In my late 60's, i remember all these cars. Nothing today compares to the simplicity, reliability, durability al the while being highly modifiable. Great overview!!!
My 75 year old friend and engine builder had one of these exact cars. He street raced a lot of BBC vettes and hemi cars in the 60's and beat them all.....these cars were the real deal back then.
As to the “smell”, I had a 66 Sport Coupe, bench seat factory 4 speed car in the late 70’s, and like so many of us, let it go. Took the engine and trans out to put in a 68 El Camino ( that I also don’t have anymore!) The Nova would re-appear from time to time over the years in various stages of restoration. I think it was about 15 years ago we saw one for sale out in front of a guys house, so we stopped to look at it. And by golly, it was my old car, that I sold for $400 without the power train years before. He was asking 20k. Nicely restored, but an automatic trans. I waved my wife over to have a look, she stuck her head in the door, took a peak. When we drove away she said “ I could tell it was your old car. It still smells like gas inside”!
Love that smell!! Even after a new interior my 67 El still has a similar smell Aunts 70s LTD station wagon early 70s smelled even better. Only a car guy can agree on this lol.
In my part of the USA the smell was often moldy as those old windows were all leaky by the early 70's. Rusted out rear trunk pan and quarters were common. The memories are fond non the less though.
Surprised it still has a factory shifter. Every one in the day said they were bad. You would expect people to cave at some point to new part-itis. Well I guess the whole car fits the mode of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” Very cool!
In 66' I was in elementary school and was more into the Fast back Mustang, SS Impalas and the new styled Chevelle. A friend on mines father bought a brand new 66' Pontiac Bonneville. That car was bad ass. My current car right now is a Super Sport Camaro ,6 spd manual trans, 2017' vintage.

I own an original 1966 L79 Nova. They were an option from the factory. Over 5000 were ordered and installed that way from the factory. Not the dealer. The 327 emblem is missing on the fender. The wheel covers in the trunk are 1965 Chevelle. Nova SS are black and not red on the spinners.

Pretty cool survivor only thing wrong I saw it has the wrong heads it has 283 power pack heads instead of the 461 castings its supposed to have
Gotta rewind back to the 18 second mark when I ask if it still has the original engine.
Not an L-79. It is a 283/220 horse someone added L-79 valve covers and air cleaner. It could be a 327/250 horse someone added L-79 air cleaner and stickers. These are small valve 283 heads; see markings at 1:48.
See marking :13 where I ask if it’s the original engine still. Then look at the L79 thermostat housing and winters intake. Then notice the 1:22 mark where you can see the 327 holes in the fender. Would you like me to crawl under the car and show you the 12 bolt and 3/8” fuel line as well?
