TW200 and XT225 ride Idaho trails - Part 3

  • We continue with a creek crossing, then more singletrack along the creek until it opens up into a beautiful meadow with surrounding green mountains. It looks like a place where a bear might eat us. Following tracks we made from the Idaho map, we simply cannot find the trail we had planned to take to get up to the ridgeline. Apparently, it is abandoned, but we find an alternate and go up, up, up. It was over a half-hour of 1st gear climbing over 1600 feet to get to the top. Both of us have much torque-ier gearing than stock for our bikes. Hopefully, you can see how steep it is by Chad's clutch work and just how easily his front tire is coming off of the ground. Enjoy Part 3.

    Reminder to self: when riding single track in Idaho, bring a chain saw … or at least a foldable Silky saw.

    At 4:23 when they crossed what looked like a muddy creek. I thought uh o... the guy on the XT is gunna get muddy. I learned a long time ago not to be that close behind another rider... seen too many rooster tails in the mud. This looks like so much fun. Thanks for the videos. I want a T Dub!!!

    Dang, nice job. Those trails are nuts. You can only tell how steep they (due to the camera) by the amount of sky that is showing above you. Like riding up a staircase.

    Hi WaLarry, I'm glad you are showing this ride in a series. It would be a shame not to show all of the trails you've shown so far. When we edit & cut our Moab video's it doesn't do those trails justice. I've done trails like you and Sidekick Chad are doing and they are more difficult than non-trail riding people think. I don't know if you guys were having fun but I'm having fun watching. Trail-on! (Admiral)

      We were having a blast! Of course, there were a few times getting uphill on that singletrack where I was really hot and pissed off that we were trying to take these little trail bikes where they probably shouldn't go. Oh, and there were some questionable times like when we couldn't find the trail we had planned to take to get to the top of the ridge, and when we were plowing through brush, and when we were in the meadow section refilling our camelback reservoirs with our water filter out of the creek, that was really when we had a conversation about what supplies we had because we were seriously considering that we might not make it out and that we would have to spend the night out there. But, we were really mostly having a lot of fun!

      Those Yamaha's get great gas mileage. I have a XT 200 I ride all day up in the mountains here and never run out of gas. Great bikes. Gas station was probably hundreds of miles away! 😄

    What other users frequent that trail? It looked quite overgrown in areas and not much fun.

    • @LeisureTimeLarry
      @LeisureTimeLarry  2 года назад

      The overgrown sections don't get much use, I'm guessing. One of the trails we were trying to complete the loop on is simply GONE. Couldn't find it. It is on the states map as still being a trail, but I guess nobody used it. Thanks for watching!

      @@LeisureTimeLarry I’m bummed, I’m wanting to buy a new TW 200 and my dealer can’t get one from Yamaha. Production has apparently been delayed. Hopefully they don’t discontinue them.

    • @LeisureTimeLarry
      @LeisureTimeLarry  2 года назад +1

      @@thatalaskaguy I don't know why they would discontinue them. They sell okay, the R&D were paid off decades ago, and they are still listed as Yammy's highest rated bike for fuel mileage. Hopefully, it's just pandemic supply line issues that get sorted out soon. Best of luck!

      @@LeisureTimeLarry I agree with you about that. I spoke to two dealers here in AK about TW’s in January and neither could order any new ones. Both mentioned they didn’t know if Yamaha was discontinuing the model. I said they show the 22’s on their website. Hopefully I can order one this summer.
