Great video man, thank you. I'm not a mechanic by any stretch of the imagination but your video is so straightforward and detailed I was able to swap out my starter and she fired right up when I was done
Glad it all worked out for you!! Thanks for watching!
U a blessing right now thanks ima female el driver I’m learning as I go along
Glad I could help!
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you so much for posting. I had been trying to find a video on replacing a starter on a 305. It should be the same process for my 78 Skylark.
You're welcome! Should be the same.
what most people dont know is that the wiers to the starter will come down far enough so you can disconect the wires after you drop the starter
There was a 1978 El Camino v8 that was converted to run on hydrogen (water through carb) back in 2006. Owner drove around for several thousand miles at low power, before locking in storage garage. Shop in Georgia used obsolete dual 1.5MH coils relay per cylinder, and diodes, and passed 6-7 amps current through spark plugs same time as spark, using Inverter with half wave diode. Champion plugs cross reference with same REACH can be taken apart at top to exchange 6kohm resistor for copper wire substitute- like a racing plug. Timing was retarded to minus 34 degrees. Will start and run Idle speed but for acceleration power, the carb was uncovered to increase size of main jet redrilled about 30% bigger for more water. The EGR assisted the efficiency, but later on they found out that just some of the exhaust water would also smooth out engine running if reused! The exhaust has compressed in Nitrogen from air that boosted efficiency. (Air is 78% Nitrogen) Web site shut down, but couple videos 1+2 are still there on him and son running lawnmower engine on water. S1R9A9M9 -Nathren) I studied the whole thing. He now only runs V8 on engine stand for 24hr hooked to electrical power generator, with water line .
Great video and thanks for posting! Just purchased my starter for my 1979 Monte!
Appreciate it!
I just installed a starter on my 64 Chevy and watched your video. Damn these things are heavy and awkward to install under a car. Thanks
Helps. Same rig; same issue. Thanks.
Gonna have to replace my starter this weekend she barely started this evening when i was trying to come home
Did you end up having to do it?
Thank you for making this my starter on my 69 el Camino just broke just looking to see if it’s hard to replace
pretty simple! 👍🏽
your hooking us up I just bought an 86 with a 6 cylinder and it needs a starter
Thanks for that video bro! Exactly what I needed!
Is there anyway you could help me run down the diagram I have a 77 El Camino every time I plug in the battery I blow the fusible link from my starter to my AC relay Are there any specific or any extra wires that are supposed to be hooked up to any other relays no right?
I'm about to install my new starter today. 74 elco
I hope it went well!
@@j.j.sgarage1457 oh yeah, it weighed like two bricks in an awkward angle but was simple to replace. Thanks for the video
Great video!!
Thanks for watching!
How did you connect the wire’s lol
Great vid , but happy for ff
Excellent job. 👍💖
Thank you!
Your starter still doing ok
Yes it is. No issues at all!
Bro. My Elco almost started on fire. I have a fringed wire that connects to starter. My question is where do them set of wires originate from? On mine there is a metal piece that bolts to side of block. The set of wires comes from this. I wana call it a harness, but what harness? How can I get to it to rewire the torn wire from shortin out n causin a fire. Wires on starter are fine its all the way back where wires originate. What am I describing? Lol Im lookin through manuals n nothing covers it exactly. Common sense tells me ill have to replace that whole harness but how do they come out. Sorry for my messy question lol thanks though. ✌ nice elco!
Sorry for the late reply. I hope you figured it out. Id replace the harness or open the harness up and find the burned wire and replace that but normally when that happens it creates more damage than it’s worth fixing so might as well replace it.
I'm replacing mine now on '86 elco
I took the brake line bracket and censor out cause my starter wouldn't budge any/didn't fall out like yours
Very helpful bro thanks
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching!
Brother is this El Camino is 6.47L Engine?
Bro!! I have a 79 Monte Carlo. I’m wondering what caused you to change your starter. No crank? My fuel pump is working but my damn car won’t even crank 😒
Yes pretty much, click but no crank then nothing at all. You can try hitting the starter with a mallet while someone turns the key if it tries to turn over you have a dead starter for sure. 60% of the time it works every time Haha! Good luck to ya
@@j.j.sgarage1457 60% of the time it works all of time 😂😂 That’s some funny shit 😂😂😂😂 Much appreciated brother 💯 I’ll give you an update.
So you remove those 2 bolts holding it up first then remove the other bolts in back that are hard to get to?
Thats what i did. But w/e works for you. It all has to come off.
Thanks for the video bro. Hope this gets my Monte Carlo started
I hope it worked out for you!
Question. Was it not rotating when you were trying to start it? Cause I believe I have the same issue with mine
right! loud click but no rotation.
should have jacked it up way hier hommy lol
Man I hate them heavy ass starter... I replace 2 of them on my regal back to back.. Not a fun place to be in with your arms lol
Those starters are bulky, but not heavy. Lol
Tilt the terminal end up and twist the starter, then you can slide it right out.
Those starters are bulky, but not heavy. If you tilt the post terminals up and theenye
👍🏽
he;a oil leak right!
Looks easier than an LQ25
At least 100 times easier 😂
that shim should be clean that is the ground to the starter
