Mindy and her family are currently transforming their Mitsubishi bus into a mobile home. After careful consideration when looking for an air conditioner to cool their bus in the warmer months they opted for an underbunk air conditioner instead of a rooftop unit. This decision was based on both aesthetics and the desire to preserve space for a rooftop deck on top of their bus.
They decided on the Cool-J HB9000 PLUS Underbunk Reverse Cycle Air Conditioner. This no-fuss underbunk air conditioner option provides efficient cooling or heating for vehicles up to 6.5m. Given the families larger van size, they strategically placed ducting to ensure optimal airflow where they need it most including their sleeping area.
When connected to mains 240V power, the unit operates seamlessly and when travelling off-grid, they've installed an impressive power system to support all their appliances. The underbunk air conditioner unit draws 40-60 amps, providing sufficient power to run other devices while off-grid.
During the installation process, it's crucial to consider floor ventilation, drainage, and internal airflow for the underbunk air conditioner. This family chose to place it beneath the flooring, directing the ducting up into the sleeping area.
Last but not least, a standout feature Mindy and her family appreciate is the user-friendly control panel, allowing easy adjustment of fan speed and temperature. Additionally the Wi-Fi capability allows you to control the unit completely from your phone.

How is the unit performing for you now? When temperature is satisfied--when cooling--does both the compressor and fan shut off or does the fan continue to run until you turn off the unit with the wired thermostat or remote?

Im considering installing the unit. Very little info and videos on RUclips. Please make a video about the smartphone app (functions, convenience...) as much as possible. Video is very helpful though!!

you're using storage air to supply it.. it would work better if you ducted the air intake to the space.

I've seen this on a few builds now using this type of unit. Not sure what the install instructions say but the return should be ducted to the room for more efficient cooling and power usage.

No they aren’t didn’t you watch the part where he cut holes in the floor? The air intake is under the bus, so taking in fresh air 🙄

Question Why dont anybody do a product installation on a Semi Truck and demonstrate it in a American Semi Truck which would be WAY more important then a RV....... then if it passed the rigorous trials of A American Semi Truck Then Let It trickle down to the rvs. This would make Much More sense.....

I'm doing exactly this. Already got a generator and side box chosen, and I'm getting ready to install this ac unit under my bed in the sleeper. Truck is a 2007 peterbilt 379.
If it's something you'd like to see, I could probably figure out making a short video about the installation, or at the very least, once it's installed, I can show it off.
