I've had countless therapists, been on every antidepressant you can name, tried to self medicate with all kinds of other illegal substances, I've meditated, gone on therapy retreatsm..you name it, I did it...decades...suicide attempts...hospital stays...pure hell..
4 months of ketamine therapy...I now have a full time job again, I moved back in with my wife, reconnected with my kids, have lost 30 pounds, and feel incredible....it WAS a miracle for me....I get a booster every few months. That's it...no other meds...the promise of this drug is undeniable at this point

I'm extremely depressed and anxious with PTSD and am heavily considering using ketamine but want to talk to someone who has done it for at least a year. Would you mind if I could talk to you about it and ask some questions? You're the first person I've found who has used it more than twice.

Give it a try - You have nothing to lose if you are depressed. A single infusion cured me, and that was 5 months ago, and I'm still going strong. Some people only need one two infusions to knock them into a better emotional orbit. That's what happens with me. My outlook has fundamentally changed, and I no longer feel anxious or depressed. I'm working again, and just generally enjoying life. No more morbid or suicidal thinking, best of all.
      Good luck

Had my first home Ketamine treatment last night (thanks to Mindbloom) and this woman explains exactly how I felt when I woke up this morning. I woke up and as I walked into the bathroom, I felt like something was missing, but not in a bad way. I just felt lighter. Then it hit me, I didn’t feel the burden of my never ending “to do list”. I still knew i had a
Too do list, but it didn’t weigh me down anymore.
Here’s the kicker- I wasn’t even aware of the weight until it was gone. I highly recommended this treatment.

I tell people it’s like waking into a coffee table with sharp corners for years and then one day the corners are sanded and rounded. I still have daily issues that pop up but the intensity of the anxiety or fear is not as severe. I do notice some breaking through by day 6 or 7. There are 1 to 2 members of the medical team with you for the whole infusion, about 2 hours total. The place I go uses a Paramedic and an RN. • @wienerwoods

Oral ingestion requires a much higher dose. Sublingual and nasal delivery methods work according to the research, but it takes longer for the anti-depressant effects to kick in.
IV infusion is different than simply slamming 30mg all at once into a vein. The infusion process is slow. It takes 45 minutes to deliver the dose, and as a result, no dreaded / sought after K-hole. Look into the nuerochemistry and you'll learn that there's a Goldilocks sort of zone of effectiveness for theraphy which involves the slow application of low doses of ketamine at sub-anesthetic (K-hole) doses. Too much overloads the synaptic clefts with glutamate, leading to something called excito-toxicity. Too little, and nothing happens, or it it happens slowly over the course of days or weeks.
The brain is extremely complex, and it's biology poorly understood. Same goes for depression. If your back is up against the wall with depression and your choices for ending it are between suicide, a fist-full of oxycontin, an 8-ball of blow, a gallon of Wild Turkey, or 30mg of Special K, I say go with the K.
But if there is ANY way you can scrape together $1500 in credit or whatever and you live in the LA area, give Dr. Mandel or another ketamine provider a shot first. You are much more likely to get a good outcome, and I look at the $1500 I spent as the best investment I've ever made in anything.

It's only one "half" of the set of molecules that make up racemic ketamine. Furthermore it's just a money grab by big pharma - patenting one enantiomer of K because they couldn't patent K itself, and charging insurance $5000 for a chemical that costs pennies to make. Insane. The stupid FDA should just approve the infusions for depression without sponsorship of big pharma - as is slowly happening in the rest of the civilized world.

      @@seantv1510 Hi Sean!
The treatments have been going wonderful for me! I was diagnosed with PTSD when I was 10 and began feeling suicidal around that time. I’ve had a long standing battle with suicidal ideation, OCD like tendencies, eating disorders (binge eating), anxiety, substance abuse and I’m sure I am forgetting something. But the point is- the ketamine has helped me with every single one of these issues I just mentioned.
Every experience has been very different. I have kept a journal to write things down after the ketamine starts to wear off and I have also been seeing a therapist right after the ketamine “trip” is over. It has really helped to talk to this therapist about my experience and we have had some great conversations.
Ketamine is definitely unlike any other psychedelic I have ever tried. The first time it was intense and I was nervous and it was a foreign different kind of feeling. By the 3rd one I felt much more comfortable and relaxed. I have had some epiphanies and have noticed a change in the way I am. I don’t know if it will last but I know that right now I am feeling better than I was before treatment.
I am dancing in the car sober and singing now… not saying this is going to happen for everyone but that fact that I am doing such a thing is wild to me.
I also bring a blanket and a lavender essential oil for every session as a comfort. It has really helped to take deep breaths while the ketamine is being injected and during the initial intensity, even through the entire experience but don’t overthink it ha.
I could go on for days about this and all of the things I experienced during the treatment ha.

Sometimes I feel like my legs are encapsulated in cement and at times when I happen to get a good day, I feel much better and much much lighter.

"an infusion of a very old, generic drug is fucking outrageous. "
What is far, far more fucking outrageous is that J&J was allowed to patent an enantiomer of K, one of the "mirror images" of the molecule and charge $6000 for a bottle of it to shoot up people's noses! That is the real crime! Sure SOME K clinics are making money big time off the infusions, but ANYONE doing ANYTHING medical is making big money! I had a large mole on my face I finally got removed, insurance wouldn't pay, the Baltimore plastic surgeon I used owns his own airplane and brags about it on instagram! (he was who my primary care provider recommended as the best, and said his procedure prices were actually not as bad as some)
At least with the clinics there is a free market...anyone can shop around to some degree. With "Sprovato", your insurance has to pay the $6000 for $10 worth of chemical, buffer and nasal spray bottle. If the FDA were actually a rational, humanitarian organization NOT controlled by those in the revolving door with big pharma, they would just look at the huge body of medical research on racemic K infusion and say, "obviously, it works. We 'approve' its use so insurance should reimburse it". But that isn't the way our thoroughly broken system of crony capitalism works.

  • @Kaagrant
    @Kaagrant 7 лет назад +12

Yes, agreed, that the audience is clapping on demand. It's like an infomercial for anti-wrinkle products that only the very wealthy can afford.
I've also seen ads for investors to partner with physicians, so it's not as this doctor is trying to portray himself--all about compassion and healing. No, first and foremost, it's about making tons of money for investors, and in this case, the doctors are investors first and foremost.
With plastic surgeons, it's a different story. They're not trying to portray themselves as saintly healers. With this, because depression is so deadly, it seems almost unforgivable to exploit things as they are. Can't afford a bigger bust or a slimmer tummy? That's one thing. Can't afford to treat a bona fide illness when there is a cheap, out of patent medication to do so? That's a sad commentary on this doctor and all the rest of them.
Getting it on the street when you don't know the source, type (yes, there are different types of ketamine), or purity is very risky behavior unlikely to work out well.

Swallow a pill && your brain will no longer be broken.. even people that go off of the main stream medications & go for oils, meditation just all around different options than swallowing another pill to be "normal". People don't like change, this challenges everything "mental health professionals are taught & are teaching" .. although Shrooms, DMT & even ibogaine have already shown great success in treating mental health with hallucinations.
Last I knew Special K (ketamine) was an animal tranquilizer or a strong pain reliever. However if it's showing good effects with depression.. why not?
      My only concern is addiction.

It wasn't that much when I consider my safety and comfort. Some good results are lost by trying to get the same result from playing with it like a toy without a medical plan.

Well, I recently had a small dose for a medical procedure, and had a complete nightmare of a hallucinatory bad trip. In seconds I went from completely alert to all the way down the K-hole. It was horrifying and extremely traumatic, especially since I was not expecting that to happen at all. I'm never going to get close to that stuff again. Any drug that has the potential to do that should be approached with extreme caution. Because once that trip starts, there's no counteracting it, and the patient is trapped there until it wears off, or until they are knocked out with something else.

    • @Salmagundiii
      @Salmagundiii 3 года назад

@@DianeGraft FWIW, this is a commonly misunderstood comparison. You got a much larger dose to quickly launch you into the K space - as I prefer to call it. This is because for your surgery you needed to be completely disassociated. For the infusions you are just put into a kind of twilight sedation, you can still open your eyes with effort and I always listen to music and it mostly sounds normal and undistorted.
I am surprised to hear that K is being used at all, alone for many medical procedures. My understanding from reading medical lit. and talking to my provider, who is a CRNA, is that is usually only used _ALONE_ for emergency medicine. It's really odd to me to read accounts like your on this thread. Maybe there are some weird sadistic anesthesiologists out there who take delight in giving people a near death experience??? Did you ask him or her why you couldn't have had propafol, midazolam, dexmedetomidine or any of the various other sedatives that do not cause a bad trip? Do you have some medical indication for needing to use K? It is different than most because it actually supports breathing and raises blood pressure. It's one of the few anesthetics that almost cannot kill you even if something goes "wrong".

I was released from the hospital today. During my surgery I was given Ketamine as a sedation. I didn't know what it was but what the doctor told me is that it will give me amnesia and I wouldn't remember what will happen during the surgery. Now this is what really happened (The effect that it had on me):
I died, lived a whole new life of being without a body and total loss of control, died in that life and came back to the surgery room!!! I came back in a hysteric manner. When I started gaining my consciousness back I saw my mother who was crying from my hysteric behavior. Even when I was like 10% conscious I started trying to document what happened to me before I forget. I kept saying stuff like "I'm not a human anymore" and "I don't have a body".
The experience was the worst I ever had in my entire life. I'm a 32 year old healthy male. If your anesthesiologist offers you Ketamine for your surgery tell him to go try it himself first then see if he'll recommend it again!!!

The woman being treated with the ketamine barely talks, “less heaviness in throat” **audience claps** what does that mean? She had it done only a week ago, that’s not enough time to know its long term effects, short term effects mean nothing... how about have someone on the show who has had ketamine a year ago? She’s also very beautiful, good for television, probably a very wealthy person too.
