@@d.c.6065 I'd reckon he got it (via talking to them or BF) to help them promote it, and create a bunch of content to help Steam newcomers. As he has a very serious and solid video library of concise and effective tutorial content for the product... Call him an 'ambassador'... ;D
I have been playing this game and the other games in this series for over 2 decades now and this is an excellent video intro to the game. I would make only one, small point regarding the wounded man mentioned @8:45 The "Combat Mission" games will award points based upon casualties and the chance of a wounded soldier becoming a KIA rather than a WIA is significantly higher if they are NOT given aid. It is not always a good idea to do so in the line of fire of the enemy; just saying it does make a difference (even in one-off engagements).
@@usuallyhapless9481 well, either way there always well made and good to watch. It'd be good if some people at Battlefront see this series, and perhaps think about hiring you to make some tutorial videos. I know that at least one other youtuber has made tutorial videos for a games company ('Many a True Nerd' for Paradox), maybe Battlefront could ask you to do something similar.
Awesome video! Your tutorial videos taught me a lot about this game. Not only how to play, but just how intricate and complex this unsuspecting little game can be. And for anyone that is interested, Steam has these games on sale. Like $23 US. I just bought Combat Mission: Black Sea last night.
yet again another great vid that does a better job at explaining the CMx2 engine better than battlefront would. It would be interesting to see how well CMSF 2 will be received by steam users, since now it will be openly and directly compared with other tactical sims.
Nice video! As the commando from C&C would say: "Keep 'em coming!" I have a request for a C2 tutorial, as I'm still pretty in the dark about how that exactly works and what the benefits of being in C2 link are.
Another brilliant video. Hoping that you move on to showing how to conduct an assault of an enemy position, base of fire etc. It's a really interesting point that you raise about the micro-terrain. People all too often focus on sticking to hedge rows and clumping squads together etc not realising that bullets don't get stopped by twigs.
just found yer channel first vid i watch was you as the syrians fighting your pal as the dutch . bought the game tonight will be playing tomomrrow and goona wastch all your vids on it :) and also ive subbed and belled
Would be cool if they would implement some sort of mechanic in to the campaigns where failing to buddy aid a casualty that results in him dying causes that unit to carry a slight morale debuff in to the next mission.
you said cuz one of the team got shot the others were cowering, 5:31 This can also infuriate a fellow soldier but i don't think this mechanic exists in the game right? Who am i too say maybe sever mechanics should of been added instead one just cowering you know add different one to add to the realism
i mean when you think about it the ai in games like this is making mostly rational and sound decisions but the player however is basicaly god and can do god knows what
Nice vid, Hapless! I wonder, how would have the firefight developed if you controled the defender syrian section. I did some tests by myself (in ww2 themed CM games however) and concluded that the section/platoon under my command wins nearly all the time, whatever army i'm in control. What are you thoughts about it? The AI is weak in concentrating firepower or what?
Yeah, the AI is no real match for a human opponent (which is good- no Skynet!). It mostly relies on the TacAI to select targets and choose when to engage, so here it opened up with the RPD at 500m, then it would engage with the RPG and AKMs at about 300m. A human player ordering it to engage at 500m would get those weapons going and an RPG landing in the US squad would really ruin their day.
Might get it when it releases on steam have been messing with the demo a bit hope it gets some UI reworks and some form of right click orders radial or move menu.
Not sure a UI re-work is on the table, but you can press spacebar to bring up a little orders menu at the mouse instead of using the bottom right panel, if that's any help.
@@zyhgar25 i feel how much a game is worth maybe 50 percent how much effort is put into it, this game although kinda fun doesn't have a ton of effort into it
Can you tell me the point of buddy aid? I under stand it in quick battles but does it do anything in Campaign like make the soldier come back later or no.
It doesn't do much. Soldiers incapacitated in a campaign are out of the fight and probably headed to hospital for some time, assuming they survive. Replacements do come in during campaigns, but in set percentages and at set times chosen by the campaign designer. So if you buddy aid some troops and it looks like they come back in the next mission, it's just coincidence.
That's exactly what commanders in the field should say, when one of their troops is in shock. Yell on the radio "! I'M UNABLE TO GIVE YOU COVERING FIRE, MY MACHINEGUNNER IS HAVING AN INSIGNIFICANT EMOTIONAL EVENT!".
Another great video Hapless! I see you are advancing "one square at a time" with the A team. I'm guessing you are issuing some pause command at each square. Is this so they can spot for new targets at every opportunity or just so that the end of the turn won't caught them in the middle of a run? Maybe both? What are your thoughts on the game coming to Steam? I think it's great and hope it works out so more games will be published there.
Yes, I was going forward a square and pausing for either 5 or 10 seconds. The concept is the old "I'm up, he sees me, I'm down" to hopefully minimise pixeltruppen exposure. They can do some spotting and take some pot shots too. I think CM coming to Steam is going to be good for the game in general. There's obviously going to be a lot more exposure, more sales and hopefully Battlefront can re-invest that in the game.
I really wish NATO infantry doctrine could be properly modeled in game engines. Battle drill 1 & 2 are simple to teach and execute in real life, but quite hard to force a computer to do effectively.
What in particular do you mean? Give me a short summary please of what you're looking for the game to do. Are you talking airland battle? The Russians have it easy. They just have to do that big battalion March thing with BMPs and tanks and infantry. I'm really not sure what a classic NATO infantry doctrine is
Anyone knows if this game is easy to learn for new players? I recently got Steel Division and Wargame: Red Dragon and micro managing in these games are very intense.
Gameplay here is almost the opposite of micromanagement, im learning it myself atm, and it is not that difficult if youre patient enough (and watch hapless' videos). The game also punishes mistakes hard, as in real battles, but thats how you learn, right?
if you've bought CMSF2 from Battlefront already, there's a system for getting a Steam key: community.battlefront.com/topic/137434-how-to-get-your-cmsf2-game-on-steam/ It's not so much a transfer as making the game free on Steam if you already own it. Not in the commerically available games. You can stitch one together by saving every turn, recording them and putting them together in another program but... that's not great.
