I think the main reason behind living a long life is a stress free life and clean environment. I'm from the Himalayan region of India and our grandparents live long too. Nigerian here; My grandfather lived to 114, born in 1900 and died in 2014. He ate whatever he liked but didn’t eat past 7pm. He fasted 40 days when he was in his 30s. Once in a while he would fast even as he got older. Never had dementia or any major disease. Drank a shot of whiskey for his stomach upset. Remarried at age 106! Honestly i think it’s the little things. Some people do all the right things and still die young. Lifestyle like stress level and genetics play a role too. Few of his family members died in their 100s too. My grand uncle 115, great grandma 105. They didn’t eat anything special but I heard their foods were more natural. I wish everyone a long, healthy and happy life. Thanks for sharing your recipe! ❤❤❤

My mom is 101 and in quite great health. She is still smiling, recognizes people, and still tries to be funny and laugh about silly things. She was very poor most of her life and mostly ate the seasonal and local fresh foods. Little red meat, if ever, and very heavy on legumes for protein. Fresh everything, not cooked. By that I mean fresh unprocessed veggies and fruits. I am so thankful for her example. She is and has always been wise way before any “food fads.” Also wise and visionary. She was very close to God ask her life, and her prayers and communion with Him were always long conversations. She prayed for everyone she knew, especially us, her 4 daughters. Never discount the power of a mother’s prayer because I’ve been blessed thanks to her pleading to the Father. I’m thankful for her example of gratitude throughout her life, in spite of her circumstances. She’s been a great mom.

In a large pot, combine the garlic and onion with 1 to 2 tablespoons of water, and saute until softened, approximately 3 minutes.
Add the carrot, celery, potato, dried oregano, salt and pepper. Saute until the potato and carrot have softened, approximately 6 minutes.
Add the vegetable broth, diced tomatoes, chickpeas and pasta. Bring to a boil, then simmer uncovered for 12 to 15 minutes, until the pasta is cooked. Garnish with fresh parsley as desired.

Washed his own clothes by hand too. (I double checked with the husband and I got his grandfathers age wrong by a year. To be clear they are the longest living populations because of the way the plants are grown, the environment, and the culture. You can't just toss together vegetables that are genetically modified (not that all genetic modification is bad but the rapid change we are doing recently is not tested long-term), sprayed with pesticides, grown in soil that is chemically enhanced, and population in the area is sky high. They are from places that still locally grow most of their diets and a decent part of their food is even garden grown. They have a good mix of modern medicine and older style of food sourcing. They have a moderate climate and a culture that supports self-care and moderate exercise Daily. So no eating a soup with the same name ingredients that you buy at a American supermarket is not the same thing. Not that it's not way better than McDonald's but I don't want people to have the impression they will get the same result if they eat this soup everyday

Genetics has a lot to do with it as well as low stress. Despite having a fall induced brain injury, my mother still lived to the age of 99. My grandmother was 94 and my great grandmother was 99 when they passed. All of my uncles lived to nearly 90 before they passed as well. And they were average, everyday people who enjoyed life and loved soul food. Almost nobody went to fast food joints and home cooked meals (including all kinds of "bad" meats lol) were a part of everyday life. Its all about genetics people. No reason not to eat all wonderful things in moderation. But as a career nurse working in oncology among other medical surgical areas, I've seen that some of the healthiest minded people still suffer from cancers. The amount of patients who have lamented to me asking "why me I ate healthy, ran marithons, never smoked...". Its sad but we are what we were made from. We are here because our ancestors were atrong but we still have an expiration date which is been proven to be cellular. I've learned you need to enjoy your life and do what you think is right for YOU. Its ignorant and not helpful to judge people for their life choices such as smoking or obesity. There may be environmental triggers that when a person is exposed gives that person cancer but not another who was exposed to the same thing. I've seen it as a nurse, so I'm sharing my hard earned knowledge and research. Part of my job has been assessment, asking questions and making family trees. Life is short enjoy it.

This soup looks absolutely fantastic!! 🎉. I will be making a big pot after Thanksgiving. I did want to say, however, that the difference between the “greens, beans, and grains” in Italy from the past and even today (most of Europe and the Netherlands, as well, etc.) and the foods here in U.S.A., now, is astronomical.
We have so heavily sprayed our crops, created the GMO’s that are not healthy, that our produce have found ways (that are not healthy for our bodies) to survive and defend themselves. We have created😮some real frankenstein crops out there, esp. wheat!
I buy only flour and noodles imported and as much grass fed and organic as possible; but is often quite expensive! I won’t eat oats anymore. We grow a little of our own; but, we don’t have a lot of space.
Its a heartbreaking fact, but true. We cannot trust our own produce or most of our own foods. Don’t ask me what the answer is, I didn’t start the fire. 😔😢 Buy from local farmers markets and support local small establishments as much as possible?

One of the main problems that we face is not having access to grains, produce and just about any food group that isn’t chemically treated or grown. The fast harvest approach is killing us. The chemicals that are used to make our foods “look pretty” diminishes the health value of what we eat :( I’ve got family and friends that live outside the states and they either have a change in their health when they come back to the US or visit or notice the difference in how they feel while eating our foods and drinking our water :(

My boyfriend’s great aunt lived to 105. She was still sharp enough and physically agile/flexible to drive when she was 101. (People frequently thought she was in her 80s and very fit when she was in her 100s) One thing notable about her, that he had mentioned was that she was NEVER angry or mad. In her photos she always had an angelic smile, and glowed. One interesting thing she had for her diet was she made her own “live, raw” probiotic kraut in a stone crock. She’d make a big batch of it every month. She also had legumes daily and generally ate a Mediterranean type diet. I’m trying to eat more like she did.

She still walks, talks, sings, dressed nice and is built like she is 30! She is a praying 😂woman too!!! So, the Lord has kept her in her right mind raising 10 children being poor...but God! I think the secret to longevity is not overeating, these people that live a long life their food was better quality growing up got better guthealth etc , how is it that some people eat a ton of meat or fish like icelanders and live very long lives , has to be quality , and just because food is quality doesnt mean you can eat whatever you want everyone body is differenr some peoole truly do better without meat maybe becauee prone to cholesterol etc some do better without so many grains sugar prone to blood sugar problems , most people are just average and can eat without problems but i dont always think vegetables = longevity , plenty of vegans die early , i think if you feel better eating that way than do it especially if you have genetic predisposition and i also noticed the older generation dont over eat i personally think thats the secret , over eating causes toxins and we all know what toxins escalate into
