Imagine being THAT privileged that you refuse to go to class because you want to “protest” something that was normal less than 35 years ago. In addition, I don’t recall students protesting in various Asian, Mideast, African and European countries. This is why students who “graduate” from American schools can’t compete with their global peers!!!
They compete fine. International students choose American schools and International businesses still choose American expatriates. They choose the U.S. because the students are not homogeneous and use to multiculturalism. Unlike many countries that are stuck on stupid and xenophobic ..the best businesses can work and thrive profitably anywhere.
With that same logic, protesting discrimination (which was normal 50 years ago) is considered privilege. Grow up. It's 2024. Times have changed and you can either get with it or get lost.
@RyanCunningham-tw4wd Those are valid points and well stated. Unfortunately, I can only go off of what my experiences have taught me. During my time in High School there were no cellphones, but many trucks had a shotgun or rifle for hunting after school. It appears that those times are long gone. We also didn't have many, if any distractions while in class. Some of your points could be counted as a "what if". I would bet that the majority of cellphone use during school probably has very little to do with school work. I am pretty confident that if there was an emergency, that the teacher or other faculty member would contact the appropriate authorities. As for abuse teachers, well maybe it's time to have cameras in the classroom. Either way, have a great weekend! 👍

They're going to have a rude awakening when they get out into the real world. Your employer can enforce such a policy and if that's a problem for you, they can welcome you to unemployment.
Take a look at the protests of Walmart and Starbucks for closing down "unprofitable locations". I never thought the future viewed in Atlas Shrugged was possible, but now it seems inevitable.
The world we live in. The whole student how am I gonna call my parents to tell them I'm okay is just a crybaby excuse. People figured out things/situations before students were addicted to their phones in schools.
Parents, it's past time for you to step up. Discipline starts at home. I'm sure this started with a 'no cell phone in the classroom ban', but wasn't being adhered to, so now it has come to being totally banned at school. You guys made your bed, now lie in it. Yes, sometimes the good have to suffer WITH the bad. You'll survive without it during school hours.
Should really have some kind of leverage if you're gonna protest. They're just ruining their own attendance record by not showing up. Hopefully they still have the capability to complete all the class work they didn't do while holding signs.
Booo hoooo there was a time long ago that cell phones didn’t exist and everyone survived. Tell them kids stop blubbering and learn something besides how to make TikTok videos
These are definitely different times, but I am a former MHS alumni of '76 and we managed without cell phones. They aren't a deterrent to any type of violence, so certainly, that's no excuse for having them. Consider how many school shootings there have been that weren't deterred by a student with a cell phone. Some of the excuses I heard here for having them are ridiculous. This era of the worldwide web, social media, cell phones can be considered a blessing and a curse at the same time if that's possible to be such a thing. Some people have no filter and everyone can get 15 minutes of what they consider fame in their shallow minds. Let's see it for what it is. That's my 2 cents, and I'm entitled to it. 😊
Remember Uvalde!! The parents who saved their own children were able to because their kids called them and told them where they were. Meanwhile the police just sat in fear. No one from the school did anything. It was kids, parents, and cell phones that saved them. People don’t have respect or value for kids/adolescents and think they can handle them however they feel. That is what is happening at Madison. Kids are being blamed for the failures of the ADULTS in that building and THAT is what the protest is truly about. Those kids know they’re getting the short end of the stick and then being gaslit about it. I support Madison students!!
They not concerned about safety. The teacher has a phone; if something serious happens. These kids are just entitled, and want to skip school! They just want to tic TOC, and play on there phone.
Ordinarily, I would agree with the school...however, I am concurring with the students on this. If an emergency happens at school (i.e., shooter, lockdown, fire, etc.), the kids need a way to contact their parents. Even if there's a problem with kids using their phones when/where they shouldn't (which I agree is a problem), I'd rather trust my future child to have a phone and still make the right choices than to give the school any leverage of power to take my child's phone away.
The instructors and all adults would have their phones. Trust me, nothing bad is going to happen if these children don't have a phone with them. No one is saying take away phones as you enter the campus for the staff. That's a bunch of game.
Come on! In case of an emergency what good can come out of your child telling you about that emergency. There is nothing you can do about it, other than knowing your child is safe but that's it. On the other hand, these phones cause a lot of problems for kids, they are like addicts.
shooter, emergency etc then they should be focusing on protocol. Even if a shooter incident happens and they call us, a parent what we gone do? We can't go on campus. The child is now distracted, on the phone bringing danger to them selves cause now the parent histerical kid crying scared shooter can hear all this and that's how that ends. FOLLOW THE RULES in every situation and we would not be here PERIOD
@@DiegoSalazar-uf1jssome of the Uvalde parents would beg to differ with you as it was their kids who called them and the parents were able to get in and save them. No one, meaning the adults, did not follow protocol. That is why parents don’t want to leave their children’s safety to schools alone.
@@tanceyhouston5839as another reply stated- in Uvalde, which happened in TX (shocker), the parents had to save their own kids because the cops waited over an hour due to their own fear. Why? The kids called their parents/911. I beg to differ

Why not follow the rules and keep your phones away. Seems like its these same kids who caused a new policy to be created. Bet the school backs down and nobody is suspended.
@captainblacktooth371Thank you for your life story about how much of a rebel you are but I don't think your story helps either side of the issue.
@captainblacktooth371 i agree the kids are correct
I agree with the school nobody wants to see these fights on social media.
@@sweetsendaedreamrNo, they don't.
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
With that same logic, protesting discrimination (which was normal 50 years ago) is considered privilege. Grow up. It's 2024. Times have changed and you can either get with it or get lost.
Telling students to put their phones away is the new way of saying good morning.
These children and young adults are horrible. The entitlement and phone addiction is extreme. Keep their phones away from them.
They aren’t prisoners and their phones are their property.
@@CroakedNdied Getting students to follow simple rules is not “treating them as prisoners”.
Kids don't need cellphones.
Says the one who probably relies on a cellphone as well.
@@SomebodyThatYaUsedToKnow Well, while training for my current career, personal cellphones were not allowed at work. At this point in my life, I pay for myself and rely on no one, so comparing me to a high school student doesn't make any sense. 🤷
@RyanCunningham-tw4wd Most of those things were around during my school days, I guess due to my upbringing I only focused on my school work. My parents are from Germany, so they were VERY strict, which has allowed me to have a nice and relaxing life, because of my hard work while in my 20's & 30's.
@@lpg12338 when was I comparing you? Also, if you’re in an emergency situation, how else are you gonna contact 911? Since phones are such a terrible thing? You’re literally on social media right now, so I’m sure you use it often. Pretending like you don’t use phones for daily use and may even be attached to it is ironic, considering we’re in a RUclips comment section.
"They're not saying good morning or nothing." 😂
Future employers, if you see Madison HS on these kids resume, make sure to hard pass.
You're in school to learn reading, writing, arithmetic..period! Leave the phone or leave the school and get your GED.
10 years later the gonna protest in front their workplace.
School to prison pipeline
They fail to realize million of people went to school before cellphones. We all survived
And some still do
It was about two things in order of importance - One, not wanting to be in class. Two, phones. That's it.
This was all about entitlement and not getting their way.
Exactly!
this is about kids rights
We didn't have phones in school when I was a student! Did fine get over it!
I feel for the teacher's
I remember when it started, parents wanted then in case of an emergency
i just saw this on tiktok
As many school shootings this country has…let them have their phones!
Leave them babies alone.....❤
Then have them put the phones out of sight 🤷🏾♂️
Phones aren't the issue the students just don't care enough about school and taking their phones away won't help that issue
Literally exactly!! & the policy they have is crazy you can’t have your phone at lunch nothing like that’s just doing to much
They don't know prison yet. Take them to jail Now!!
Im quite certain the walk out was against school policy so lets see some suspensions.
I'm sure over 100 phones in that school. No need for cell

No....TYC is prison for youth. School is to try to give them an education, wich alot of them dont want (clearly)

protesters should stay strong that is true
Exactly 👏🏾👏🏾

Kids aren’t prisoners bro.
kids arent prisoners buddy
Taking the phone the WHOLE day is crazy😂, like just make things simpler & have them turn it in beofre every class if anything
Yeah think about that chaos for a moment .
You have anywhere from 20 to even 40 kids in a class , 5 minutes between classes , and now you gotta put your phone in a basket, cubby along a wall or whatever before and after class ....and then what walk thru the Hall like some of you walk thru parking lots with your heads in your dopey screen and not watching where you're walking ??? And for what??. The cancer cure you're not making ? The answer to peace you haven't a clue ? The problem to the economy you dont know about ? The next toilet bowl brush ???
Are you insane , there isn't one reason for a phone in school.
They’ll be okay
The kids NEED their phones on them at school, at the same time they need to be distraction free at school too! Don’t take them kids phones because in case of an emergency they need to have access to a phone and let parents know what’s going on.
Typical blk behavior. You wonder why 70% of black adults can’t read past a 3rd grade level
front office will call you.
Give them old keypad phones which can be used for calls

That man needs to go. I had issues at my son's school. They lock the bathroom doors. During the day kids have to find someone to open the doors. You have teachers telling the kids to go back to class.teacher, I had to really act a fool. My son is in middle school, and he ended up peeing on himself because they wouldn't open the door. When I called hisd, who's full of 💩 I was told locking the doors was part of the New NES rule . Long story short, I don't have that issue anymore. The kids at his school get to keep their cell phones.
@@andrewzayn544so locking bathrooms and forcing kids to soil themselves is the answer???? Repeat what you posted out loud to yourself. It’s INHUMANE to treat people this way. Get in touch with your humanity.
@@andrewzayn544 and you want to know who’s to blame for that??? The adults running that school. Which is who the students are addressing. I used to wish there. I know what I’m talking about. Teachers weren’t teaching, admin was doing nothing. Now that state took over, everyone is blaming the kids for the failure and now treating them like criminals and prisoners. The phones were the last straw for the students, not the core issue. What they put on paper is a long list of real problems they are facing in that building. Media and HISD are making it about phones so that people like you will roll your eyes and not pay attention to the kids. Y’all are the sheep. Not the students.
Oh yes bathroom monitors. You had to sign in and go. Either the upstairs or downstairs one. I would use the nurses office to avert this.
