I think this happened to me during a B-side level. I can't remember which one. I guess I should be glad it didn't happen after a brutally difficult screen such as this one or 7c. That would've been even worse.
Wave dash mechanics is very consistent, if you're not making it try to ajust details in the timing of buttons, it's the kind of thing that once you know it you know it and it becomes easy and consistent. The time you hold the jump button after the wave dash affects a lot it's distance for example, try holding the jump button for as long as you can after wave dashing and you will see the difference. Good luck on your journey.

It actually happened to me 3 times I thought it was a bug the first time, the second time I saw what happened, and the third I tried not to die by dashing up just after collecting but I crashed on the ceiling. 4th time, I dashed right after collecting and this saved me.

This happened to me lmao. in fact, the first time I reached the heart, I forgot that bouncing of the heart refreshed dashes so I died after touching it, the second time I reached the heart I panicked and did a diagonal dash, then to restore it dashed downwards and died. On the third time of getting there I made it...
I get that that's frustrating, but it's not as bad as people think it is. Beating a room like that involves a pretty good amount of time and practice anyway, none of which disappears because of a stupid death like this. When similar things happened to me, I almost always beat the room within the next few tries anyway.

Shamelessly used assist mode to get this heart, since it was the only thing left standing between me and the platinum. I have been feeling a little bitter about it. Didnt get the same satisfaction from the platinum or heart as usual. Might replay the level or something
i have (thankfully) never died on any heart room (a/b sides) or heart (c sides)during a deathless run, but i have come very very close, and died after grabbing the 6b heart many times in practice.
man I love this game to death. I've fully played through the whole thing (except for goldens strawberries) twice, save for the final screen of Farewell cuz I got distracted with other games and haven't revisited it since. Easily one of if not my all-time favourite game

Im relatively new to the game as I am still working on completing the b sides. How do I get good enough to beat that stuff. I’m only working on 3 b side. I think I’ve died like 1000 times already. But I’m near the end.
Initially i had some trouble playing with the keyboard, then I tried the stock ds4 controller, then I modified the stock ds4 dpads, because the stock ones gives a lot of false diagonals (you can find some kits online). Maybe some of these experiments you help you.
This is pretty sad lol But in 7D, (a mod!!) heart room is like 10x harder and when you get to the top you have to do a heart buffer timing thing and if you mess it up you restart so it’s super scary

when playing celeste at 160%, such a death happens everytime if you don't dash up after collecting the heart... I feel this absolute pain.

iirc you used to be invincible when collecting them but the devs made it so that you could still die when collecting hearts.

It's possible to get the heart in a way that it counts before reaching the botton. For me last dash diagonal up did it.
