I bought the course plus the pro packs in December 2020. I really started the course in Jan. 2021 after the holidays. I'm still on volume 1 learning breath control and vowel modifications using the dudes exercises. I'm thrilled to report my vocal range is increasing (my main goal) and I'm singing songs I could never sing before because my throat locked up and I wasn't able to transition into head voice to sing the high notes in the chorus of most pop songs. I had many many vocal coaches in the late 70s and 80s, not one of them could help me. My voice range is a high baritone. I am so impressed with your singing course! The forum is a great resource for finding help with questions and support from other members. The price for Ken's course is a mere fraction of all the money I spent/wasted in the past on other vocal coaches. I never thought to ask them if they could sing. lol Thanks so much Ken for creating this course! I wish you had this available back in the day. Judy K

2:33 Oh my goodness! I've seen so many vocal coaches who sounded to me like they couldn't actually sing well, but I thought it *must* be me just not understanding what good is, because how could they be coaches if they weren't good? It made me doubt my own ability and worry about "ruining" my voice by following their advice. Thank you so much for pointing out the truth and putting my mind at ease! I'm confident that following *your* lessons will improve my skill level.

I can't wait to try this. I'm a songwriter who has been held back with my lack of confidence in my singing voice. I've had a few bad experiences with performing in the past but I just realized that I don't want to die with all those songs inside my heart. I want to try and get better. This seems like a good place to start. 🍀

I'm glad that I watched this video. I teach vocals, too and this is a great reference for teaching Women and Girls how to sing using their anatomy versus mine. I can sing certain songs by Women such as Mary J. Blige, Ella Fitzgerald, T-Boz, Joan Jett, Angelo Gassow and Ann Wilson but I'm still a Guy, so I have to understand the physiology of the Female Voice. Thanks Ken, you are absolutely amazing.

I'm a good singer and screamer, but regularly get on my limits (especially clenching my throat with days of headache after). And then I fall down a RUclips-hole and end up confused. You're an awesome singer, veeery sympathetic, positive, motivating and convinced me, that you and I get my singing on the next level. With the correct technique from the get-go and your know-how. I'm gonna buy your course. I think the money is worth my vocal health. See you there! Thanks, Ken!

About 4 years ago I started practicing singing every other day and it strengthened my voice greatly. Even my speaking voice sounds better. I practice singing different types of music to strengthen in different ranges - R&B, Country, Blues, Latin, Contemporary Folk. I try to accompany myself on guitar.

I didn't flip and I'm a guy lol. I been doing your course for a month straight and man I improved drastically. It all starts to come together once you get the hang of things. I been practicing about 2 hours a day 6 days a week. I had to take 2 days off from a cold but I did straw phonation exercises and some inner smile practice in the mean time. My voice got even stronger when I came back from rest. I only sing for fun but I really want to get to a professional level which is why I am taking this seriously. I don't even care about making money or fame. I'm just doing this cause I enjoy it. I also figured out the placement issues I as having. I enjoy your videos Ken you are cool dude. I wish my coach would have told me why we did exercises. I thought they where just silly.

You make a lot of good points . That remind me of the issues I encountered when I first began taking lessons back in September of 2002 . After being in so many Extreme Heavy Metal bands and old school Hardcore bands . I'm able to use the eases in a clean voice . Have chest tone , falsetto and mixed voice . Stretched from a a natural high bass , midrange , upper midrange , to high end shrieking . The problem being is if I switch to a clean style of singing I can't seem to transfer the same notation . Usually always sound a bit sharp . I have recorded many different all vocal covers on my channel of my voice . People get the impressions that I'm constrictingy my voice . Because it's done on a smart phone through the speaker recorder . I'm extremely loud but folks mistake compression for constriction . I have very loud call register when it comes to shouting . In that chest tone call register I can belt out an A over middle c. However becoming a good melodic singer has always eluded me . No matter what . I don't understand how I can use extreme vocal distortion and hit the right notes but cants transfer that to a Scorpions or David Coverdale style of singing . People always tell me to keep doing the extreme Heavy Metal style and forget the melodic singing because " I'm horrible " . I won't give up but after a year I still sound like day 1 . The funny thing is I've been using the same vocal eases you're using right here for 19 years 😂 . I know there's a way I can hack the Def Leppard Scorpions style of singing just may take a lot more time .

Honestly, wow...thank you. I found your channel a few days ago and i'm binging your videos and actually putting all your advice and exercises into practice. I have just started so obviously I can't yet tell you if 've improved but i sure will keep you posted! I've taken signing classes for three years when i was younger (around 13-16) but i quit because of a series of factors. As a child exposed to pop music with mainly sopranos I felt uncomfortable being a contralto with a full, powerful chest voice. Stupidly, at 13 i despised my voice and longed for a softer, higher one. I would mainly sing songs sung by males or had to lower all the other ones and as a kid that felt humiliating. Other than that I struggled a lot with my breath control and kept straining here and there and had no idea how to relax and just let my voice flow. My sining teacher once said "you sing as if you were doing sit ups", he meant well but that stuck with me and after a while i chose to quit. Im 20 now and i'm an actress, which I found to be my ultimate passion after dropping singing. However, the breath problem clearly resurfaced in my acting and I am now forced to tackle it all over again. Also, I came back to singing in the meantime as I play piano and write songs but although i came to appreciate (on good days) my deep, powerful voice, i'm still insecure and frustrated that I seem to not know how to relax. I feel like i'm really truly cutting myself short and stifling my potential (also literally as i run out of breath haha) reason why i've come back to singing.
Finding your channel has been an epiphany. Sorry for rambling, just wanted to share with you my singing journey and issues and let you know that i'm truly grateful for your efforts. I will persevere!

Ken, how important it is to develop the pharyngeal voice? I have heard that it is crucial to do the mix voice like gears in a car.

    • @kentamplin
      @kentamplin  3 года назад +3

"Pharyngeal Voice" is just smoke and mirrors talk. You have a laryngeo pharynx, a nasopharynx, and an oropharynx. Most coaches who teach "singing pharyngeally" are suggesting that you sing very nasally. NAY, NAY, NAY, Make it sound as ugly as you can. Yes, that's it. The uglier it sounds, the better you are singing pharyngeally. I don't teach that nonsense. I teach open throat, and sometimes singing into "the mask" but mostly resonating in the back of the throat. You do need to vary the tone to reduce the girth of the sound as you ascend to higher notes. It's all in my course. KenTamplinVocalAcademy.com/

@@kentamplin I bought your singing course and im doing great. Actually I am recording my own songs and I wish you could hear it. The thing is in spanish. Anyway, the reason for my question is that I got a course long ago that emphasizes pharyngeal as a way to grow the voice. But, your explanation makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the tip.

Ken, I've just recently found your channel and love it.
I have a question for you.
I'm (now) 65 and have been playing the guitar and singing since 1974 when I bought a CSNY chord book and learned. I sing a lot of John Prine, Bonnie Rait, Linda Ronstadt,...stuff like that.
I've lost a lot of my range. Is that just normal as we age (For instance I see Stevie Nicks has lost a lot of her range...still love her), or can we do anything to keep or at least help our range as we age?

    • @kentamplin

Thank you, Ken. I've been enjoying your videos! 💕

Mr. Tamplin please tell me honestly is it possible to achieve some success in signing if I started to learn to sing at the age of 35. Must be said I used to study to play the piano for 6 years and still can play it. I was also told that I have some sort of talent but I wanna be real if there is a chance. music is a big part of my life, I keep listening and listening to all types of music and one moment I realized that I also wanna make something beautiful with my voice not just listening to other singers. my goal is to be able to sing well so in the future I can try to write my own songs, and I wanna learn different styles. Hope you will respond 🙏
