Cheap cola reminds me of my nan. My nan always had a bottle of cheap cola for when her grandkids came over to visit. My mum only ever allowed us to have pop at Christmas off the milkman (glass bottles of Corona) so it was a treat having the cola at my nans. It was always flat because it would be opened for weeks sometimes but I still liked it.
Yep, my nan got Corona bottles of pop from the milkman, that she kept in her freezing cold coal cellar. Is it me or did it seen to stay fizzier in glass bottles?
Great review, try Aldi lemonade. I am a convert, better than Schweppes or R Whites 👌. Mem: was 29p 6 months ago running around 42p now. Still excellent value.
They haven't caught up. It's just diet coke is really bad. Don't get me wrong they're not as bad now as they used to be but theyre still not very good.
@@watchoutwatchesuk cheal cola 2 litre was made by coca cola back in the 90s, i remember reading the label and asking my mum whys it not taste the same
Theres an easy way to keep carbonation in cola, or any fizzy drink, including beer. It's all to do with how the drink is poured into the glass. Hold the glass close to the bottle top and tilt to towards the bottle. Then, pour the drink gently out so that it hits the inside of the glass, first, not the liquid that's already inside. Keep doing this until you have enough liquid in the glass. It means you don't get a "head" on the drink, but that's a small price to pay for more carbonation in the fluid.
I can't believe people give a thumbs down coz they don't like the food!! That's ridiculous. I give a thumbs up, even for your baked bean videos!! Wowzers. Kx

The price difference comes from the cost of carbonation. CO2 gas is astronomical in price. The syrup used will be similar in taste but after the basic one has been sat in your alcohol drink for a while I would imagine you'd notice the difference more.
I find the problem with the cheaper drinks is if your not drinking the whole bottle pretty quick the whole bottle goes flat pretty fast. Only exception to the rules that I've found is sainsbury own brand cola which I prefer than normal and it keeps its fizz abit better.
Great review, Gareth. Surprising, eh ? Enjoy a glass of Chilled Diet Coke myself, always have. Only difference is I buy the cans rather than the bottles as the Coke goes flat easily in the bottles. Cheers, Gareth and thank you 👍😉
I remember the blindfolded one 😂 20p for drain cleaner sounds good! I can't and won't have anything with artificial sweeteners. Good review though, Gaz.
you nailed it in your aldi soup video. cheap versions have come on leaps and bounds in the last few years. Quality wise the gap is closing but the price isn't. can't understand how these big companies still get away with charging high prices. they must be running scared at the moment!!
I stopped drinking fizzy drinks about 4 years ago and would go for the value ranges when I did. I preferred lemonade over coke. Somebody once tested the Tesco value cola to clean their toilet with and said it did a good job cleaning their loo.
The 23p diet lemonade from Aldi is just as good as any branded stuff, and way better than the "top 4" supermarkets value range. But for me if a pop is cold and wet, it tastes fine and has way less sugar.
Is there some government regulations and extra fee for sugary drinks you’re paying? (I’m in Canada to clarify). That seems a very very high price for real Diet Coke.
The bubbles on the glass isnt dirt, its caused by the surface having imperfections like tiny scratches. If the glass is wet, it wont bubble up as much as well.
With most of us turning to more shop own brands the big boys are going to have to cut their inflated prices or go under. And a lot of these items you just cannot tell apart.

Hi Gareth. The Coke price is extortion. Both brands contain 900 series artificial sweeteners (phenylalanine) phenalnutrics which are really bad for you and can give you the 'RUNS' if consumed in large amounts. I have a Sodastream to make my own fizzies as I need them. I buy the sugar free syrups (no artificial sweeteners) and add Stevia if needed. Much safer. I have looked into maybes getting a Sodastream but having done a bit of maths worked out it would cost more than just going to the supermarket and buying the store's own cheap brand. By the time you brought the gas and the syrup you spent way more. Having just looked at the website they only sell Pepsi now as a cola, they used to sell non branded cola syrup a few months or a year ago. Talking £40 for gas and 6 bottles of Pepsi Max cola syrup. Still just buying from a shop is probably cheaper.
@@daviniarobbins9298 Yes it's not any cheaper than store bought, but you have more control over the flavour delivery and less sugar. Also you can pump soda water for spirits without the added sodium. Try buying the syrups online for more variety and check forums for recipes.
@@daviniarobbins9298 Find some place where they do demo's and try it for yourself. I bought mine online as a superseded model and paid half price. Also bought spare bottles L/S on sale. You don't have to pay full price for anything if you spend a little time researching. They also turn up at OP shops and car boot sales.
Would love to see you compare diet lemonade. I go to Tesco and get the Stockwell for 23p and their Tesco own brand one is 45p. The maybe add Schweppes as they're a brand and costs £1.65. I haven't had it for ages so don't remember the taste. I personally think there's quite a big difference in taste with the cheap ones and the 22p to pay extra is worth it. Depends on how much lemonade you drink lol you wouldn't have to do Tesco, I think Asda do a very similar thing.
Hi ya. Funny how it's a psychological thing isn't it? If you had the essential range one and one from burger King or somewhere, would there be a difference? I watched a video where they did an essential item and a leading brand....tried the cheap one first , then said it wasn't as good. Told them next time, do the cheap one first and they did....just as good as the leading brand. Amazing how people convince themselves something is horrible because of the label. I have the essential lemonade. Brilliant for mixing cordials . Thanks for the review 🙂
Just to say Gareth this was an "instaclick" for me, and my mum loved it too. We'll definitely pick up a bottle to do a taste test of our own! Got two suggestions for you product wise... 1) Aldi do in their Vive juice range Fanta and Lilt "dupes", I feel the "Fake Fanta" tastes better and at a fraction of the cost too! Second, do a Asda-Morrisons-Sainsburys create your own pizza comparison for quality and price (just stick to a generic pepperoni for ease of comparison). Keep up the good work, mate!
I was thinking the same caffeine doesn't agree with me, used to enjoy the asda caffeine free cola in cans not seen it in ages makes me wonder if they switch it into these bottles as it wasn't selling much. Will have to give it a try.

@@daviniarobbins9298 Yes it's not any cheaper than store bought, but you have more control over the flavour delivery and less sugar. Also you can pump soda water for spirits without the added sodium. Try buying the syrups online for more variety and check forums for recipes.
@@johndavis7944 Also the actually soda stream machine isn't cheap. My grand parents had one back in the 1980s and the drinks tasted awful.
The maybe add
Schweppes as they're a brand and costs £1.65. I haven't had it for ages so don't remember the taste. I personally think there's quite a big difference in taste with the cheap ones and the 22p to pay extra is worth it. Depends on how much lemonade you drink lol you wouldn't have to do Tesco, I think Asda do a very similar thing.
Thank you
Its great that the cheaper alternative is still good, such a lot of money saved .
I pay a fortune for caffeine free fizzy. I am definitely going to try this. Thank you for reviewing
I was thinking the same caffeine doesn't agree with me, used to enjoy the asda caffeine free cola in cans not seen it in ages makes me wonder if they switch it into these bottles as it wasn't selling much. Will have to give it a try.
Hi Gareth a great review and I'll give it a go, a couple of weeks ago i tried tesco's stockwell brand for 20p and it was awful and i brought 10 bottles of it 🤣but i did drink it all as i don't waste anything 🍻🙏
cheers Sean
Absolutely Bloody awful stuff isn't it! tastes like water with some sweeteners added that's about it
@@bobmarley2140 it is very bad 🤣
I requested this in the coke video
Cheers for doing it
