Heh... I also watch Early Music Sources, having an interest in early music. Frankly, there's some wild stuff there, when you bring it to modern times. Like the chromaticisms of Carlo Gesualdo (and other chromatic Italian madrigalists), and the fluid sense of meter caused by making the music subordinate to the words.
A few years back I wrote a song where the verse uses Morse code to dictate pitch rather than rhythm, creating a "random" oscillation of two notes in each chord. The simple assignment of an eighth note for each dot/dash with an eighth rest to separate letters was simple, but the length of the message required a 3-measure cycle of 4+4+6.

oh man, thank you for this... it kickstarted my inspiration. funny thing is how i'm 100% aware of validity of searching for patterns and ideas outside of music, but still fail to incorporate them into writing. laziness, lack of motivation, i don't know why it's often like that... you are a great teacher, every time i visit your channel i get another confirmation of that.
Very Cool on the Morse Code discovery... hate to admit, I came up with this idea back in the 1990s, I was a Radioman in the USCoast Guard, had to do a lot of it.. I noticed the rhythmic patterns back in the 1970s, and finally figured out a way to do it.. it's tricky because of note values.. so it's a choice to go with what ever tempo you want using whatever schema: whole/half notes; half/quarter; quarter/eighths; eighths/16ths, etc... gives you more melodic berth.. hehe.. Funny you find this now.. I guess the universal mind is connected.. math rockers, you heard my idea.. good job.. sigh.. wanted to leave a special message to humanity that no one would find for 300 years.. Thanks Mozart
Cool video, you're a good composer, performer and teacher. Keep up the good work Would be good to get a video on the grey areas between composing and performing. What I'm getting at is 'original' band vs cover band, and does that make you 'less of a musician', but then theres classical musicians who rarely play their own music. In the classical world there's more of a distinction between performer and composer, yet I'm sure all good classical composers were reasonable performers. And then you have eletronic music, a friend of mine is an up-and-coming dj, the music snob in me want's to cast shade, but he's creating music, and performing it live, yet the lines between composing and performing become somewhat blurry. Would love to hear your take on the whole thing, maybe do a vlog with someone like Adam Neely.

Cool information about the hidden meanings within the riffs. I'm working on a few concepts that do something similar, however I have to construct some paper and acetate tools that are going to be put on poster board that works something like the circle of fifths wheel dial but has few other functions fpr figuring out how keys, scales, and chords are going to be calculating another function and meaning outside of the above by turning these wheels I get combinations for another related hidden meaning visually. Great guitar modes and scales. Have a wonderful rest of your day.

Maybe a dumb ass question. But in the term "odd time signature" Does *odd* mean un-even numerical, or strange. Because to me, 10/8 would be a pretty "odd" time signature, so I personally view it as the latter option. Is there an "official" definition?
I view the term as referring to uncommon time signatures, i.e. ones that aren't 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, etc. 3/4 has a non-even count, but it's so commonly used that I wouldn't call it odd.

But in the term "odd time signature"
Does *odd* mean un-even numerical, or strange.
Because to me, 10/8 would be a pretty "odd" time signature, so I personally view it as the latter option.
Is there an "official" definition?
non standard meter.
I view the term as referring to uncommon time signatures, i.e. ones that aren't 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, etc. 3/4 has a non-even count, but it's so commonly used that I wouldn't call it odd.
