I’m talking about the pat on the back at work, making it to the next round of job interviews, or even perfectly replicating your grandma’s recipe for dinner. Why haven’t you been celebrating the small wins?
Growing up, we’re told what we are supposed to do. Like, we’re supposed to get good grades or we’re supposed to blend in at work. You don’t get any extra credit for that because that’s what you’re supposed to do. Wrong.
You deserve to be celebrated.
The more you celebrate yourself, the more you trust yourself to be your most authentic self. And like this week’s guest, your most authentic self can change and grow with you everywhere you go. James has been a teacher, a tech marketing lead, and a retail store manager. No matter his career, he always had to relearn the lesson that having his own back and being his most authentic self was of the utmost importance.
James O’Brien is a born and raised New Yorker with a background in retail, academia, and the start-up ecosystem. He specializes in long-term strategy, systematization, and working cross-functionally -- all while keeping people & community at the center of his work.
In this week’s episode, James shares how he stays true to his most authentic self while also learning to trust himself. Whether that means wearing more comfortable clothes while teaching or congratulating himself on killing it at a job interview, he’s learned that he can only get to where he wants to be by believing in himself. And to do that, he’s learning how to celebrate the small wins.
