to the norm, I must say I realy did enjoy this longer video you posted Sir Uxw Bill.
Makes me wish that fuel was as cheap here as it is in the US (it varies from $1.27au to $1.60au per liter here, the au$ is gets us $1.03 USD right now so it ranges from $4.83 USD to $6.40 USD per US Gallon).

A GMT800 is a good choice. I was actively looking for a 5.3L 4x4 extended cab with Autotrac back in 2009 only to be stopped by ridiculous sale prices. $8000 for a 200k+ mile truck that was 8-10 years old was crazy at the time.

Nice truck, I have a 1999 Sierra k1500 SL ext cab, it runs and drives great with the 5.3 and a rebuilt transmission, so far it has 140,xxx miles on it.
I am jealous of your 4 doors though, I only have 3 :)

You can get a CD/Tape RDS radio for your truck. Just about and non BOSE RDS radio will work once programmed via a TECH 2 at your friendly GM Dealer. Nice truck. B/C it was a rental, I'd service the trans rear end, transfer case and front and rear diffs. You know your truck well. Shoot me a comment if you need help with any thing. I've owned 4 of these trucks - that's how much I like them!!! :)

Idk if you use the parking break a lot but unless it was redesigned between 05-07 its gonna end up getting jammed. The gauge cluster was also recalled on my dad's 05.

There are also some 99 Chevy/GMC trucks that share the 88-98 body style as well.

Your very picky, just like me. But hey, I never say I am unhappy with something I spent my money on. That is not to say I always get what I want, but it usually at least close!
This is a very nice truck you got. I thought something was strange seeing the inside was similar to my neighbors newer Silverado, yet the body looked otherwise. That cooling system design is the same as my Volkswagen. No rad cap, just an expansion tank. Never understood the difference between this setup and traditional.

So what is this one's nickname going to be? The Brownerado? Except for the tire noise, it seems very quiet on the road. Does the radio not have a stereo indicator for FM? And does the fleet model not have daytime running lights, or did you disable them?

  • @wtbm123
    @wtbm123 11 лет назад

Yes 4x4. Equipped much the same as yours but a 5.3 and push button 4x4 are the only main difference. I did not get lucky enough, to get a stick shifted 4x4 . But 3.73 gears and 265/75/16 tires.

Well a friend of my dads. a Mouth ago he got a 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab. It is the same red as your dads 1998 Ford F150 that you dad got. It has the 5.7 Hemi V8. It's in very nice shape no rust. But it does need to be wash and clean. Since it is his work truck. And it replace they old Chrysler Grand Voyager from the 90's. He got it almost 2 years ago from the cars Minstery at my church. But it died. But he sold it to his cousin. He had a 1996 or a 1998 Dodge Ram 3500 with the V10 engine. I don't know if he still has it or if he got rid of it. But man the V10 it was very bad on gas. And it was rusting away!!

I agree with a lot of your tastes in vehicles. I also hate touchscreen radios (mostly because of the bright screen... I work in IT and see enough screens all day), no Onstar, etc. I also hate the new headlights. We're ruining eyes with all the bright headlights, LED taillights/brake lights, touch screen radios, computers, tablets.... Anyway. Another thing I hate is now speedometers go higher and higher when speed limits don't, head rests are too far forward now making me feel slouchy.

BTW-The only two fleet buyers for any of the classics where Hertz or Enterprise, with Enterprise buying most.. Enterpise probably entered into a contract with GM and offered them X dollars and GM decided to keep the tooling and sell them this, rather than take a hit on there new offerings... Although, I seem to recall a number of Classics floating around chevy dealers in 07 when I bought my horrible Colorado... The reason was Enterprise Ordered too many and Hertz didn't need them

I totally agree. I would love to buy a new truck, but I don't need a touch screen radio, or parking sensors and back up camera and all that electrical shit. All I want is power locks and windows. and the 5.3L

My 1998 Saturn sw1 has a cap that says to not open hot, but I do it anyway. Believe me, when you get a low coolant light, and you are in the middle of nowhere, you don't want to wait for it to cool, as I had to do yesterday.

I saw in a test that those e-fans moves about 6,000 cfm, the mechanical fan on the older trucks(99-04) only moved 2,100 cfm at idle and needed around 1800 rpm to reach 6,000 cfm. 2,000 rpm and higher and the mech fan starts to blows the e-fan away (7,000 cfm) and by the max of around 4k rpms its moving 14,000 cfm, so for low speed/idle the efan is superior but for towing in hills the mech is superior. mech burned around 21 hp while e-fan uses no more then 1 hp. the HD trucks still use the mech

Absolutely right!!! It 100 percent is a 07. I have the LS. Also got the topper to match. I pick, and resale a lot. Invest its my tool. Just sold a dirtbike out of it.... its nice to be able to lock it in the bed and strap it down. I have a family member that works with GM. I just had to say I couldn't help myself. I just could not agree more. I just recently bought it. Just as you said I don't care for all the extras. Only thing touched that's not stock. Is the ARE custom topper. Oh also has the 2012 Chevy stock hubs on wheels ... Very nice lock for storage. Does have a great tow package. However this is not my industry. You know much more about GM than I. My question please. My 07 Chevy Silverado 1500 Classic extended cab LS... I know it's absouluety a strong V8 Vortec... Is it a 4.8 L engine that I have??? Please thank you for your time. Love your truck. I wish I could show you some pics. I'm smart too. Just not in this industry. Just like you said I like good AC, nice stereo. Ok 4.8 Liter. I was typing as you were talking. Thank you. Beautiful. I would love to just hear you talk I mine. And I've made so much money. It's such a great tool. I love it!!! Mine is mint. And I mean I baby it. I never speed never. Of anything. If smaller areas I go slower. Great video. It's crazy. Everytime. I think of a question. You already mention it. You got an American Man's Workin truck. Not rampling!!! You got the best damn truck you can get in my opinion.... love it!!! It is just a good a time bro. Just got done unloading mine. For work tomorrow. Why does mine have 4 handle's? If you get time. I know your busy. Myself as well. Thanks for your time Sir!!! It's late. And damn straight. Mary my truck! Just like you said bat outta hell!!! Your awesome man. Thanks for all your questions. I didn't have to ask much. Since you answered every question I could think of. Couldn't agree more! Just so you know brother. I was born in Monmuth, IL right by Galesburg. Or about an 1hr and a half from Peoria, IL. My truck idles at about 800 RPMs. Thats great. Mine is mint. 80K miles. No rust. Straight GM stock!!! I love it. With the topper and screens. If I didn't have family. Mary is big enough to live in! Thanks again. I'll get a lot of miles on this truck it's all highway miles, and garage keep. Your smart. Me too I shopped I finally financed after looking at 5 GM model pick ups. I found my baby. Will she get almost 300K you think? I mean. When my GM family looked at it. He told me. We'll aslo kinda helped that we're I bought mine. My unless been in parts for 30 yrs. I have to drive GM. Of course I could have a Camaro. And get dealer cost on parts. But I freaking love this American truck! Couldn't go wrong brother! My name's Austin for future reference.

I'm spending the evening watching some of your older videos as there is absolutely nothing on TV tonight. I was wondering if any of the multitude of recent GM recalls have applied to your truck? Also I was noticing that you used to make many videos out at the farm but I can't remember the last time you made one out there or even mentioned it.
