We cannot logically know who was the LONGEST, because it is not possible that we know of them all. @@billsmlth5381 What crack are you on? Also, you should probably learn by now that any statistic can be manipulated. If your society puts more effort into arresting black people over white people, guess what, that'll inflate the numbers of black arrests vs white arrests. If your society convict more black people than you do white people, guess what, that'll inflate the numbers of black convictions vs white convictions. If you're out looking for a particular type of person (black vs white) to commit a crime, well then, it's only natural that you'll be missing all the others (e.g. a long while back I remember watching a video showing racial profiling simulated, with employees following black people, but totally missing and not seeing the white people stealing because they were so focused on the black customers). Statistics are numbers capturing a detail in a very specific moment in time. Without context for how those numbers were achieved, where it derived, or what factors went into the situations creating these numbers, it's meaningless. It is still useful information but it is not God, it is not all-knowing, or all-seeing and cannot represent the totality of our lives. Just remember that. Stats only tell us a very, very small part of the story. The manipulation is not always intentional. There's a lot of unintentional bias in statistics because we are flawed human beings.

As sad as it is, he's right. Look at the people who've been put to death and later found to be innocent. Or those that died in prison before they could be cleared. Then you've got others who spend decades of their lives in prison and are in states that have caps on how someone can be compensated. For example, here's a story of a man named Rickey Jackson that was cleared after nearly 3 decades. He's in Oklahoma, which only allows up to 175k in compensation

The guy was still in prison for 39 years. I still support the death penalty and if anything know we need to make the system cheaper and more efficient.
I am not going to pretend like a system created by man will be perfect. But we are still accountable to uphold the law and punish those who break them. We know there are risks but that is why we constantly try to make it better.
I still support war to protect Western interests and general liberalism/anti-totalitarianism even knowing that innocent civilian casualties usually end up being a victim.
The world sucks, we do our best to get by and normally we do not go out of our way to be cruel. If it means we execute horrendous people with a margin of error in wrongful conviction I say it is a tradeoff I personally am willing to accept, at least for now.

You are a remarkably strong person to have survived that torture. I cant and wont even try to relate and compare what you went through to the torture that was imposed on me by the Australian authorities some fifty years ago.
