    The USB-C on the left are TB4, so better than USB 3.2. They're essentially the only connection you need for a display such as the U2724DE which itself has a variety of ports.

      100% agree, I deployed some last week with a docking station,.
      What makes me sad is that I reviewed a $199 Chromebook about 8 months ago and that had fully functional USB C ports on both sides. This laptop starts at $2k and goes up to $8K.
      We should have least two ports on each side of the laptop.
      Its pretty awesome when I can make a decision based on the client desk setup, which side I connect what device.

    The absolute peak of the Precision series was the M6800. Just two screws and no pry tool needed to get under the bottom cover, every single component is user replaceable, every major component is socketed, all the ports and slots you could need (for the time). It could also take four internal storage devices in dedicated slots, or up to eight with sacrificing components in some other slots. And that's just INTERNALLY!

      I had a M6800 as a new laptop working as a service tech, it lasted forever, and was designed and built great!

    I wonder if the 7000 series Precision would closer meet your high standard expectations.

    its funny because on a big screen, I would prefer a high resolution if Im looking at lots of text. Text gets blurry on big FHD screens. So their reasoning seems off to me and certainly not good on the eyes. Although Im not sure what the other alternative on this model is, a 2.5K, 2560 x 1600 resolution seems perfect for these laptops. Thanks for this review! I wish there were affordable prosumer laptops here in EU that are configurable like these since they get expensive on the business side. Edit: On that note, I just picked up a 'used but practically not used' Dell Latitude 7440 with i7 1365U, 32GB RAM, WUXGA 400 nits display for 700 eurobucks! I am going to use this while waiting for the new Thinkpad P14s Gen 5 AMD to drop which has OLED and upgradable RAM configs!!

      700 eurobucks?? Now that was a great find! Latitude 7440 is a great machine with that 32GB of ram, it will last for a long time.

      FHD is required if one wants to get anywhere close to some decent battery life with x86 laptops. When I am out in the field, I need the laptop to last 6-7 hours as a terminal hooking up into various equipment, doing some coding, and this can actually deliver that. I don't need any high res option for that, and a higher res screen would simply chug through the battery. Same with OLED. Yeah, that's the state of things nowadays, I am actually glad Dell still offers the option, I am coming from an XPS 15 7590 which I had the FHD screen there as well for the same reasons. In fact, it's one of the reasons I decided to stick with Dell, and not go with the ThinkPad X1E/P1, for example (that, and the fact that Dell can actually cool and keep this silent, while Lenovo's cooling on those models is atrocious).

      @@vali20vali20vali20 normally yes but in 2024 the norm should not be 'get lower res for good battery life'. We already see Apple being able to do this, and now with the new qualcomm, intel and amd chips you get both battery life and crisp resolutions so your eyes dont get messed up while working in the field looking at bunch of text.

    Do not go for this Dell crap. The fan is screaming all day long in my Precission 5550 I even throtteled the cpu to 85% doesnt help too much. Intel CPUs suck af.

      @Scott.The.IT.Guy.  3 месяца назад

      I can give you multiple reasons why not to buy this laptop, but the fan is not an issue here. It works as it should and only when it needs to. When I am pushing the laptop to it`s limit, yes the Fan is loud but as soon as it`s done, it`s silent. I can see at Dell that multiple people have the same Fan problem with the 5550.
      Under the Dell Power Manager application can you set Thermal Control scheme to "Quiet"?

    Now that nVidia cancelled the Quadro GPU, there's no point in the Dell Precession anymore. It's now a useless niche device. You are better off with a gaming laptop.

      We have the RTX Ada series. In this laptop you can go up to RTX 5000 Ada for only as low as $2140 😊
      I have an old Quadro P4000, any graphics related software I use on my desktop supports gaming cards. Some of them are much better value than the professional cards, but I am sure that is not the case for everyone.
