Hi Billy, i'm a steelwork draughtsman and a time served fabricator and i'll say that the notching looks spot on! I will say its quite easy for the beam to tip over when lifting like that, so when lifting the next one i would recommend clamping the bottom flange of the beam to the lift so that the beam can't tip over or move around on the lift when lifting or moving the lift around! Great job though!
I was thinking the same thing. Needs to be clamped to the forks. I think that you were genuinely alone for once. You really do need a second person with you when working at heights to get help if anything untoward happens.
I keep thinking what will the next owners think of the “bones” of the convent when they do their renovation or remodel in another 250 years. That will be the year 2274 WOW. Hope you leave some time capsules and pictures of you and the crew. What a treat that would be for a future Billy to find and see Dad, Billy, Yannis, Rick and Phil the welder.
You have to be part Scottish. My father always said I was a hard headed Scot. I like to prove that I can do things on my own. You did a fantastic job Billy!!
I stopped breathing watching you Billy. My goodness you had me worried. Please do things like that with other people around. Accidents can happen and I certainly don’t want anything to happen to you. It was a great feat to get it done and I don’t want to take that away from you but safety comes first before anything. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Billy - I’m the guy out here who supports you doing this work alone! Great job. Piece of cake. You’re still alive. Gotta love what happens when you film yourself for everyone & anyone to see
Well done Billy. You are an adult and know what you are doing. It gives you a sense of satisfaction doesn’t it when you’ve achieved something as monumental as that. 👏👏👏 it would drive me crazy having these people preach to me all the time about what they think I should do.
I sure do enjoy watching your channel, I love the music you play as it is so easy to listen to and the guys you have around you are hardworking - and very happy. I am so happy you to have your dad involved in your projects especially at 80 years old. My dad has been gone for the last 5 years now, and when he stopped working it was like he called it quits, anyway watch over your dad, he's a precious soul. Great day to you all from the Grand state of Texas.
Billy it would be wise to do dangerous tasks like this on days the rest of the crew are present for safety concerns. You could get all of the beams cut and prepared but lifting them into position by yourself could have devastating consequences for your family.
Billy, you and your family are so loved by y subs, please have a spotter with you when you want to do these big tasks.. Our hearts may not be as strong. Blessings forward.
It’s fascinating to watch you do this job by yourself. It’s clear you have thought through every step. As someone who does building projects at my home, alone, I really appreciate someone doing difficult task solo!!!
Really, really love watching you create such amazing and beautiful spaces. Your videos give me inspiration to continue working on my projects on my small property. Great job getting the beam cut and tack welded!
I think this job is going to be beautiful in the end and I realize that you want to finish a project quickly so that you can get onto the next but I also think that safety is paramount in the this situation. You have a great day
I can only imagine the people on here watching you and your channel who would be and vicariously through these videos feel as if we are your "Buddies" at heart at least. We all watch in anticipation of what comes next, we just do not want a solo episode to be your last, or ours either...take care, BE SAFE and as always "CRACK ON MR PETHERICK!"@@ThePethericks
I notice you use OSB a lot. Must be way better in Europe than it is in the states! Here, if it gets wet at all it starts to come apart. We call “three foggy morning” wood. Cause it won’t last four foggy mornings!
I completely agree. I’m wondering what happened to his crew? Are they on vacation? Or he couldn’t afford to pay them? Or maybe they got wind of what he was planning to do and they walked away for fear of liability? Who knows?
I also agree that this was very unsafe. Thankfully nothing happened and you got your work done. We all know you can do it, Billy, you can do most things that you set your mind to. And do them well. This seems so unlike you, though. Please work safe! 🤗
I appreciate the work ethic. That said what I saw is a lot of unsafe practices. Maybe you'll dodge them 99.99% of the time. But that 0.01%, trust me when I tell you that isn't something you want to experience...
I have been wondering about the placement of the I-beams over the lintels…if perfectly level the load is born on the locations where the beams are into the masonry. It really calls for a C along the walls with the window and bolted into the wall, but if you add a cross and embed each end it then takes that load off the lintels which really are not supporting it properly as it is.
Was able to really see how all the windows around the area your working in light it all up. Turning out to be an amazing area. I think its a guy thing ya'll to do things on your own. Just be safe. Would like to see everyone together at the end of this project. 😊
I agree with ALL of the safety comments , I would have gotten the beams cut then raise them when others were there to help . Also I would coat the beams with rust inhibiting paint .
Incredible job Billy! I have no doubt that you gave a lot of thought and planning before attempting to do this solo. Now on to party central to celebrate the patriarch of clan Petherick. 🥳🍾🥂🎼👍
Even for cutting mild steel, if you use some lubricant, like WD40 in the US, you will cut faster and kill fewer blades. I learned then when I had to cut some cast iron sewer pipes. The blade was still like new after 5 cuts!
Ah nice, the ole 'nails on a chalkboard' sound effect to grab our attention right at the outset. lol. Whatever gets you closer to 400K subscribers!! I hope you reach that very very soon.
Request please: Billy, we all know you are extremely busy,; however, would you do the hard of hearing and deaf community a huge favor when posting your videos? I’m not sure if you or RUclips automatically does this, but would you please make sure the closed captions are available for your videos.? We love your channel, but need the captions to follow along. Thanks so much and keep cracking on!
Beautiful restoration process happening- my question… do u Plan to live there & what are you plans for all those dormers/bedrooms - rental? Lol The kitchen island is gorgeous! This would be a great place to recoup your investment as a wedding or ball room venue in the largest rooms- perhaps a chef kitchen also for catering? So many ideas for this place
Yikes, Billy…..doing that kind of work alone would be a BIG NO NO in the USA. OSHA…Occupational Safety and Health Administration would be all over you. PLEASE be extra careful….from Pennsylvania USA 💕🌷🐻
You could absolutely do it. If it's your own project. It's for companies and employees. Private parties and do it yourselfers are not covered by OSHA. But you should be careful.
OSHA wouldn't do a thing for himself doing it for his own personal project. That is not how OSHA works. Now if he made Yanis do this alone, yeah OSHA would step in. That said, yeah that was irresponsible and dangerous. If it fell, and fell on top of him, he could have easily died because there was no one there to get help for him. And sad how many are cheering on that irresponsible behavior too.

I was thinking the same thing. Needs to be clamped to the forks.
I think that you were genuinely alone for once. You really do need a second person with you when working at heights to get help if anything untoward happens.
I agree, the author of the film lacked imagination.
@@frankjohnson7204 Why, after all, the author of the film is a tough guy. He doesn't need any help, he will do everything himself.
@@ThePethericks Was the lift grounded when you welded these structures, probably not.
I love the music you have been using of late. Mellow and ethereal.
I’m thinking the same thing
I'm getting some "escape to rural france" vibes here 😅
Me too b
Amazed at the endurance of the saw blade.

They did a time capsule. It’s in a cavity under the floor, by the fireplace, in the kitchen.
There are more time capsules to come, besides the one in the hearth of the kitchen fireplace
Thought I was watching an episode of Escape to France 😅 great work Billy ❤️
Another favorite channel of mine.

Fantastic progress

Hello. I wish your father and family laughter and smiles during the weekend. Eighty years young and still getting it! Awesome.
I would have been really nervous working on that alone. Great Job, Billy!
Congratulations Billy on your One-man-Show. Today! I could really feel the pleasure you had in “doing it yourself”!
Billy it would be wise to do dangerous tasks like this on days the rest of the crew are present for safety concerns. You could get all of the beams cut and prepared but lifting them into position by yourself could have devastating consequences for your family.
Agreed!
Please, not alone. I have seen the worst case scenario here.
Remember when doing anything that you have a family that loves and needs you. Safety first.
This is the worst part of putting yourself out on RUclips. Everyone has an opinion.
Billy, you and your family are so loved by y subs, please have a spotter with you when you want to do these big tasks.. Our hearts may not be as strong. Blessings forward.
All those flying sparkles almost make me put on safety goggles
Agreed.
loved the flash last video of what the balcony walkway etc will look like.,
Scaring me to death with that above your head!

Hey Billy if you're planning on boting L brackets you might want to rent or buy a magnet oppress. It will make drilling holes easier.
This type of work you should always have a buddy system.
I haven’t got any buddies

Need to get a professional in to do those structural welds, extremely expensive and dangerous not to. Superb video, love them .

You got impatient didn't you Billy? You drop one of those I Beams off the lift and you'll create a new access to the cellar! Stubborn man!
You definitely made my heart rate go up!
Oh, Billy. Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. That kind of job should never be done by alone. To many things could have gone wrong.

Clean/grind off all rust and forge scale before welding!
You've got balls doing this alone
You should watch escape to rural France, the earlier days 🙈
Because he isn’t a pro welder by trade, if there is such a thing as a building inspector in France, I don’t know if the work would pass inspection?
