With my Sigma 60mm I've done many very clean pictures at 1/25sec, as long I don't drink more the 12 coffee before the shooting! 😂
Yes, I feel a bit of a struggle when shooting in low light, a bit of movement from the kit lens. Even for photos, it is good to have stabilization.@@L3nny666
Have been using this lens for a few months now. I still can't believe how sharp it is for a zoom. It really is as pin sharp as a prime in many of my photos. Friends who have seen the photos just did not believe me when I informed them they were taken on a zoom. It really is that good.
I own it since release in autumn ‘21, use it almost every day, and still can‘t believe how good it is. Not just for the price, but in general, independent of the price. Highly, highly recommended!
I had tried the Sigma, and it is compact and light, but ended up settling on the Tamron 17-70mm. For the bit extra size and weight, the tick more on wide and good amount more on zoom makes it the most versatile lens in it’s class. I personally prefer faster primes, but if I could have just one lens to shoot almost everything with, the Tamron takes it. Like the Sigmas though, wish it had OS.

@@CurtisPadley can you have low light decent shots with max ISO set to 6400? I recently took some portraits on the street in low light with my Sigma 30 f/1.4, I used the following settings: f/2.0 - ISO 6400 - 1/80, and since I wanted to buy the 18-50 instead of this one, this concern popped into mind while I was shooting. maybe the shots would have not looked as sharp at f/2.8 aperture. I really like this lens. I have primes for portraits but instead I'm using this 18-50. It always surprises me how sharp the images are using this lens. It's on my camera 90% of the time.
The sigma 18-50 is a sick lens for the apsc cameras! Very sharp. Really the only benefit to the tamron 17-70 is that lens is stabilized. Nice vid curtis

The size of this lens is awesome over the Tamron! That being said, each MM on the wide end is a bigger change than it would be on the tele, so the 17 vs 18 is actually helpful sometimes. Also, with an APSc sensor any extra background separation is helpful, so the extra 20mm on the tele end are super useful for more striking portraiture. Just food for thought as someone who has tried both and for the life of me can't pick which is overall better. I think though their focal lengths/apertures are similar, they really fill different niches!
I use it on my A7C, and its my favourite walk around lens. Good fast focus, amazing photos and videos. Lack of OSS is not a problem if you have any of the newer Sonys that has gyro data. Catalyst browser does wonder with stabilizing, its almost gimbal-like. The only thing i dont like about this lens is that the zoom ring sits on the outside, i would prefer it to be on the closer side to the camera body. F2.8 is more than enough for any general kind of use.
great review man! stabilization is a little drawback, since im looking to capture video, but there are many different free softwares that allow you to steady the shot for you liking so I think this is the next purchase for me for sure!
It just the better version of the 16-50 kit lens and the Sigma primes have always been a favorite because Sony for years ignored the APC line up for years while they focused on full frame lenses. None of the original Sigma primes had stabilization and this lens is cheaper than buying 16, 30, 60 Art lens all in one package with the same f/2.8. The only reason to opt for the primes is that there are used options to get the Art primes used at closer to $100 per lens. So you could get 3 primes or this one for within $100 or so depending on what you find in the used marketplace.
I had a 18-50 f2.8 Sigma way back for my old D7000 and loved it, but at times wished it had a bit more reach. So I wonder how good it is against the Sony 18-135?
