I think it would not be superfluous for everyone to walk through history from the very beginning to the present day, I am sure if you do this, many will be grateful to you
The fact that this guy used three different DAWS to prove that the software you use doesn't matter but your creative vision does. Also the fact that splice samples always sound faya no matter the DAW.
Most DAWs now can just about do anything. Preferences should be more about what you're used to, certain features, or whatever suits your workflow better. Like I just laugh whenever people throw shade on FL. It's a DAW like any other and most people use third party plugins anyway???
Videos like this make me realize that even after all the time i’ve spent making beats and producing that i’m barely even scratching the surface of whats possible. And thats so fuckin *exciting* to be honest
I feel like it's the Dunning Kruger effect in full swing for me. I'm just now starting to truly realise how much I don't know and if I can just power through this, I'll hopefully come out actually knowing shit.
YAS!! Us creative people know how limitless possibilities can feel overwhelming. But these also can ground you in the freedom that comes with that exciting, joy and fun of the processing.
This is probably one of the hardest videos ever on RUclips simply because of the build up to the end. That flip from that sample was incredible! Absolutely amazing work. Thank you.
@@vinny-is-here She is a relatively underground hyperpop artist that has had a massive influence and is well regarded within most music circles. And I do agree that it is something that Daft punk would do as well. However, the type of pitch and just overall effect is more reminiscent to something that Sophie would've done as compared to something off of Discovery or Homework
Loving the flume type beat at the end Nick. Great job sampling, would’ve definitely loved to hear you talk more about the origins of sampling in each decade/era. Really cool and inspiring to learn about.
Really talented sampler this guy. But I think that second horn sample was dope on its own. Sampling isn’t just the technical skill of mixing, chopping, etc but finding the best sound and building a beat around it
I am speechless. After 6 years of producing I realized that I lost myself into the commerce while I could be creating my own Universe... Thank you for the revelation!👋👋
Sometimes people need to get humbled a lil bit to fuel the urge to keep learning and getting better and not get big headed so fast… I was definitely one of those just now lol. flexitone🔥
I don’t understand absolutely nothing about music production and sampling but still, this was a great video!! I really like rap/hip-hop and I plan to learn more about this as hobby (or maybe career, who knows).
You just blew my mind with how you just made a whole beat of out one sound.. reminds me of a guy who fed a whole village with one loaf of bread or some shit like thay
Great video, great beats ! That said I personally don't consider the 3 levels as well... "Levels" of proficiency. To me they feel more like different but concurring aspects of sample flipping toolbox. Anyway, kudos !
Next level!! This is inspirational af!! Literally any creative block I have I can pick a random sound and manipulate it so much and make an entire beat from it?! what a time to be alive!
the third technique is so fun to do tbh. the first time i saw someone do it was to turn a fart into a dubstep type laser sound, which later inspired me to take the noise of an AC unit and make it into a bassline
What parts of sampling history would you like to see explored?
@Nope good one
The use of south or central American records in sampling would be cool. Mi Gente need some inspo
2000 pop music

TRUE!
and he's also super efficinet in blender as well, he's really talented.
he used FL for begginner level, Ableton for advanced, Bitwig for pro

Same with art programs. I always tell people that its the artist that matters, not the brush.

SAME.
I like how you are not discouraged by that realization, but excited 👍

you don't know what you don't know, and the more you know, the more you realize you know nothing XD
You creating that entire beat from the flexatone was fire 🔥🔥
Much respect 👊
@@nickthechen totally agree ! Dope beat
Flume ass boiiii love it
Yo I wanted to jump out my seat when it was completed but I was already on my feet! Lol
This is probably one of the hardest videos ever on RUclips simply because of the build up to the end. That flip from that sample was incredible! Absolutely amazing work. Thank you.
The third sampling technique is just insanely good. Sophie’s music was made like that I guess… her influences changed future pop music forever.
SOPHIE made all her signature sounds using pure FM synthesis, and she made all of them on an Elektron Monomachine. She Swore by that machine!
SOPHIE was all about fm synths. Granular synthesis is more Flume's territory
you cant be more wrong about SOPHIE and sampling :)))
>her

The sound design on level 3 was quite impressive!

This tier by tier expose on modern sampling is SORELY needed on RUclips. Thank you!

agree
yes beginners would think its pure luck or random but there's way more experience and feel to it than luck. and luck is involved in anything anyway
loved the history portion, and that last beat was 🤯
The 2nd beat was crazy !!!!!!!!
I am speechless. After 6 years of producing I realized that I lost myself into the commerce while I could be creating my own Universe... Thank you for the revelation!👋👋
I'm so glad people like DJ Kool Herc or DJ shadow got their credit , because a lot of people should know them , especially if we talking about hip hop
Wow! As someone just getting into music production this was a really helpful video. Im gonna be researching most of these techniques. Thank you
“I can take a baby’s sneeze and turn it into a kick drum. Or I could just use a kick drum sample.” 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻
Oww damn that level 3 is beyond my expectation 🤯 much love for u man
Thanks for making this! Strikes the perfect balance between actively learning something while still watching something entertaining
This video is amazing. I feel like I can now go crazy with my sampling and sound design! Thank you Bro!
Sometimes people need to get humbled a lil bit to fuel the urge to keep learning and getting better and not get big headed so fast… I was definitely one of those just now lol. flexitone🔥
You made the third beat with just one sound?!🤯🤯 Forever amazing man!
Basically this video describes the evolution of Dj Shadow as a Dj and producer. So nice!
After all these years, I always made my beats from the vsts.... That 3rd style was on a divine level
Final beat was insane!🔥🔥🔥
WHOA ! SUPER AWESOME. That makes me think about sampling in a whole new way. I was just stuck at "level 1" .Thanks for all that valuable info
your level 2 beat actually slapped so hard!!!
id love to hear a uk rapper on that
love seeing newfangled audio and bitwig in this video, two of my favorites.
Bitwig Studio is now on Splice Rent to Own.
@@splice anything that gets bitwig more users is good!
This is art! Beautiful
Most definitely make more videos on the subject and other in depth things for us who have no teacher and need these videos
I've always wanted to do that! Your track at the end is gold!
That 3rd beat was impressive, all from that little sample, that's nuts.
I don’t understand absolutely nothing about music production and sampling but still, this was a great video!! I really like rap/hip-hop and I plan to learn more about this as hobby (or maybe career, who knows).
One of the best things I've ever seen
Level 2 beat has really crazy trumpet lead and I love it
Killed it my man! Awesome slices........ with 3 different DAWS. Ooooh YAWWWWsss YES! :D
THIRD ONE WAS INCREDIBLE
Excellent video. Great overview of sampling history(please go more in depth) and the sampling techniques. Making a beat out of one sound 🔥🔥🔥🔥
That last joint was crazy! I’ve been experimenting with granular synthesis
That last one was insane, definitely got a new subscriber
Jeez, that level 3 was nuts Nick!
Wasn’t crazy about the first couple of flips but the final one was legendary. Never have I been happier that I stayed till the end of a video.
I am really impressed with this video, this is Del the Funkyhomosapien and I Highly Approve this! Keep it up!
I would KILL for a full-length version of the Level 3 Beat
You can create any sounds you want with anything !
Love the feel of the second beat the most
Thanks really helped out, being someone between level 1 - 2 I learned a lot.
Prince Paul is a legendary sampler, producer and king of the skit. He’s worth diving into
This channel is so underrated
Super informative that last beat was sounding like something original af
Thank you so much for this tutorial, and solidifying my disdain for the 808 (and Trap beats in general)
Litterally insane how he made a whole track using a single sample
outro ... song was litt🔥🔥
This was so sick. Beat 2 is a hittttttt boii
super clean brand and super clean vid. had to sub
It turned out very cool! 🔥🔥🔥
I would like a more in-depth continuation of the video 🙏🏼
Nick Chen, You are always the best ! All your tips are amazing, Always !
These beats are sick man! The 3 dif daws was a nice touch
Man that last technique is dope.
This is FIRE, Nick! Great to hear and see you doing well man - shoutout AQ ❤️🖤
Shoutout AQ and you as well Tim!! Hope you’ve been well!!
Exactly the video I needed!!
10:11 props for shouting out my boys Doom and Daft Punk
That last beat should be on Spotify
This was a fascinating and inspiring video. Thank you!
Sound design is the truth 💯
I need the 3rd complete song! I need to listen to it
You just blew my mind with how you just made a whole beat of out one sound.. reminds me of a guy who fed a whole village with one loaf of bread or some shit like thay

Simplicity and complexity aren’t what make music great to the average listener
I had to go back to listen to that flextone beat again. Bruh🔥 hard as hell.
This was an incredibly useful guide thank you!
Learned a lot from this and will definitely be coming back for more!
Level 3 blew my mind 🤯
You should go into the origins of hardcore, gabber, dnb and breakcore from a sampling perspective
Breakcore👌❤
man u are insane!!! my mind was blown
yo your studio is lit
that second beat was beyond heat
Next level!! This is inspirational af!! Literally any creative block I have I can pick a random sound and manipulate it so much and make an entire beat from it?! what a time to be alive!
This is what I need
amazing vid. more history plz
bro is a god level producer
Nice....I'm currently using level 2 sampling. Haven't gotten around to level 3 techniques yet.
You’re personally a legend
That second beat was FIREEEE!!!
Second beat is amazing bro
That flexatone edm beat was godly
Damn that last one was practically a Flume track. Wicked skilled
This dude is a sample god tf!
Nick Chen the monster
the last beat is ridiculous dope
Thanks Nick. That was super helpful.
Any guides to loading samples onto devices such as kp3+ or tr-8s or maybe how to find the chops to play?
This was a dope watch. I don’t produce but this surely sparks interest. Great vid!
So much love for this video.
the third technique is so fun to do tbh. the first time i saw someone do it was to turn a fart into a dubstep type laser sound, which later inspired me to take the noise of an AC unit and make it into a bassline
Bro mastered every daw
Nice quick shot of the MS-1!
No mention of Bobby digital and the ASR-10? That's where the modern sampling style came from IMO, RZA and Havoc changed the game!
Love this! Thanks, Nick!
the song in the end was so goood
Ayyye I've done level 3 before! Years ago, me and a few friends made a bet on who could make the best beat with the fewest sounds/samples in 24 hours.
NAH YOUR FIRST BEAT WAS SAUCY
How he ended up with that final product is insane
