Congrats on a fantastic purchase. This is one of my favorite GS's. You can't beat the dial color, blue'd GMT hand, and incredible hour markers and hands. Stunning combo.
Bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I constantly look at the dial, and never even notice the time. Just an amazing timepiece! Went right to the top of my rotation!
The watch, the music, your narration of why you love it, sold me, purchased! Everyone told me get a Rolex, but I'm in love with the passion the Japanese put into these watches. I'm not buying a badge I'm buying what I love and this watch is one of them.
I have owned this watch for just over a year and found myself not to wear it as often over the past few months. Seeing the strap you have chosen on yours has made me love it so much more. Great video, thank you.
I can’t stop watching this video. The lighting is just perfect for this creme brûlée dial. That lacquer is just….fine, it’s buttery. Happy?! This is just a must have.
This is my one and only GS. I agree with you... this is just breathtaking! Also, like you, I immediately changed straps and kept the croc stap with deployant buckle in the box. I'm a Rolex guy and I also own an Omega that is very dear to me. But this SBGM221 is becoming my favorite piece. Great work btw. Keep it coming!
@@camelia411... You are absolutely correct. The croc strap with the deployant is more appropriate for dressing up. I rarely wear a suit though so a tan (or any shade of brown) and sometimes a grey calf skin strap work better for me. Cheers!
@@romanrudenko8760... Hello! I was actually pleasantly surprised. I was expecting "just" GS advertised accuracy of -3/+5 sec/day. I've owned by SBGM221 for just about 3 months now so the sample size is quite small but it's going less than +2sec a day. Cheers!
SBGM021 was my first GS, it’s one of the only watches I always keep running, because I know I’ll be wearing it at least once a week (others are Speedy and PADI Turtle). It really suits just about any occasion, and I will never get tired of it.
Wow... such a fantastic video. You sir, have done this beautiful timepiece proud. This video is by far, the best out there. After watching this, it is now at the top of my list! Thank you!
There're some underrated models in the GS lineup before they go upmarket and this is one of them. Congrats on your great choice and wear it in good health!
First video of yours I've seen, very good work, love it when the videos hit on all the points us enthusiasts want to know, and just present the watch in all its beautiful angles 👍👍
Excellent choice, congrats. Wear in good health for many years. I looked at this one as well before deciding on the SBGN 005. There was quite a bit of back-and forth on both, contented in the end. 👍⌚🇯🇵
They have been on that ladder for a long time now. They’re older than Rolex, use 100% in house movements, have been the entire time, they are better finished and, I think, better quality than Rolex. They were the reason for the Quartz crisis. They dominated the watch world for a long time. I think they’re securely on that ladder. They just need to market better. That’s the only reason 99% of people have heard of Rolex and most people wouldn’t know Grand Seiko from any other brand.
I was planning on an Omega Globemaster blue or Glashütte SeaQ blue. Suddenly, after watching this outstanding review with some really striking footage, I bought a Grand Seiko sbgm221… It really is a beauty, thanks!
Brilliant review. I have seen it so many times. The perspective , the visuals etc are all quite wonderful. I have ordered this piece for viewing and possible purchase . Quite excited . As you have mentioned in the review a bit philosophically that watch collecting is as much a journey inward as anything else . Feels so true for me , never thought I would go beyond the usual or the sports models that called me to watches at first place . Perhaps it also a bit of maturing with age - don’t know , dress watches is my new fascination . Thank you for this brilliant review and associated presentation
This is a watch I've handled a few times. As far as I'm concerned it is the most appealing watch GS make irrespective of price. Must be seen and held to be fully appreciated.
I enjoyed the perspectives you shared here. Very interesting. I'd like to own this one as a weekend casual recreation wear. Blue jeans, Italian Wholecut shoes and a nicer button down shirt would go well with it IMHO.
Did I see a HMT at the beginning? When I was a kid, I tore down my father's HMT automatic and didn't know how to put it back. He loved it but didn't say anything and encouraged my curiosity. I miss him and the watch.
Yeah it looked like Janta. My father had one of the earlier ones. He had to pay and wait for it before he got it. There used to be waiting lists!😏 I have a Pilot.
Really nice looking watch. One thing I like about Seiko is they put a bit of GS styling in many of their lower costing models. As I watch this video, I pull out my Sarb035 and just admire how nice it looks. The closest watch I have to a GS.
This is my favorite GS ever. I wanted to buy one when I got home from my deployment, I even tried one in their Manhattan boutique. I couldn’t justify spending the money at the time because I had to pay off some debts and I might need to start saving for one of these now.
lovely review and quality of production is just amazing. if you cold be kind to tell what was the watch that was displayed at 0:41 that would be great.
@@daddykool9507 i have very nice vintage seiko5, some very high end, with Zaratsu polished hands and indices, highly collectable. Getting hard to find. There are many seiko fans all over the world. 😅
I keep coming back to this video. My favorite of your work. Question(s): do you still own it? If so, after some time, has your opinion changed for better/worse?
Just got mine last week from Chrono24. Beautiful watch and the strap is the softest I have ever touched in my life. My first GS is Skyflake and I thought they could not make a better looking watch. I was wrong.
Just for anyone who may be interested. I am a woman with a 6in wrist and have been hoping to find a GMT that fits me. This watch wears much smaller than it is. It's 39.5mm and wears like a 36mm in my opinion. Again, just wanted to put this out there for people in similar situations like me: small wrist, really looking for a GMT.
This is such a beautiful watch. It's just such a shame they couldn't give it a decent water resistance. And why Grand Seiko does 19mm/21mm lugs is beyond me.
Considering the context you set forward in the beginning of this video and also that it’s been 2 years since this review, it might be interesting to create video revisiting past reviews & opinions to see how they may have changed and developed over time. Just a thought.
Wonderful watch... and perfect video, thank you very much indeed. I believe that this watch deserves to be made also with the SPRINGDRIVE movement...!!! It has one of the CALMEST dials, so it deserves the CALMEST movement of the world, the SPRINGDRIVE.
Beautiful watch . Good video . I love Seiko watches. I have a few and a few swiss watches . All were around $500 + . Maybe one day I will save for this one . Lol

50 years from now will still look GOOD and classic

I heard someone say its finish quality is on par with Patek.

This is one of those rare watches that would be worth just beholding in the flesh, even if you could never actually own it.
Every time I see this watch I marvel at its beauty , refinement, and simplicity. This watch is already a classic.

I use it for fine dressing with the croc strap
