glue is useless on a broken cross cut. your screw will come out in a month or so. buy a long dowel from home depot and replace the whole piece. dilettante work.

At first I thought you were gonna replace the whole spindle but then you fixed it the same way I would have .
I would have put some wood glue on the upper spindle too, since it was pulling away for extra strength.

I have done the exact same thing…. Any suggestions for a split in the middle of the spindle …. The best I have come up with is… when it diagonal split …. Glue. Small hose clamp in middle of split Tiny screws near the ends of the split
